I looked at Jeffs thats were I got the idea. He just kinda reamed the tube out. I was going to ask him how he did it. I think he only has a computer at work though.:waah:

Re: Daverods 52

Dave,
I took the column to a buddy's and turned it on his lathe. I was going to take it to an muffler shop, but it was on a Sunday and nobody was open. Thank goodness friends can't close. As a last resort, you could probably go very carefully with a die grinder. It's kinda hilbilly, but far within the scope of, "something I'd do". As for joints:smoke:, I used the universal joint from a c10 van. I remember it being cheap, but can't remember how much. I think I spent like $40 bucks on the whole steering solution.

Hope that helped,
Jeff

im in the same thought process for my project. About the same place you are. The freezer won't help much for a 1/16. Exhaust flaring sounds pretty good. I have seen someone on here score it in several places, then drive the bearing in, swelling the column shaft in the process. Looked like that would work as well. A search should help you find those pics.

I have seen cheap muffler pipe flare tools at Schucks, Orielies, Auto R us or what ever they are called this week. Never used one so do not know how well they work.

Hey on your a-arm header issue, a set of speedway tubular arms would clear.. they are ~45 dollars an arm

Put my bearing in the column. Hooked up my steering. I just put 4 slits the column tube, put the bearing in and welded it up.:ito:

I'll save it for you. I don't know how good it is. When I bought the truck it did'nt have an engine. I'll fill it up and see how it is. It looks good.
