That radiator support looks great to me. I was thinking about hitting mine with por-15 I may just check into powder coat too. I bet it's out of my budget though.

What did you end up doing on your tranny/cab interference?

POR 15 would probably work great. I just had a friend that owed me a favor and got some things powdercoated.

I have tried several things on the clearance issue, but not sure if I am happy yet. I have worked it enough that I lowered the rear of the tranny 1/4" and the tranny has cleared the floor but it is close. I think if I was doing everything over I would put a high hump cover in. Just something to think about. Also something else to consider is where the firewall meets the tranny cover on the engine side. If your motor is set to far back the seam will hit the tranny. If you have a buddy or two you might want to set the cab on the frame for a test fit before you go to far. Not saying you haven't thought of this yourself just wanted to make a suggestion.

Rex, any chance you took any shots of where your tranny is too close to the cab? I really don't want to make mine a high hump if I can avoid it.

Funny my trans clears with pretty much the same mounts. I am using a TH350 trans mount, wonder if its shorter..

My Grandfather was not a gearhead, as a matter of fact he thought I might have a few screws loose for taking a truck that actually ran, completely apart, to fix it up.

But he was a good man.

A faithful man of God who led with his actions and not just his words, He always had a kind word and was quick with a smile. Who was always happy to see me come and always hated to see me leave. I was constantly amazed how a man of his size could always express such gentleness and kindness.

He is gone now and we are poorer for it.

Although he was sick at the end, he never suffered and although, I would never wish him back from the glorious place he is now, I will miss him dearly till I see him again.

No goodbyes Poppy... only see you later. Enjoy your rest, we will all be together before you know it.

Thanks for the kind words guys I appreciate it. Been a crazy couple months, first my Grandfather passes away, then we tore of our broken vinyl siding (due to hail damage) and put on fiber cement siding. Then due to insurance reason I had to get my entire house painted by June 3rd or they cancel... due to high winds I painted the whole house with a brush and roller. Geez! Needless to say I have been somewhat pre-occupied.

Now! Didn't I have a build thread laying around here somewhere?!?




I love the look of the original steering wheel but it is just to big, I could not bring myself to go aftermarket even though I found several that were nice, for me I wanted to try to get the original to work if I could.

How hard could it be right?...

May be easy for alot of people here because ya know...they have talent but for me it was not alot of fun. lol

I was going for 15" but cut too much off, I had a hard time getting it back to perfectly round, so I cut it into two halves, took a 15" ralley rim then bent and shaped both sides until they fit into a it. Came out to about to 14.5"

Then I welded them together and fit the spokes and welded them also. Then I used a filler called PC-7A and PC-7B, when you combine them they harden to a sandable fill.

Then I shape and sanded... alot. When I got done with that I shaped and sanded some more. Then I used regular bondo to fill some small chips and shaped and sanded that.

Now I am going to primer and wet sand to see how it looks before trying to paint it.

That would work but with my mounts she is as low as I can get it. I still have not figured out what to do about it yet.

From your discription of the lack 'o talent wheel fix I was expecting some boogered up weld job with a mix of black electrical tape and duct tape covering it up, and calling it that 'old skool' look. But it turned out pretty damn good according to what I saw in the pics. A little paint and rubbing it out will make it a very nice wheel. Good job.

Thanks! I feel the same way about the orginal wheel, I just could not find anything else I liked better. BTW your truck is looking great!

That would definatley work... I already have my carpet in and fatmat laid down, so it will take effort and $$$ to go that route, but in the end it may be the only option.

I should have test fit the tranny but it never occured to me it would not fit until it was too late.:waah:

Hey Rex, on your wrangler tank.. does your fuel gauge work fine with it? are you just using the pressure and return with the others blocked off? Thanks
