here are pictures of how to check it .
remember the first thing to do is make shore the two u joints are lined up ! I lay the driveshaft on a flat surface to check this . then do like in picture #1 first check to see that the space between the drive shaft and the square are even all the way down . then check it from the other side also. then check it like picture # 2 and #3 to see that the end cap looks spaced even when checked from both sides . if it looks even all 4 ways then make 1 tack weld and check it all 4 ways again . in picture #2 the square was not against the driveshaft like it should be I couldn't hold the square and take the picture at the same time. if it is good make a second tack weld on the other side . check it again to make shore it didn't move and if its all good then finish welding it. try to make your weld even size all the way around. if you get a fat spot in your weld then grind that spot to make it similar size to the rest of the weld. |

Ok thanks for the pics.
Today I brought my yokes to school and pressed the ujoint out. It turns out there was plastic injected into the little holes in the yoke to hold the ujoint in so I heated it with a torch to melt it out then I pressed it out. I'm leaving to Maui today for a week but I'll be sure to post when I return. |

Saw this today at a beach in Maui. 1966 custom camper (badges removed when painted) with a 283 3 on the tree original interior and original bed wood, owned by a surfer.

Saw this one in Maui last night. Not a 60 to 66 but still cool. Either a 55 or 56. Surfboards on the bed read " gas monkey tattoos". It seems like it's been on the island for a while, You can't tell by the pictures but it has a ton of rust. I think they just use it as advertising because it looks like it hasn't been moved in a while.

Another cool car in Maui. This is probably the nicest one on the island. 65 Nova with a 230, original colour, in showroom condition.

Just got back this morning and got busy. Finished off the sectioning of the front fender but then found some more rust in the lip.
Here it is cut out |

Today I cut the driveshaft down to exactly the corect length by installing it and slipping the yoke in the transmission and pulling it out about 3/4'' then making a mark, for the cut I found a piece of tubing slightly larger with a straight edge and used it as a fence to cut against. Checked with the square and levels many times and the cut is 100% straight |
