Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
I don't know much of anything. I've had that picture a while. I believe it is factory-built and is Russian. I'd have to look for the brand name. It's three letters

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Saw so many of these old trucks growing up being 56 now, were just trucks doing their job then but now they just seem so much cooler and with style.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
I get a lot of nostalgia out of the early 4wds from visions of my youth. They weren't so common back and were bought out of need for the utility. I think it's cool all the attachments that were made using the truck as a mobile power plant, same as tractors. Things like 3pt hitches and PTO driven apparatus.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
I just realized I goofed..that truck is the one I bought for a donor...his is identical except his is short wheelbase and red where that one is blue...although the red is long gone....and yes..its been in the family since 1959 or 60..if his memory is correct...
when dad bought his farm he needed a truck so he went to a farm auction that had 3 of these IH's for sale...he bid on all 3 winning none...he had x amount of dollars to spend and just lost out...as he was leaving a guy followed him to the parking lot and wanted to know if he still wanted one...he said well yeah thats why I was bidding..turns out this guy bought 2 of the 3 and only wanted 1...so he made a deal with dad and dad brought the old truck home...its been in the family ever since... .affectionately called "Columbus" by my mom...because she said the truck was so old it looked like it came over on the boat with Columbus. .. |

Wouldn't that be handy. It's short, but heavier with bigger dump body that a light duty about same wheelbase. Tougher drivetrain for bigger snow, too. Even the flow frame is tucked up close. I'd own it!

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Here is a 1977 Ford F-250 4x4 that I used to own. It started out life as a Fire truck with a utility box on the back. Later the Dept. decided to purchase an aftermarket 8' box, and repainted it Black over Red to match some other engines. I bought it in 2001 with 13k miles on it, however it had been overheated and had 2 cracked heads on the 400M engine. It also still had 16.5" split rims. So I sourced 2 good heads, and put new rims and tires on it. I enjoyed it for a time, kept the miles low, and then sold it. It was cool but just wasn't a GM.

I saw this at the vintage races in Watkins Glenn back in Sept. It is a tow truck that has a rolling flat bed.
|
Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
That's a nice F250. It's interesting how they did the black on the cowl and on the back it doesn't go down to bed. I guess it's how the dept. painted the fleet
What type of tow truck? Rolling bed? More info! |

All of our trucks are black over red "Chicago style" now. The Chief at the time the High-boy was purchased was on a safety yellow kick. The aftermarket box was very flimsy, and the tailgate was not strong either. Greg |

'56 Willys, Super Hurricane, all stock with Warn overdrive. Lined up for the 4th of July parade. Remember it was right at 100° that day. Was my daily driver for years, always ran no matter how cold (even 25° below) heater worked good too. Don't know why I sold it. One of the few pics I have of it. It's a shame I never thought to take any. The older kid just graduated from Montana State as a mechanical engineer, young kid on the fender just graduated infantry training at Ft. Benning. No idea where my youngest son was, he's still hard to keep track of!

I saw this fine '69 W200 crewcab the other day at the locker plant. We were in between snows with some warmer weather. It had drizzled on day, which I doubt washed away much salt. So many people new to the old vehicles that never pwned anything new long enough or drove anything old to understand how these things rust out so easily. I had a '69 W200 that was rusted out in '77 when I bought it.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Nice W200! A friend of mine that lives in Oregon found a 2wd version of this a couple of months ago and he's trying to get it purchased.
|
Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
A friend of mine has had a W200 for about 20 years, plows his driveway with it in the winter and that's it, just sits, so ugly but then so cool.

Cool Power Wagon!!
|
Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
This one has those Dualmatic hubs and the wagon wheels are like Jackmans, spokes to the rim. That truck did not spend it's life here. I had my '69 W200 and it was rare around here 30+ years ago. I remember there was one other that I knew of. And when I totalled mine and sold for parts it was that guy who responded to the ad and bought it.
I missed the Willys posted. Very cool. Always wanted one of those. |

Speaking of my old Power Wagon. I'm sure pictures are in this thread but I doubt many will be looking through a second time (or remember by the time they get this far). I bought ths truck in '77. Lift kits were a new thing and no one made anything for pre-72 Dodges. We arched the springs on an anvil for the front. Made blocks for the rear out of cut up and welded together spring stock. 36" monster Mudders had come out, but Armstrong had just started making 37/14.50 Extra Tractions (same pattern as Rhinos) and I ordered those from Dick Cepek. It turns out they were listed before they had been produced and I ended up waiting from Sept till May on them

Ran across these pictures the other day (slow day at work) Not "Other makes" but very different with right hand drive and obviously British design influences.
Chevrolet Canadian Military Pattern C8 / C15 / C30 / C60 No.13 cab trucks. A couple of links and pictures. The last one is my favorite. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadi..._Pattern_truck https://www.trucksplanet.com/catalog/model.php?id=1336 |
