Today I made my lower bag plates and got them set up on my axle. I set my pinion at 3 degrees. I set a tool in the mill to cut the radius on my upright pieces and they fit great. I took some 5 1/2 stock and machined it down to 5 1/4 for my plates and got them welded up and tacked onto the axle.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
he's a self proclaimed " chevy guy" and this is his first ford. i found it for him this time last year for $200. i also supplied and built the 311 cid motor for it. it was the only way i could keep him off my a$$ about working on my truck at the shop. i figured if i got him something to work on he wouldnt bother me; it worked.:smoke:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Hey Scoti how do you quote like that with my pic? And my first suggestion would be to find a big back window cab! :) Just a lot of metal work on the inside, not that hard just very time consuming. Should have tried to find a junk cab to get the inner panel from. I will try and find the pics of the inside.http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1263412735

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I went and picked up my cab after having new floor sheet metal installed. There is still some body work to be done before it is ready for paint. We went ahead and set the cab on my frame. It has been eight years since I took it apart and I have almost forgot what it looks like with a cab. It was too late to get any pictures last night but will try to get some this weekend.

My plan was to get an 'inner' cab skin from the upper seam down to the area where it 'rolls' under adjacent the gas tank & to the doors each side. I figured splicing it together .250" below the OE upper seam to keep things from warping when welding it up. Since there are multiple ways of doing the job, I like to see if someone has done something different that allows for a 'better' (easier, more consistent) finished task. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
if you removed the entire rear panel like i did you can take off the inner from the spot welds. more work but looks factory. I drilled all the welds at the door and rear and the window. then removed the whole panel. you can see from my what it looks like when you removed the back.

I'm not sure what you were trying to say in bold?? |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
not sure why its in bold there?... its not on mine. i did it to remove the rear for my extended cab. if someone was goin to take the time to install the inner panel from another truck. i think it would make it ezer to remove.

I finished putting a steering knuckle back together and brake shoes on that side, then moved the truck to a spot where it'll be easier to do the other side.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Today I pulled the long bed off my truck got it loaded on a trailer to sell tomorrow. Sorry to see it go and for so cheap but I had no where to put it and needed to make way for my short step bed and tube back half. :metal:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I pulled the carrier out of the diff becuase I was going to swap in the carrirer from my 4x4 seeing it was a posi diff. I found out I have 3.08 gears in my truck and the 4x4 has 3.73 so I don't think the ring gear is going to swap on to it and work, so I put the carrier back in so I can bust the yolk nut loose so i can change the seal some day/.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I patched the front of the drivers side inner fender on my 66 today. No photos as the welds are snotacular! First welding I've did in 23 years.
I'm quite pleased with myself. :metal: |

tore out my old bedwood I was surprised at what actually holds the bed down. The bolts actually go through the wood to the frame. I'm afraid to over tighten the new bolts for fear of splitting the wood. Also see new wood in waiting :metal:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
So what`s your plans for coating the wood `62...?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
In the March 09 issue of Custom Classic Trucks there is a 50 Chevy. The guy used Boiled Linseed Oil on the planks which actually soaks into the pores of the wood and provides good protection and leaves a satin finish I'm not fond of the high gloss so if you happen to have that issue or look it up if it's good enough for his truck then I'll use it. Mark-K also has a write up about it. :truck:

Today I did a little bit of work to the backhalf. Then I threw it under my new bed and put the gas tank between the rails just to check it out. Looks so sick. I want it done!! Probably won't run a floor in the bed for a while just cuz I like to see my handy work. Then I dropped my old bed off to the new owner. I was happy to see when I pulled up a short bed Chevy with no bed. I was happy because for the price I sold it for I was scared it was going to get made into some sketchy trailer and not be used for what it was. He was going to make it a short bed and put it on. He had a pretty nice body shop and I think it was for a customer. He didn't need the tailgate and said I should have left it at home then I asked if I could pull it off and he said for 20 bucks lol. I left it. PICS!

We ran the wires for the back of the truck and installed the loom. I've been busy with a new job and haven't had any time to work on my truck. I had a good helper today ( my 10 year old son , the youngest ) he crawled up under the truck like he knew what he was doing. it does my heart good to see him so excited to help dad with the truck . looks like we have a gearhead in the house. I didn't get much done explaining what to do to him, but...if you have kids please get them involved in your build. there is alot of bad things to do as you grow up , but if they are into rodding it gives them a positive outlet for all that extra energy that they have. its also a good way to bond with them!!!! they grow up so fast! notice that the wire comes thru the bed for thru 41-48 tail lights that are mounted in the fenders
