Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
A couple updates:
Pics of the POR-15'd notch. I used cheapo foam brushes (one time use) and they shed so the finish is speckled but it's all covered and protected (recommend spending a couple more cents for the "quality" brushes if you go that route): http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1204585568 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1204585755 The summit drilled/slotted rotors started rusting from non-use so I pulled them off and gave them a light sanding/cleaning. I found that the holes and slots were gonna be a PITA keep from corroding so I chose to POR-15 them too  We'll see if it stays there. Might need the high temp stuff. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1204586119 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1204586119 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1204586119 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1204586119 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1204586119 ...and got the pass-side e-brake cable routed: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1204586583 |

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

Your gonna get surface rust on the disks no matter what if you don't drive it. But the moment you get on the brakes, it's all blown off.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
I painted my slots too. I hate dirty slots... or do I?

I agree on the rust too, but those holes and slots would not be cleaned by the pads. |

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
hey frizzle, I may have missed it, but what kind of hose are you using for those rear bags? Is that rubber hyraulic line?
|
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
It's the DOT air line (some type of poly I think) with a sheathing over it for extra protection.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
I made the template for the outer tub wall. Then I realized I didn't have any sheets large enough to do it in one piece. So I'll do those another day
This was just to get the rough radius so I wouldn't have a bunch of folds to deal with inside the tub. The installed tub radius is slightly tighter: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1205031870 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1205031870 Then I moved to the inner wall since I had the OG sections that could be fit: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1205031870 The blue line is roughly where the tub starts to roll over and the black line is where I cut according to the template. Because of this the edges required a little hammer/dolly work to flatten them: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1205031870 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1205031870 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1205031870 I'll add the lower section and outer wall after I pick up some larger sheets. But I'll get the other side this far first. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1205031870 |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
So how do your outer tubs attach to the body? Any pics, I may need ideas someday;)

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Very nice project. I have been reading this thread for the last 3 days. I do have to say I had the same idea for the tubs in my 64 burban. Im sure you will make sure the tubs are sealed good to the outside of the body, but I had some tubs installed on my 01 Jimmy and it leaked like hell when it rained because it wasn't sealed properly to the outside wall.
|
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
They will be walled in. Here's the template for the outers:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1205031870 When I cut the stock tubs out I left the lower/outer sections in place for something to weld to: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1197087585 I'll also shorten and install the braces from the top of the stockers: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1205031870 I'll post up more pics when I fully stitch them in. |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

Those tubs look great. How long do you think it'll be before paint?

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Thanks guys. I'm just a guy in a home garage with a little ambition  As far as paint... after I finish all the body mods, which could be a while ;)

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Looks great man! I will say that you have some vision!
|
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Are you going to paint it red like the photo in the middle of your build thread, or blue like the very first picture in the thread?

Still undecided on the paint. But I'm looking for a nice blue/green/grey for the main body. The top and bottom (below lower/side trim) will be white or light silver. FWIW my GF wants me to do red/white and I'm not beyond convincing... :o
I'd love to hear some suggestions if anyone has any. Just consider the fact that it WILL be two tone with a lighter top/bottom. Here's one of the colors I'm considering for the main body: |
