I have 5 gallons on mine , but I would want more if I didn't have a york. Its hard to say what the magic number is.

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build

Their normal kit uses (1) 5 gal tank. I have had this in the past with other builds and it worked ok but I only had 1 comp. I think with (2) comps and a 6 gal it will be fine. Keep in mind I am not building this to just sit in a parking lot and play with my air suspension.

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build

Well as you have seen I have not been able to make any progress on the Hoe but I am making progress on the funds for the Hoe! I have been working on XXL's truck allot in the last month or two and it is almost done then I can install the Accuair system before moving on to a 41 chevy truck build.

I will be replacing the lower section of my DropMember with the new V3.2 C4 tube version so once I get to the chassis stage it will tie in better. Then I might use the one I have now on another project that was given to me recently for free! Yep a mostly rust free 70 LWB, factory AC, PS,PB, Auto, 396 (now trash 350 with all acc.) and 3/4 ton running gear. I have to give back the rims, tires, turbo 400, carb, seat and stereo. All parts I will not be using anyways.

I am not sure what I will be doing with it but I have Ideas of a roadster blazer look. That way I will have one of each style (SWB, Tahoe and Blazer).

Here are a few pics.

It is all their except the compressor and mounts because this truck was a 396 from the factory and turns out that motor is now in my 67 SS 396 Chevelle, small world. But the rest will be removed and set aside until I list all the extra stuff in the for sale section.

Back in the shop!!!

Yes it is time to get the front bag mounts finished so I can install the full AccuAir system. Once the system is working and fully functional then it is back out in the cold while I do full build on a 41 Chevy pu for another customer. Then it will be time to pull the body off the Tahoe and get the chassis powder coated completely finish it up.

So today I pulled it in the shop and removed the front sheet metal to gain better access to the front suspension. I then removed the mock up bag lower mount and made the 2 final mount bases for both sides. I also got my lower bag discs cut and punched but that was it for the day. In the morning I will be doing some exhaust work for XXL on his radicle HHR SS and if time allows I will work a bit more in the Tahoe after that. Here are a few pics for tonight.

A little more progress. I hope to have the front bags all done by the next weekend and my new C4 tubular DropMember should be here maybe by Saturday. Nate said it should be ready middle of the week(let's see if that happens or not ) Luv ya Nate!

I finished most of the parts for the upper brackets but I think I want to add two more braces in the middle of my bag mount like the last pics show. They would be taller and longer with a similar hole pattern.

Does not look like tons of progress but I had about 6-8 hrs of just cutting, punching and getting it all set up to work properly. Next are the shock mounts and sway bar links then the AccuAir full set up:metal: Then once the body is off and the frame is mounted on the Jig I will weld it all up.

Aired out but I will have a bump stop that holds it about 1" higher to get rid of some ball joint binding I have now. I currently have 11" of travel.

Outstanding work. So you had to fab the upper/lower bag mounts. What does the C4DM usually use? Shockwaves?

Yep shock-waves or coil-overs. I do believe Nate is working on the same sort of set up I am doing but with his schedule I figured I would do my own. I went bags to get more lift, better options for shocks and I will also be running a sway bar that "currently" is not part of a C4DM;)

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build

I'm guessing you're going to incorporate the shock mount into the bottom bag plate? My mind had something similar designed when I asked Nate about setting mine up this way.

I haven't made much more effort but was thinking along the lines of a double shear mount similar to the GM truck lower arms. The standard DM set-up basically uses a GM car shock (Camaro, Chevelle, etc...). So in theory, I should be able to use a Bilstein for a later model 74-77 Camaro (different p/n because they're porky vs. earlier models) which is a pretty decent shock (good enough to be factory installed on the Vette chassis).

I look forward to seeing the results from another perspective.

Rokcrln 08-07-2009 06:41 AM

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build

Yes I had it all working on my mock up I built but just have not transfered it all over to finished parts. The shock sit behind the bag and I think I ended up with about a 7" travel shock. I will be running Q1-A's once it is all finished up so I have some tune-ability. The last pic in post #669 show a bit of the top mount behind the A-arm.

There are 2 threaded holes already @ the end of the control arm where the OE leaf was secured.

I was planning to add an additional bolt in the area directly under the bag to triangulate the fasteners. The rest of the plate would just rest on top of the 'shoulder' of the a-arm.

Yep plus I have a double headed bolt through the sway bar mount. Since all the weight of the burb is on the bag and that bag is on a plate that contacts most of the arm the bolts are more just to locate the plate and not really support much. All the weight and stress is on the upper bag mount and the lower inner A arm mount.

The bolts maintain the plates 'position' on the a-arm.
