Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Just to explain the cost of the parts and shipping is only to Florida
We then pay the container cost to the Uk then import duty @ 20% on the total cost so Total Parts invoice including shipping to Florida + container cost to the Uk then 20% duty on the total cost WHO SAID ITS GOING TO BE EASY DOING THIS IN THE UK |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
I had decided to replace the door window rubbers, felts etc in both my doors and the quater lights as I am going to remove the glass when I repair and repaint the doors.
Previously Martin and I had seen some 60-66 Chevy trucks with the 67-72 rear bumpers fitted, so they were on my to buy list as well, if the price was right. The photos will show that the step or number plate recess is inverted. For me the 67-72 bumper allows me to put my number plate bracket on a hing, and then to have a removable tow ball fitted when I do tow, with the plate folded up and out the way, tidying the rear en up some more. Correct bumper for 60-66 Fleetside. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps88976c25.jpg Then the 67-72 style Fleetside bumper http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps94a60a69.jpg I do not know who originally posted these pics, but thank you. Looking forward to getting these bits home in the new year. Also looking to buy a decent drivers side 1966 Quarter light window to replace my rusted out one. Anyone know of one for sale, please PM me. |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
That later bumper sure cleans up the rear view and looks like it was designed for the earlier truck. Looking forward to seeing one on your truck.

Thanks Mark. So do I. Pity Martin keeps spending my money...... Showing me improvements I would rather not buy as I need to watch the spend, then of course I go out and get the next thing. I desperately wanted to replace my existing bumper with the same item, but was not able to locate one anywhere, or to find out what it was from,, so I capitulated and bought the next best thing. |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Had to be home early today for tele-webex conference.
So the minute that was over I headed for the garage to remove a panel to take to the paint shop on Saturday, to buy my 2 Pack paint and other consumables etc for the truck. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pseb3e8408.jpg While unbolting the 3rd bolt on this panel........ this happened. GRRRRRR !! http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psa0297204.jpg Once I cut off the areal cable, as I could not get it unscrewed, and then cut the actual fitting off with a cutoff wheel, I had my colour sample. Note the trucks original blue colour behind it. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd89f012c.jpg I do hope I can the red colour matched up, as it really is very vibrant out in the sun. |

Well today at 6.45am I picked up Rian to go and get my car MOT and as it's only around the corner from the paint suplier I know he came with me . After the Car passed the MOT we drove to the suplier as I needed some thinners and he needed his colour matched . It turned out that a Chrysler red was very near match
Here's the pictures http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps240ba848.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps868b0db8.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps5c046e65.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps56bdb386.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pscba07528.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps010a577e.jpg Well all mixed up and a good colour match |

The other great thing to watch was how random people were shouting at Martin in the streets........ He was clearly well known and liked in this area where he ran a body shop for 13 years and it included painting many of South London's "Heavies" cars and Range Rovers. An added benefit of going in with Martin was that we got the paint and sundries at Trade prices which meant saving 20% VAT on the £350.00 purchase. So £70.00 into the kitty. Today I will spend in bed, as I have more than a man flu, poor Martin had to put up with me yesterday, coughing and spluttering all over him all day in the car and van when we brought the compressor back here. |

Couple more 67-72 rear bumper pics to add to your thread, thanks to the owners for posting up.

Suspect more guys may do so, if they want to tidy up the rear but keep it looking standard-ish. |

Quirky Question Time.
Saw this on another thread. Does one still get the small chrome lip fitted to the top of the door in this pic?? I like it because it is a quirky thing. If so, where do I look for new ones, or must I try find a pair of used ones? http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/...2/DSC02015.jpg As always, thank you for the input and advice. |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
The internet is a rather amazing invention.
Through my life on various interest forums I have met a range of amazing people, learned a lot, and shared some info. Friendships that should last as long as me have been forged. One of the many friendships formed on here has been with Bret J in Texas. He is a meticulous woodworker, and is restoring a Chevy C10 pickup for his wife that has been in the family a long time. A while ago I commented on some Rocketships that he had turned., saying that Nicola loved it too. Today I get home and there is a parcel from Texas. Bret and I have exchanged number plates before, so he had my address. Inside was the Rocketship mkVI for Nicola and some stickers for me, as well as some number plates for my collection. Bret sent me a Texas Disabled Veteran number plate and three Australian plates. JACKPOT !!! Massive thanks to Bret for his kindness |

At moments like this I always wonder what I did to deserve this kind of treatment. The plates were the cherry on top, and the stickers (I have still got a nice small collection, but used to have a large collection which I mostly gave to a guy who needed them more than me a few years ago) the sauce. This morning Nicola was walking about with her rocket, tainting me with "Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine....... All Mine" It lives on the front room bay window now. |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Slightly Off Thread....... but Hey Ho.
Well, two lots of plates landed this week. First was an unexpected parcel from Bret in Texas, included three Australian plates (Never been able to get any, despite some promises) and a disabled veterans plate. This fits into my narrowed down collecting of Military, DV, Govt etc plates. Also included was a hand made wooden Rocketship mkVI for my wife, which has her squealing with glee. Stickers from his collection, for my collection. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd7a58e30.jpg Rocketship in place. Note my special Sheriffs badge http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps388ad757.jpg The second parcel was a trade I did with Ben. Unfortunately the UK Customs will rape you for every penny possible. Unknowingly the value was made out to be $25.00 on the customs declaration which then attracted £13.61 ($21.40) in duty and handling fees. We all know the real value of these plates are cents, most of the value to me is inherent and emotional........ so getting bummed by the government angers me. Still, I have a load of awesome plates and just want this rant to make you guys aware that you need to really value the plates you put into international post at $1.00 each. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd87cbeb4.jpg Cool plates that all fit into my collecting. The last two weeks I have been buying in the stuff I need for the bodywork. Last week my Ebay account reverted to my old address which I vacated more than 4 years ago...... WTF??? No idea how that happens, as I had deleted the old address 4 years ago. So Yodel (less said the better) returned my items, some I found at the old address when Derek my old neighbour called me to say stuff had been delivered. So I re-ordered and paid delivery again. All items now accounted for. Included a small bodywork hammer set. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps3e8f872c.jpg Pile growing. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps7adbaeab.jpg Tonight after work I went back into the garage for the first time in a week. Re-welded a wheel mounting on my compressor that Martin and I managed to break off when manhandling it into his van last week. First time I used the Argon/CO2 gas I fitted recently, works differently, seems to be an improvement. So next up I need to move the truck out and fit the walls for the "Paint Booth" http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd39a8cde.jpg |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Glad to see Hefty is pulling his weight already. Glad you are feeling better. Look forward to seeing your paint booth setup.

BUT....... Sorry to disappoint you. Was planning on getting the walls up for the "Paint Booth" in the garage today. Instead I did all the ironing (Mrs Grizz is quite ill) some other tasks like filling the in house woodbox, kindling and coal scuttle, then refilled the outside woodbox from my stash behind the garage. Followed by raking up all the leaves on the lawn, half a wheelie bin full and then cut the grass on a medium height. Still not ready to start on my actual task, I remembered that I needed to make 13 spacers and 13 shims for Martins friend Russell, the paraplegic ex fireman. His furniture in his house is too low, so I offered to make some pieces to fit between the legs/feet using longer bolts. His daily drive car is a Nissan Skyline GTR which Martin converted to full hand controls for him. Seems he is rather capable behind the wheel as well. It was chilly earlier, around 2'C all day down at the garage. Found some Oak to use as it needs to be solid and structural. Cut, measure, mark. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psf6e0a846.jpg Then drill all the holes, including the adjustment slots http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps50d5611f.jpg All of these will be hidden underneath the furniture. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psae6a49df.jpg After this I measured out the garage and removed some of my number plates where the boards will fit. I may start tomorrow, along with putting up the Christmas tree with Nicola. Tonight by 6pm it was -2'C BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...... |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
ROAD TRIP !!!!!
This week I won some travel vouchers at work which means I will be going to the USA on a truck and bike oriented road trip with mate Martin in October 2015. Central to our trip is the weekend of 17th October when we will be in Fayetteville Arkansas for Clem's Old Truck Cruise In. I spoke to Clem earlier tonight about Martin and I attending his party, and was told that we were now booked into his Vintage Airstream Trailers that have been converted to accommodation units on his property. Coolest thing is that he lives in a 1950's Sinclair Gas Station. The next weekend is the BikesBluesandBBQ.org show. Time flies when you are having fun, and boy, we’re having fun in Northwest Arkansas! It was just a few years ago when Bikes Blues and BBQ didn’t even have a name; it was just a poker run with a BBQ grill, a blues band, and a handful of bikes at a Dickson Street Mexican restaurant (Jose’s, of course). Then it became America’s fastest growing rally, and then the world’s largest charity rally, and now suddenly, it’s been 15 years. What a ride, in every possible way. So, let’s celebrate that milestone the only way we know how – with the biggest party in this part of the country. As always, we’ll have free live music every day and night, the Stokes Air Bike Show, The BBB Car Show, stunt teams, The Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys “Miss BBB Contest” and “Blues Train”, the Arkansas State KCBS State BBQ Championship, Hambone Express Pig Races, the BBB Karaoke Contest, factory demo rides, hundreds of vendors, and so much more. The fact is, you’ll run out of time before you run out of things to do. But the real attraction of the rally is the multitude of great bike roads in the Ozarks region. No matter which direction you travel, you’ll find winding blue highways through spectacular scenery. Rivers, lakes, bluffs, picturesque towns, and we don’t have much in the way of straight roads. Everywhere you go, This falls in line with Martin's 50th birthday on the 26th. On the trip we hope to get some spares for the trucks and meet up with friends from Leander, Texas up to Tulsa, Oklahoma and a bunch of places I between. Early days, but early planning could see us save a few pennies to spend on beer. |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Being busy with creating the spray booth inside the garage, I have thought of a gazebo on front of it to do most of the dirty dusty filler work.
Yesterday FREECYCLE partially delivered with the ad copied and pasted below........ Scaffolding pipes and fittings to: BUILD A TEMPORARY CARPORT IN FRONT OF GARAGE. " I have some scaffolding bits which used to be put together to form a yacht cradle - they supported a 30ft yacht ashore during its winter maintenance. Those days are long gone and the scaffolding needs to go. It comprises about 20 poles, roughly speaking: 6 off 4m long 6 off 2m long 6 off 1-1.5m long few other odds and ends Plus a boxful of clamps to hold it all together, and drawings / photos if anyone wants to use it as a boat cradle for something 20-30 ft long! There are a load of wooden blocks used to level it and 6 support pads to rest against the hull of the boat. Anyone welcome to take away whether as boat cradle, scaffolding components or scrap. " Last night Martin and I went down to Gillingham in his Mondeo ST Estate with roof bars fitted and my Focus to collect all the pipework and fittings. Took it all home and unloaded, followed by a cuppa tea made by Nicola and Martin delivering Christmas prezzies. One of which he insisted I open there. Nice big box, not too heavy......hmmmmm?? What could it be?? Industrial ear plugs....... For our trip to the USA next year? His protection or mine? Cheeky Monkey. |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Perfect decoration for the garage, from Halloween a few years ago, Nicola found it on a sale for 50p
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psf660467d.jpg On Sunday I eventually got around to a job I have been putting off for some time, for various reasons, most of them just being logistics. I got the "walls" of the "spray booth" months ago from the local Catering company yard before they set fire to them. I decided to build a small recess into which my tall drill press/pillar drill would fit, and then to also offset the rest of the wall by another 300mm or 12 inches to give me maximum working space for when I do the bodywork on the truck, as well as the paint. One of the things I cannot do alone, is to manage 8 and 9 foot long sheets of wood, so I asked Ian who is living with us to come down to the garage to help me a couple of times. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps9e5f4a56.jpg frame in place and first sheet in place http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse99f5312.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pseb24a094.jpg Another long sheet, problem is they have metal in them that needs to be avoided, so a helping hand is needed. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps4119acf5.jpg When screwing the connecting strips between the sheets, two hands each side are ideal, so I allowed Ian access to the tools. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps651d8375.jpg Carried on till about 10.00pm on Sunday evening. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8534fae2.jpg And this was where I ended play on Sunday evening. Door to be created and hung, as well as some more reinforcing between the sections and closing small gaps http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psc6ca3b74.jpg Door hung, gaps sorted......... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps4952f976.jpg Truck back inside the space. Now there is space enough on both sides. On annual leave from Friday, so can start dismantling the truck, first job is removing all the stickers, toolbox etc..... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pseb1103e7.jpg That is all for now. Thanks for looking in guys. PS: Help, advice and visits welcome between 19th and 4th January. |
