I got mine on eBay. Look up Alan Grove web site. They come in bare metal. You have to plate or paint them. I had to open up the two holes that attach the bracket to the front of the block to get it all bolted together. Kind-of a PIA in that location with the engine installed.

EDIT....I bought it on Amazon.

Did this...

Took it for a little longer cruise around the area later that day, only to run out of gas, and collapse my fuel filter.
Still have some fine tuning on the carb, and some issues inside the steering column to address.

Its getting there.

I spent $50.00 dollars and bought all the tubing, hoses, and most of the clamps I need for the fuel line replacement. Lucked up and caught the tubing 1/2 off! I still need the extra filter and a couple more clamps.

Took a drive and ended up at the locally-owned burger joint. So, what's a guy to do? Sit outside and eat a burger....Watch the truck.
I parked far enough away. Then, the folks with walkers decided to descend upon RAT.

Freaky how that happens.

Got two "Nice Truck"s today. That always makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

Broke into a Napa auto parts yesterday...

A friend and I were out making the rounds and pulled in to get some gas, right next door is the Napa, so we walked over to se if they had a few parts. Sigh said open so we walked in. 2 steps through the door and the alarm started going off. We stopped, looked at each other and looked around. I checked again and the open sigh was lit up and the door was definitely unlocked... We stood there for a couple minutes the lights in the front were off but the lights in the back were on. The phone rang and my buddy answered it " Napa auto parts" it was the alarm company. He told the lady on the other end what happened and that we were not sure if there was anyone there, we suspected that the store was empty, but we were unsure. After that we left and didn't wait for the cops to show up... I am guessing whoever "locked up" will be in pretty big trouble.

Probably have you on video. Just hope that some young cop isn't looking for his first B&E case. lol

This all started last weekend.

I blacked out the grill a bit. I didn't want it all black but to darken it up a bit
http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...062618_555.jpg

I liked that small mod so I pulled off the emblems to darken them up a bit. All black was too much so I matched the body color. I don't have pics of the medium olive but they didn't really work so I went to the paint store to get something else. They suggested mixing without the metallic.
http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...102231_380.jpg

On the fender. Still not sure I like it yet
http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...130409_037.jpg

The last thing I did Saturday was fix my under hood light. The fuse was broken so I drilled the ends out

Spent a couple hours pulling the hubs, brakes, spindles, and all the brake lines off the front of the 74 to transplant into the 69. Anyone know if I can just replace the 69 balljoints with 74s and slap the spindles in? Parts store didn't have any 69s to compare to.

I don't know but I think there was an older thread that covered " disc brake up grade " and went into this in great detail .

You *might* have to change the tie rod ends too .

Thanks, I forgot to mention it's a c30 i'm working on. Every steering joint on the 74 was shot, and one sleeve wasn't even tight, so I figured I'd replace everything on the 69 with new 74 steering components, I'll have to check to see if the pitman arms are the same or not. One thing about it, I'll have front discs and a hefty sway bar up front now :metal:

VWNate1 05-14-2014 11:31 PM

Disc Brake Up Grade

You're welcome .

I know this has been covered in extreme detail before , you just need to spend some time looking up old build threads to find it .

It's pretty simple as long as you're able to replace ball joints .

IIRC Square Body GM trucks are where you go for the parts necessary .

Remember , your '69 has the vastly better metal A-Frame pivot bushings.... rubber sucks .

Me I'm a Luddite in addition to a Dinosaur so I want to upgrade to the standard 2-1/2" drum front brakes used in Suburbans and optional on pickups ~ I find rusted out Suburbans in Pick-A-Part all the time but have been too lazy to yank the full setup , including backing plates and hardware .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I bought some 48 LED light panels off of eBay and adapted them to the interior/courtesy/glovebox lights on my truck. WOW, it's like daylight!

Here is the box of 5 48 LED panels + 3 styles of adapters. It didn't come with a 67 bulb style adapter used in the factory style courtesy lights. I cut the ends off two of the adapters, broke the glass out of a couple 1156 bulbs and soldered the ends to the empty socket. This way I didn't ruin the courtesy light assembly and I can easily unplug them if needed.

http://www.bigmikeskustoms.com/My_69...s/DSC99990.jpg

I also fabricated a couple aluminum panels that were a little bigger than the LED lights. I stuck the lights to them (they come with 3M double stick tape already attached for easy mounting) and used an existing hole that was used for the courtesy lights to mount them. This way everything is easily reversible if I didn't like them or want to go back to stock later in life.

I put two LED panels in the dome light:

http://www.bigmikeskustoms.com/My_69...s/DSC00082.JPG

Which gives me THIS:

http://www.bigmikeskustoms.com/My_69...s/DSC09994.JPG

My courtesy lights:

http://www.bigmikeskustoms.com/My_69...s/DSC09997.JPG

And my glove box light, that comes on when I open it:

http://www.bigmikeskustoms.com/My_69...s/DSC09999.JPG

I still need to drill holes and install pin switches because my truck never had them.

Mike
