Re: 61K10 build

Very nice, did you replace a lot of bearing, or reuse some.
What lock-out hubs did you decide to use?

Re: 61K10 build

Les--everything in the axle is new. I put Warn locking hubs as they are older looking. Different than the spicer's of course as this is still a closed knuckle dana 44 with open knuckle spindles and wheel hubs to fit the disc brakes.

Re: 61K10 build

how hard was it to convert to disk brakes? I am thinking about doing them on my 64 k10

61K10 01-04-2016 02:37 PM

Re: 61K10 build

Mitch--You need spindles--wheel hubs--rotors--calipers from an open knuckle dana 44 and a different bushing for the spindle. just find a complete open axle for parts which would be the easiest. you could just change to a open knuckle front axle as your 12bolt probably has 3.73 gears, and it's a bolt in but not org looking.

Re: 61K10 build

Really like the tires too, do you have a photo of the Warn hubs you are using ( is it the ones in post 628), along with what years they are?

Also, on earlier Q, on how best to add disk brakes to front axle, the later 10 bolts, fit too. I think '87 on trucks and '91 on Blazers and Subs. However, 10 bolts may have different gears.

Have a great new year, and keep your build going too.

Re: 61K10 build

good thing i am replacing my rims and tires as the reversed 8x15" ones don't fit over the caliper. Probably because was gonna have two sets of tires but not now---(Matt?)

Les-- yes the hubs are the ones on post 628. I think they fit on open knuckle dana44 and 10b at least to 87 1/2 ton. 3.73 gears were standard on the open axles.

Re: 61K10 build

Randy--gonna stay black and no caps. more org looking i think. 61-63 k"s didn't come with any hub-caps.

Installing Capt's mounting plate for booster and clutch master. His stuff is top notch but not single installer friendly lol! tough to be inside the cab and out side at the same time. Got an idea though--------

thanks guy's---couple of more pics of Captian-fab's stuff. got the clutch master mounted with some custom studs--lock nuts and a screw driver slot in one end of the studs. One man install mods. had to shorten the spacer between the linkage and the pedal. will post up a pic later as i hook up the booster to pedal.

I've been aiming to ask you what kind of mirrors are you going to run...west coasts would look mighty fine...on there.

61K10 01-18-2016 01:20 PM

Re: 61K10 build

Randy go back to page 20 #490 and up post. I put new small after market ones on-JUNK you could not see while driving and barley when the tk was just idling. new old stock on e-bay was just too $$$. so some from summit like TJ has on his tk.

argonaut 01-18-2016 08:08 PM

Re: 61K10 build

I wonder if you filled the aftermarket mirror bracket tubes with some kind of bonding agent, or just something a little heavy, if it would dampen the vibrations. Like some concrete slurry with no gravel, or a heavy epoxy, or some really fluid JB weld. Might be worth a shot before you order new ones and drill more holes in your doors!

Its weird because I don't really have vibration issues with mine, and both sets are aftermarket.

Yeah, the mirrors look good. They suit the truck.
But now I think you should paint the front bumper silver like the rear...

I did get my booster and master installed, need to connect booster to brake pedal and bleed everything. will post up some pic's later.

Kimble,

Still working on my front springs, got the two front bushing ordered, and four for the rear. Looks like the rear did not get greased enough. The threads are gone on part of one bushing. On the other one still have not got the pin out of the bushing. However, did get the bushing out of the spring eye.
Last photo shows it being soaked to try and get it loose. The rear shackle holding it is being replaced. Really like the Kroil for getting parts free. This part has been soaked for weeks now off and on, now that it is out and verticle can keep it saturated. Tomorrow plan to put air pressure on the grease fitting hole to see if can force Kroil in more.

Re: 61K10 build

Les--are they the same as the front spring rear bushings pins? I have some pins from my front that aren't bad. yours if you want them.

aotte1 02-05-2016 03:11 PM

Re: 61K10 build

Kimble,

Yes, this is picture of front spring rear bushing with pin frozen in it . Would likely be interested in your front spring rear pin, if it is the same. The place Ron suggested in an earlier post here, showed a break for 60 to 63, And 64 to 66 for the front rear shackles. Them not showing pictures, do not know what the differences are. Did post photos of '64 rear shackles minus the bushing to my build yesterday.

Ordered front bushing, they are one piece for each eye of front spring. Out of stock on these, back ordered, however, should have in about two weeks. Tried to order the rear shackle kit for '64 front springs and they are out. Not sure when or if they will have them back in stock. They are trying to get four rear bushings with the treads inside.

Will likely have some rear spring shackle parts extra you are welcome too also, will keep you informed.

Les

Re: 61K10 build

A little up-date. my wheels go around again. ft hubs lock in and out ok. having a little problem getting my clutch adjusted with Capt's clutch set-up. bought some 1 1/2" wheel spacers for the rear to move the wheels out to match the front track. Don't know if i will run them, but it looks much better with the wheel/tires in alignment. will post up some pics when i get it out of the garage when i get my clutch working.
