Since you’ve got those pesky bolts removed, could you weld the nuts to the bracket for easier removal? Nice progress!

Maybe even one with a generator on it for back up situations? That way if you can find some gas you can at least recharge your batteries and make it where ever. :mm:

I got the stock OEM Lexus GS450h two piece drive shaft so I started to work on the middle donut support mount, I believe it's crucialistic that the short shaft is perfectly in line with the transmission

I started out by divorcing the two pieces just to make the short stick lighter and easier to work with, plus mounting it by itself gave me a line of sight to test with my eyecrometer

I also chose to remove the bulky rubber doo dad off the long shaft, at the end that would mate with a Lexus differential

this is where we will welder up an "American" [pronounced: Universal] joint

Public Service Announcement

If your drill remnants look like this, this means you have a good sharp drill bit. This is Goodness!

If they look like sparkle glitter that means you have a bad dull drill bit. This is not good.

Better get a faceplate on that outlet. You don't want the Feds showing up at your workplace to shut you down.

I am always impressed with your progress. I can see the first test drive coming just around the corner. Can't wait.

I like the way the battery trays could stack in the compartment. It'd have been hilarious if the c10 rear shaft and the Lexus front had mated right up. Great work, keep it up. When this runs, it'd be fun to hook it up and get some comparative performance numbers.

I was literally waiting months on someone to comment about that outlet, yes it has a perfectly weather tight cover plate which when on renders the darn thing completely unusable as you can not plug anything into it, ha ha

thanks, that's awesome for you to say, not sure about a test drive yet, but the goal for this month is wheel spin fer sure, under her own power

and you did not hear it from me but someone's turning fiddy in May so it sure would be nice to maybe git a test drive for his birthday, just sayin'

looks like both my Transmission and the short drive shaft sit at the same angle of 7.5°

please let me know if you all think that's too much on the slant? I honestly don't know if it is or not, we can raise the tail of the trans sum if need be

oh man and I had them out side by side before I took the Lexor in to git it shortened and a new rear 1310 yoke welded on

yes sir, and up until today I didn't know there was two different kind, no wonder my ball joint puller was slippin' off the tie rod ends, so I went to Oh' Reallys and rented the proper one

learned something new today, the steering knuckle comes off the spindle! who knew? I've only always seen 'em as one piece

Mike Bradbury 04-03-2022 12:37 PM

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

I have seen the steering arms both ways, removable and cast as one piece in the spindle. I wish mine were removable, my Mustang rack and pinion has terrible radius because the C20 arm is way too long for the rack.

Did you try applying heat to the spindle to expand it from the ball joint?

thanks Mike, and no not yet, here's a facetious question for you, how does the heat know which metal piece to expand, that has always bugged me, I mean we are applying heat to the spindle and the ball joint, so my simple mind thinks both grow in size, but then again I was never any good in Physics Education, could barely do 5 push 'em ups

managed to get the other side off today, this time I tried heat on the upper control arm ball joint, but no dice, also had to cut it
