Seems like it's never easy...

When I received my oil pan from Jeff at Billet Fabrication it came 1 week early and $200 less than quote. I wasn't perfectly happy the way it fit around my Tom Lowe 2 piece timing cover so I sent it back with my cover. He adjusted and got it right back to me. No questions and no charge. So it came today and I started polishing it. I got it sandad with 400 and 600 grit. I'm not going to sand the welds I'm just going to polish them. I like the look.

ive been taking a page from brains book and trying to do 20 minutes a day. im not getting every day but since im trying to do every day I have been getting out there 4 to 5 times per week. I have the inner and outer fenders painted, the welting glued on, and the two fenders mated together. I need an extra set of hands to install it though. I sont want to scratch it up after all the work.

My five minutes today was largely just telling me I am screwed and I have five hours or more to correct this stupid crap. Check this out, the door is hitting on the cab, ok, I figured I raked the post back a bit so I guess I messed up some how. Nope, well at least that isn't what is causing the whole problem if I did anything wrong. I stood there looking at this baffled trying to figure out how I did this, well I didn't, I fit the doors on the outside I guess never looking inside. Well the left door is a totally different shape than the right door! And the damn cab is too, making it the door issue even worse! Now I had noticed that the drivers door is literally a quarter inch shorter at the body line than the passenger one. I saw that a long time ago, but I never noticed the shape on the inside was so different! I made a little pattern and yep, it's not my mind making up stuff, the stamping of the door is totally different! The top of the area where the door trim panel fits has a sharper corner on it at the top and the door sticks out there further than the drivers side! Geeeez I am going to have to splice the door and bring it in there so it clears the pillar. I guess I will do the pillar to, a little on both to get the gap. CRAP!

man that sucks !! but better to find the problem now than after the cab is painted. I look forward to seeing how you solve this problem.

I'm still sanding on my oil pan. Some brake brackets came today so I got side tracked.

Lowered the stance 2" in front and 2" in rear. I like the stance now and I can get into the truck without the step. ;) Before and after pics.

Finally ready to polish. I'm about 11.5 hours into it. This piece was harder than I thought it would be. This was never designed to be pretty. There was a layer of mill scale type stuff that was quite hard so I started with 400 gr on the little die grinder D/A. I went 400-600-1000 on the die grinder and then back to 400 by hand to remove the swirl marks. By hand I went 400-600-800-1000-1200-1500-2000 grit. It's late so I will finish it tomorrow when I'm fresh.

Finished polishing the oil pan, about 15 hours total. This took a lot longer than I planned. It's not perfect but it was never supposed to be polished so nobody was careful with it. I had to throw in one last picture of the only 292 billet crank Crower has ever made according to them.

After getting the truck running.
I am itching to drive it.
My wife was sewing seat covers at a snail's pace. So I just went back to plan "A" and covered it with blankets I had bought for it.

I've been feeling a little funky the last few days so nothing out in the garage. But my strings got changed on my guitar with my kitty Mackie keeping an eye on my work. It was so funny, he was so interested in what I was doing. starring at the tuner, at the strings, my hands, he had a lot of interest in it. LOL

My custom SFI harmonic damper that is in route is all set up for big block chevy due to the leverage on the crank of everything stacked up in front of it. The problem is that my oil pump mandrel and blower pulleys all have the "Chrysler" bolt pattern that is the industry standard. I was going to have to have an adapter made to accommodate this. After talking to RBS Superchargers they sent me this pulley for $109 that all I have to do is cut the V belt part off. Much easier. Well see if it all fits together soon.
