Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Got another coat of rattle can paint on the lower control arms for my baby, hope it holds up and looks nice for a little while at least. I will put another coat of clear coat on it once installed to hide any marks I put on it during installation. Plan on putting the front cross member in this week end :)

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I spoke with a fellow member who lives about an hour from me and he has a bunch of parts I need. :metal: And I put in an order for a bunch of little stuff from classic parts. Nice way to burn thru $400.:waah: At least my truck will be ready to roll when the snow melts.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Picked up my set of plates for the truck, wish I could of gotten the antique plates, but already had a ticket, no sense in waiting to get another.
Bought some wiper arms and blades, figured I better get them on before I need them. Also bought a cheap shifter knob. Figured I've learned stick enough to get me a little something. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Scrapped the bad cab and some odds and ends. I couldn't help but feel a little sad when the crane grabbed it off the trailer and crushed it.
I just couldn't save it. Steven |

Went on a cruise to Tuckers Trucks. Then pulled out the welder, filled the antenna hole. Slapped the temp primer on. Showed the neighbor kid my build photos, his dad has a 1963 longbed build 18 years ago. Time to freshen it up I say. Found some parts I needed and some I don't. Anyone need a set of Bell Tech 2.5" Drop spindles? The brake kit I am getting has drop spindles inclued. PM me if so. 6-lug rear axles and drums after the 5 lug conversion.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Received and installed my new 1990 vintage NOS mechanical aircraft clock/chronograph today. This is how easy it is to read from the driver seat, much nicer than the old electric model with the setting knob in the middle:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Did this..Here's the update of the burb.. I'll let the pictures tell the story.. There were over 200 spot welds lovingly drilled out today...
Here's the driver's side outer floor and inner rocker welded in.. Still have to smooth the welds.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00272.jpg And--here's the mayhem I caused today.. I removed the entire inner structure in expectation of finding internal rot in the A-Pillar.. After rmoval of the dashboard and inner panel-I found that the inside was solid. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00282.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00283.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00284.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00286.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00288.jpg I will be coating the inside with rust converter and then using the cutaway pieces below to make everything solid.. I will sandblast all the individual pieces before slapping them together... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00290.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00291.jpg Does anyone re-produce these placards? I used a little Simple Green cleaner on mine to get the oxidation off, but the color started coming off worse than it already was. I figure I can get a new one if they are re-created and just stamp the original codes and numbers in the blank spaces. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00292.jpg And, here's the finished steering wheel. It's a GM Pewter Metallic Dupli-Color spray can color from NAPA. I think the lighting makes it look pretty close to the "Fawn" color although I was looking for more of a silver. The metallic in it is really nice-can't wait to get it in some better light. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/DSC00295.jpg There are more pictures in my link below showing today's work.. |

In my spot weld count I've removed two dashes, approximately spot welds on my burb. -2X front driver kick panels at 3X on one panel and 43 on the second. -3X Rocker panels with unknown number of spot welds.. I was able to order two of the 3-Pack's of 3/8" Blair cutters at my local NAPA for only $20... I thought that was far.. I'll likely need at least one.. And then I'll have extras for the next project. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I cleaned out the insulation/deadener and vacuumed up the new/older cab.
It will need rockers, both from floor supports, part of both sides of the floor boards and some dummy beat in two spots on the firewall to fit in an engine it appears. Not even close to as bad as the first cab even though it's more area. All in all, I am still stoked about the cab. I am still debating on shaved drip rails... Steven |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
There is NO WAY IN HE DOUBLE TOOTHPICKS That I would ever take a project down to the spot welds like you have. Where do you draw the line?

There's no way I'd take a project down so far. I'd let it go and get something with a little less work involved. |

Picked up a Flarestat hazard switch at pick-n-pull today. It's one of those things that I always wanted but couldn't bring myself to pay $100 for. $16.00 out the door. Has gmc on it instead of the bowtie, but I'll live with it. I drilled out the hole for the choke cable (don't have a choke anyways) with a 5/8" bit and it fits perfect.
