Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Looking for advice again.
Continuing on this path the carport construction enlightenment I thought it worthwhile asking about using some Aluminium scaffolding https://i294.photobucket.com/albums/...sdhl6hz0n.jpeg I was thinking a tapered structure, or flat structure, but mounted on a slope. https://i294.photobucket.com/albums/...sxpjqrm1v.jpeg Covered in industrial profile sheet metal roofing materials. https://i294.photobucket.com/albums/...slxadxjqs.jpeg Once again, I like the idea of lightweight construction and also premanufactured Layher Alloy Lattice beam supports. Any scaffolders on here know more ? |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
No photos as Photobucket messing around last 12 days and they do not reply to their Helpdesk.
But..... First Covid-19 Boot-fair of the year. Rain was forecast, soon;y 1/3 of field filled. Still got lucky. Needed a multi plug adapter to repair/replace one I drove over years ago...... £1.00 each or take the lot for £5.00 so I got 9 units. Also bought 14 GU10 lightbulbs for £5.00 And a very nice garden rake for £2.00 Came home, had breakfast, now headed out to garage to mix some cement in @Johnnybravo ‘s mixer to lay some more high density blocks in the ‘compressor room” that my interfering friend @PaulY suggested I build Next to the woodwork shed while relocating the wall on the drive. Those blocks are heavy for sure..... Good idea Paul. . |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Taken two days off work.
Photophukit is “Back online” but now I need to figure how to actually upload and use it on iPad and App. Grrrrrrr...../ Galaxy has been working, carrying loads of builder rubble unearthed while digging and moving soil in the garden. Also ran a quick errand for @Johnnybravo whom I hope to make a cuppa for today, if he is not racing around, as he usually has to do when doing an extended pickup trip. Carport and extended drive work continues. Measured last night, and have gained 500mm of driveway space, door to wall is now 6.3 meter max, so should fit many American cars or big stuff. Chainsaw next, to remove the tree stump that started it all. Later. |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
This is a test.
The “new Photophukit” is not yet imbedded in my phone or iPad. Lets see if this actually works. Pic uplosded Img tag lifted. Mickey brought around some cherries from his tree https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0944.HEIC In the mean time the heat and layong 19kg blocks along with some other yard jobs yesterday certainly kicked my butt. More to come. Hopefully. |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Uploaded some photos. About 22.
Need to find time to sit, relax.... try use links and do a write up. I have been busy and busy. Bootfairs were one good, one a bust today. |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
I reply on here sometimes and on your GJ thread sometimes.
Today I'll reply on both. Cool truck build:chevy: |

I think it’s sad so few people see it or know about it. Still trying to come to grips with the new Photobucket layout. Not impressed Have to use an app to pull the links. Website seems to suck. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0480.HEIC Prozac made a return to the valley, sans NASCAR stickers Sally took the pic. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...dedb6ebf33.jpg Also on FB was a reminder that a year ago we were watching races in the Blazer. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...6_IMG_0500.JPG So, back to the restructure down at the garage. Started by lifting the paving. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...f4cdc50411.jpg Helped of course. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0431.HEIC Also got to prep for the first post by digging a 25 inch deep hole. And making up the positioning board for the threaded studs https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...f2234bb113.jpg https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...d2c8405e43.jpg https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0461.HEIC https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0470.HEIC Poured https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0472.HEIC https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...7e48bd1386.jpg Made a small box to keep the paving and sand clear from the post mount until the post is shortened and ready. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0517.HEIC Once that was done, I decided to build a single level wall to help keep the hedge under control in the long term. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...2b78ea0add.jpg Blocks are 19kg each. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...92fa36ceb0.jpg New lodger is a welder, but likes a beer and to do some physical work after work. Suits me. So wall done. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0526.HEIC I also decided to add little drains between every alternative block, in case the rain ever was a problem. And a thick wedge of cement from behind to stop anything from unseating the blocks. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0527.HEIC Once the concrete had gone off, I waited 24 hrs and then used PaulF’s compactor to do a final setting of the paving stones/ https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0608.HEIC https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0572.HEIC https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0609.HEIC ‘So after this I could start on the next job..... This wall has a few cracks, so needed rebuilding and moving to improve overall usability https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...12E0EA4(1).jpg ‘Red wall” also needed to go and be moved. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...1339788B9C.jpg So made a start, removing loads of soil from behind the wall. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...09FE48B60C.jpg I moved 11 loads over the street to where trucks had greatest deep trench that the council will never repair, but where people like to par,. And after all of that, Andy bought me a beer. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_0521.HEIC Later. |

This guy lived down my chimney for three days before I managed to catch him
Created a huge soot storm in the lounge. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Went to my favourite scrap metal merchants to look for some decent steel to use in making up some wall plates for the carport. Failed, but managed to buy a really nice Muddy Fox mountain bike for the lodger for £5.00 https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Back home I started to pull down walls and dig out soil as @PaulY had suggested I create a compressor room next to the woodwork shed. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Taking down the brick and block work, and being as tight as I am, I cleaned the blocks and stacked them for future reuse. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds When unfit, it seems a bigger job than it is. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Archeological finds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Prepared for concreting and boxiing in. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Thanks to @JohnnyBravo for the mixer https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds The Galaxy once again proved itself more than capable in the shifting stuff department. Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
I hear ya about the digging part Rian. Been so long since I had to regularly dig ditches for cable installations. I remember my techniques, but I do think the age interfers with the good digging technique. Must say I don't normally feel bad until I stop, then it all catches up with me, WAY to fast.
|
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
I agree with Bill, while doing the work its not so bad. Its at the end of the day and the next morning that you remember why you don't work as hard has you did in your 20's or 30's or even 40's.
I get a kick out of Rian's shoes. Digging with flip flops, but mixing and placing concrete in socks and tennis shoes... |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
And this is said treasure pile up at the farm.
Someone dumped two full, unused pallets of grey paving stones there a year or so ago. The farm mixes all the rubble from time to time, but those with slight of hand skills can still score a few stones..... Get my drift? https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Speaking of.... I ultimately took 11 large wheelbarrow loads of paving cutoff and soil over the road to put in a trench a twin axle truck put there in winter, meaning nobody could park there safely, except for 4x4’s https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds @PaulY also offered to put a door on his Annexe as it was his bright idea to put the compressor outside. Thanks mate, sure I can make it fit once I build and fit a crooked doorframe. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds And the bootfair fig tree I bought three years ago, has 16 figs this year https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds In other news from the USA, Dennis’s new dog Archer had his first haircut, looks like a dog now. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Back to making more car space. This was an interesting build, no plans, no levels, no straight lines and nature to contend with (I respected the plants first and built around them) So a few curves where I avoided damaging the main roots of shrubs and trees. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Also carried on digging out all the rubble that had been deposited behind the wall by the paving contractor. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Also cleaned up every block I took down with bolster and lump hammer. Crazy, but saving about £60.00 in recycling between Zoom nd Teams meetings and doing admin indoors was quite therapeutic too. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Andy, my new lodger loves working up a sweat too, and loved putting the 20 pound hammer to the wall, bringing it down bit by bit. Really useful finding a good lodger. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds So once the clearing was done, I could start to lay the blocks on the new line I had planned. Pushing back the grey wall to where the red wall was before and joining PauY’s Annexe wall. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds One of the biggest problems is actually getting the curve to look half decent. So some recycled blocks were already halved, but the new, tighter curve meant some needed further cutting. Always glad that I buy certain rare use tools, so much easier going into the back of the garage and digging them out. Grinder, diamond blade, action. Build https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Walls headed in the right direction Also made some vents for the compressor room from the same fire wood and added them in. They will get cat proof mesh from an old freezer later. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Gained 500mm to make the space between garage door and wall 6.3 meters. This is only for a small section as there will be a solid galvanised post about 40mm to the right of PaulY’s Annexe wall corner that will be on the drive. Still, very pleased that so much work has resulted in so little gain https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds A while ago Sally and I went over to Kevin and Teresa’s in Maidstone for a fully distanced garden patio lunch, and I saw that he had thrown out for recycling, a pair of bulkhead lights. Guess where they are now. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Used some white oak skirting boards from the fire wood pile to make recess boxes to add into the wall later. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Bitumen all sides to protect the wood. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Poor Sally was not having much company here with me using all the bits of time I could find inbetween work an various other things, so she went for long walks with her new graduate lodger, to show him the area. Sharing a bit with me. She wins https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Long days and lonely nights..... https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Another quick early morning job before showering and starting the days Zoom meetings etc.
Mixed fine kiln dried sand and cement in a crazy strong ratio and painted the wall to seal the pores for paint later, just to make the room lighter. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Also found while breaking down more of the wall, just how deep I had planted the tree that caused a lot of this, so unearthed more of it and fetched the chainsaw out, again early morning at -8.05 so neighbours could just shut up. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Cut. Drilled a bunch of holes in It and filled them with pure Roundup, that should sort it. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Took two days leave along with Sally when it was so very hot, spent them not with her..... oooopps. But Mickey had a lead on some storage units being emptied of the scrap left in there. Galaxy, gloves, trailer, CHECK ! https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Got some industrial shelving to go in the carport. These are not cheap. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds About 45 litres of white paint, 5 litres of PVA glue, 2.5 litres of indoor satin varnish, some tools, including a new pick axe and various other bits. Next day we went back to fetch a load of plastic decking flooring, and a new sheet of ply, a load of plastic storage boxes and various other free treasures. Mickey had been in there days before me and found three Dewalt power skill saws, random hand tools, drills, and some chargers plus a load of scrap copper that he weighed in along with aluminium for about £70.00 https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Happy guy. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds While out a few weeks ago in the Galaxy, I clocked a jumbo bag on a sidewalk where paving had been redone. On one of our return trips from the storage units with Mickey, we detoured along the country lane it was on, and I stopped to see what was in it...... JACKPOT....! I went to knock on the front door, but nobody answered, so we drove off. Next day I was dressed a bit neater and went back to knock again and asked if I could remove some contents. Yes, no problem, the bag is getting collected later today. Lucky me. So, I hear you ask, what was in this skip bag? Remember that with moving the wall on that curve, I now needed more paving stones to cover the area, and add to that the fact that the curve has a load of cut bricks, and you have a significant deficit. I had been looking for matching block paving, as I had originally selected a mixed colour, rather than red and grey as many people do. The stones in this bag are also thicker than what I have on my drive, possibly a commercial grade. So when I lift a large section of the paving to repair the sinking in caused by American cars and trucks reversing up and down the drive in from]not of the garage, the new heavy duty -avers will go in there, and the under ones go into the new, low traffic sections. Adding up the value of the pavement find, again I came up to a conservative value of £50.00 found for free. Would you pick up £50.00 off the pavement?/ Sure you would. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Amazingly, 100 exactly, dug from the bag and a load of 3/4 cut ones too, just in case I need them. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Pressure cleaned one of them to see how they clean up. Happy. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Free cash means money in the kitty for other frivolous pursuits like a Toyota Deliboy. https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread...toyota-deliboy I like it a lot, despite 270 miles to go look. . |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Seems bootfairs are a bust so far this year.
Loads of Pink Sh!t as @JohnnyBravo would say. Not much technical or bargainous Today was no change. New Coca Cola rugby ball for CraigRK and his collection £1.00 12 skull bottles £1.00 Used Real bristle brush 50P Spanner to use as door hand;e on compressor room £1.00 Name plate 50p https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Contemplating not going to bootfairs anymore, but suspect it’s an addiction....... |

Seller has only had it three months and is selling it on again, makes me a bit inquisitive as to why this thing keeps changing hands..... he sent me these pics of his current build which certainly resembles the Deliboy in basic profile. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
So the COVID Crisis continues.
Meaning I get to work from home for the foreseeable future, which is less fun than you may think, but at least I am employed. Inbetween meetings etc, I did manage to bake batch no 2 of South African style rusks, the first ones were muesli and really good. This time I did fruit and aniseed with a bit of muesli tossed in for luck. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Once baked, you let them cool down as a loaf, then cut into strips or blocks and dry at 70-90’C for 4-5 hrs and pack away in tins or plastic storage. Great alternative to breakfast, snacking or with coffee. Oh, and not everybody’s thing. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Also got a great parcel from Dikkehemaworst in Amsterdam. Awesome contents. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds And the building went on, sometimes a few blocks at 07.00am or after dinner. Amazing how a lump hammer can level things out. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Bulkhead light boxes went in. Power will be from the woodwork shed that has its own independent supply https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Previously wall was 4 courses high https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Decided to go 5 high as the plants do tend to take over. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Mickey came around to paint the boxes wit some weird pool and pond paint while his brush was wet as he was rebuilding the floor of his fishpond https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Once the wall was at full height, I cut a load of wood, white oak, that I had originally planned to use for theChevy C10’s rear bed floor up and screwed it all down on a frame, to be felted once completed. One strip left to add. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Mickey straight up on top as he weighs about as much as a packet of Doritos. Adding a small facia on the garden side to close it all in a bit more to keep birds from nesting in there. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Once Mickey went home for dinner, I carried on and felted the roof, plus added an end strip to it all. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Have to say, it has become a bigger job than planned, but I am pretty pleased with all the added bits. It should work well in the long term. . |

Just got to keep chipping away when I get time The following post is bad use there are quite a lot of UK guys on here as well, so just copied and pasting. Random FB Marketplace score. A lady who works at a postal sorting depot about 15 miles from me, posted up plastic storage boxes going free of charge. I replied that I was interested, as I am going to need some boxes or trays for the new carport in which to store stuff. So this morning early (She starts work at 05.30) I drove over to collect some. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds There are loads available, some are knackered, and not right for me, but you can pick through them. They will certainly not be everyone’s cuppa tea, being corrugated plastic, but for me they will work. Sizes are 300x600 and 300x450 as original sizes, and they are slightly funnel shaped. I did not take any of the small ones, but they may work for some. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Let me know by PM if you are near Maidstone or Rochester and want some, and I will see what I can arrange for you regarding access and collection. |
