Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Installed a rear shock relocation kit with new lowering shocks, adjustable trac bar with relocation kit. Also wire wheeled my trailing arms and painted with eastwood extreme chassis paint and then installed new poly bushings. Need to finish the trac bar tomorrow and put the rear sawy bar on. Also installed my E brake setup from another board member and and works great. :burnout:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I picked up my new to me rear end in my trailer. Then when we (wife and I) got home we had to unload it & put it up on saw horses!
My wife said (after we got it out and on the horses) & I quote "This is not $ucking woman's work". It was really heavy and it was all she could do to get it out of the trailer and just hold it! She is a great woman for always helping me even when it hurts her! It was really to heavy for her to be lifting but she is a trooper and did it anyway! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
When you are doing the rear end double check your ride hieght against drive shaft clearance. I ran a 3 inch aluminum one piece shaft with the new 9 inch moser I installed . I had to grind some on the hoop in the frame. No big deal more than enough room though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally a good enough day to get the spare tire fender primed and painted. Now to get the fender one and the holder on and it will be good to go.

I followed PoDuck's write-up and parts list (#62 Brake Question), and replaced the brakes on my '60. My 'after' pics looked just like his, so no sense posting them. I will show y'all the bucket-O-parts and the 'NICE' surprises I found as far as cracked shoes and hoses. :dohh:
I replaced everything but the Master Cylinder - flexible lines, shoes, drums, hardware, wheel cylinders. I suppose the MC will go out now. Gravity bled the system and test drive went well. Yay! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Sticking to my "build it from wrecking yard parts" theme, I bought a used fuel tank and itstalled it today. I did splurge and buy a new sending unit, so I have about $80 invested and the fuel system is doing great! Fuel gauge even works! Plus, I got a few looks driving it to the station and back. Did I mention that I love these trucks?!? :D

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Picked up some of this at Lowes and hot glued it to the inside of my cowl panel.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Drove it around my lot, one of the customers kids wanted to ride in it. Tomorrow it gets insurance so it can see the road again.

Last night I fixed the single barrel carb, seems the power piston was frozen in place and took more than a little work after sitting in gunk carb cleaner for 45 minutes to get it free again. Plus I found out that the throttle valve assembly is leaking at the the sides, where the valve sits... so thats great!
But since it was running pretty good this morning I decided to hit up a local Moose Lodge car show, a charity event for Veterans comming home. Was pretty great since this was my second one! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
all my seams are filled in. drilled very small holes all along the crack and with a mig welder, shot the wire in those holes to make everything solid, then ground the crack to its original shape

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Weather was great! Rolled it outside for first time in a year and took bed apart for cleaning and so on. Frame looks like it will clean up without any major issues.
Started on 78 steering linkage and blew it apart - cleaning, priming, and painting pieces. Sunday I went to work on floor repairs for transmission tunnel cover. PO cut it up pretty good for a truck 4 speed... bit of a hack job. Cover isn't much better so if any of you happen to have a line on any straight low floor covers let me know... mine is "fixable" but replacement would be much easier. living the dream... rg |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Installed the passenger side front and rear cab supports and did a little more welding on the passenger side floor pans. The rear cab support had to be narrowed and the flanges reworked to match the original and fit up to the floor and rear pillar correctly.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Bed off, new rear suspension components mocked up, then removed along with ALL rear suspension. Just about ready to separate the frame and cab. Details, and pictures in my build thread.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Painted water pump, block off plates and water neck.
The fastener store was out of the right size bolts for the water pump, but, I got the others and polished them and got that stuff mounted. I have to repaint the pulleys, double check all the bolts and then drop the engine on the frame. Steven |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally finished rear end swap and got to drive her again!
Now I have vibration at 60mph! What tha!!!!!! I ran her after I had the drive shaft shortened and no vibration but now with the rear end swap! Tab-day flippen vibration anyone have any ideas??? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Check and see if the u bolts are tight enough. Also, did you change the fluid in the rear end? Finally, remove the wheels completely and put them back on.
I had a car with a wicked vibration. Took off the wheels to inspect a couple things and found nothing until I put the wheels back on and notice a little catch that very slightly kept it from seating all the way. A few licks with a rat tail file in the lug holes and it tightened up really well. Steven |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I drove around town, stopped at the local hot rod restoration shop and had the body guy take a look at my fenders and bed. My starter has been a little slow lately so I thought today would be a good day to change it. I jacked the truck up and pulled the old one out. Looked kinda weird but off to the parts place. They don't have one to match and I had no idea what year my motor is so I drive home, get the numbers off the block and search. I find out what the motor is and go back to the store. They still don't have a match then I realize it's a high torque starter. Duh! Get the right starter and oil change stuff since the truck is in the air anyway. Find out I don't have the right bolts, back to the parts store, find out I need bigger wire connector thinggies, back to the store. Get everything on, change the oil and fire it up. No smoke, fire or sparks. No oil gushing out life is good. Grab the dog head down to the Jr. High do some doughnuts in the parking lot for the skaters and head home. Who woulda thought it would take 7 hours to change a starter and oil? :waah:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Another quick thing to try is flipping the driveshaft 180 degrees from the way you have it mounted.
