I looked all over for a sporty/performance tire and I ended up with one option. Everything else was discontinued or not available. I was able to find endless options for a regular touring tire or off-road tire in 265/70/16, but not what I wanted.

These are 245/75/16. Not much difference in size, but look less like balloons on the rims since they are a tad narrower.

As usual good ole Southeast Missouri weather pretty much ruined my plans for today, which was taking my '67 to it's first car show. I have been working on it quite a while to get it ready. Thunderstorms started last night and lasted pretty much most of the day.

When I got up this morning to go I took my ole 4-Runner out our gravel road to see if my '67 would make it, I found some washed out parts of the road and water about 2 feet deep for about an eighth of a mile.

I went to my son's in the 4-Runner and talked about what we were going to do next on our old trucks.

Here are a couple of trucks we were going to enter, the white one is my '67 and the blue and white one is my daughter-in-laws.

Nothing too exciting, replaced a cracked (and possibly incorrect) choke pull-off. Starts instantly now. Airtex replacement Made in the USA. On a side note my rebuilt Quadrajet came off a Cadillac (apparently a lot of em did).

Pulled and cleaned the auxiliary tanks. The insides weren't too bad even though they haven't been used in almost 8 years according to the PO. Seafoamed the inside to clean any trash out which was minimal and then sprayed the outside with Rustoleum Flexseal to clean them up a bit and refresh the look. Also replaced all the hoses to the fuel switch from them. Also had to replace the lock sets on the fuel doors as the PO didn't have the keys. Easy enough, just used some stainless mailbox locks from Home Depot that were keyed alike. Turned out pretty good and glad to have them functional again. I was surprised to see they were only 16-17 gallons each though. Its nice to drive around and not watch the fuel gauge go down.

Thought I would add to this thread as well. I got a set of 3/4 ton springs and tossed them on. Looks a lot better. I haven't take it for a spin yet as it was a long day in the AZ heat. Passenger side was tough. Took forever to get the bolts out and even putting them back on was a PITA. I might replace the u-bolts and nuts and my air gun should have been enough to put them back on. I instead used a 1/2 ratchet and pipe to tighten it down. Oh well. I can finally put a full load in back and not worry about the bump stops. Sorry no pics but I am sure people on here know what I am talking about.

Got the new ignition parts in, replaced the rotten expansion plug in the block, filled the radiator with coolant, ready to light the fires after 30 years of sitting in a field. Realized I left the key back at the house 45 minutes away. No fires today. Killed a monster black widow taking up residence between the starter and selinoid. Thing was coming after me while I was pulling the starter from under the truck. Hate those things.

I replaced both front break wheel cylinders on my 70. really makes the truck stop much better.
It is amazing how many people that work in parts stores don't know that vehicles came with drum brakes up front...
I also built myself a glove box on Friday :)

Well i wanted to install new rad mounts, put on emblems, out on new state liecence, and fix the window.. I installed the license plate and that was about it. I did order lots of parts though. The radiator core mounts caused the quarters to change their geometry and innow need to shim the cab. I loosened the body mounts and jacked up the cab. I need to raise it about 3/16" on the front to get it right. Ordered shims. The emblems did not have the correct nuts so i will need to pick those up this week. The window regulator was totolly fubared. I have parts to repair the regulartor but they are in storage. Ordered. I am going to order tires too. Mine are so bad im afraid to drive the two miles to the tirestore. Im going to do two at a time.

So figured out a lot of what i needed to do, just didnt get much done.

dahos, looks good. I think you better recheck the install of the inner tierods. The center link needs turned around and the tie rod end nuts face forward.

I can't tell you much I like this ! not only the RED
but also the proper full length carpet to the back of the floor ~ until you try this once , you cannot possibly imagine how much noise reduction this affords .

Sadly , my '69 is a Work Rig so no carpets , they'd be ruined in a week .

Drove around all winter with it like the first pic
It finally warmed up enough to get the creases out of the MIP floor so I forged ahead.

Second pic is the dynamat I installed
Third is with the floor in and trimed up to the best I could on my fist attempt

Last is with the seats and console in and ready to drive. Much better now

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Drove home and did a routine LOF , I only missed the mileage by 168 miles , pretty good .

Whilst I was underneath with a 9/16" wrench in my hand , I tugged on some random fasteners and discovered the tranny cross member to frame bolts were loose  boy howdy those things are close to the cab floor & hard to reach .

Tightened them up and noticed my forward cab mounts are shot , I think I'll try the urethane ones .

Then I decided to replace the leaky exhaust donut , I used a sintered steel one as the old fiber wrapped typ keeps leaking .

I had to loosen the whole exhaust to wiggle it forward about 1/8" before the head pipe entered the exhaust manifold's hole dead center ~ we'll see if that helped or it begins leaking again in two weeks .

Lotta hard works for an old man who's more beat up than the truck is =8-^ .

Damn, I feel stupid.
I had to look up "LOF" on Wikipedia.

I came home from a big trip across the pond to 90 degree weather. My headliner (on the truck, not my shoulders) came unglued while we were gone.

I'd backed the carpet I used with cardboard. So, I removed the cardboard and re-stuck the carpet without the backing this time.

We'll see if that will stick as the heat gets worse.

VWNate1 06-05-2013 05:57 PM

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

NOT ' stupid ' ! I'm a Journeyman Mechanic and have been working on vehicles since I was in short pants , I tend to use the shop / dealer jargon all the time .

If the headliner comes loose again , there may be a fuel vent leak as the fumes are very rough on adhesives .
