Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project
The truck turned out great! You have worked your tail off on that thing, and you deserve every bit of the accolades you get. I went back to the beginning of the thread, and it's amazing how different it looks now. You do nice work, and now it's time to enjoy it!

Well, i think i can call it "done" for now. This winter, drop the saddle tanks and paint them a little better, drop the evap box and make two better lines for it, and drop the tranny and have rebuilder put new synchros in to fix 2nd gear.
It's been cleaned and detailed, rattle canned underneath some overspray areas, and, finally, the decals are on. Crap, i forgot i need floormats. OK, done except floormats. And the one front bump stop that fell out. OK, except those two things. Going to hit the all chevy show tomorrow at summit if anyone wants to stop by. Also, i found a pretty decent paint run on the hood that no one has noticed yet. I'm not telling where. |

Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project
Congats. That thing is a show stopper, beautiful throughout. Now you are getting rewarded for all your work. I would spend a lot of time looking at that truck if I were at a show like that. Nice restoration and attention to detail.

Took it to summit for the all chevy show, placed in the top 5 out of about 75! I know trophies arent everything, and some guys have piles of them, but i've never had anything that nice to even be in the running.

Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project
The trophy is well deserved. It's a beautiful truck!

Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project

Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project
Grandapa54: yes, had a new sticker made to match new color code, and a couple options i added (OD, 4spd, big back window.) Also, i just like stickers.
dually: It is a relaxing and cruising machine. My 71 pontiac is rumbly, angry, attention getting. I'd say blasting metal is the music equiv. This truck is easy listening cruising on a back road. Appeals to a different side of me. I will say though, after finishing this, i'm sad about my other rides, because they pale in comparison now! This hobby will be the death of me :( |

Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project
Truck looks great! If you got 5th what did the other 4 trucks look like. The judges must have not been into original stock trucks cause you should have got FIRST!

Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project
It was a general show, so there was corvettes and chevelles and hot rods and newer chevys. It wasn't 5th as much as "in the top 5, in no order" One of the others was my father in law's blue 57 that you could see in the pics above, and some other really nice cars. So there was best engine, summits pick, top 30, top 5, and best of show. If you ever go to summit and look above the door, there is a bright red perfect 57. That exact car was there, won best of show. Here is a link to it, every inch flawless. Definitely had me way beat in time, money, effort, and trailer miles:

Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project
Congrats on the trophy.
Watching this build has been inspiring on mine. Great Truck. First of many trophys to come. Better build a cabinet to hold all of them. |
Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project

Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project

Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project
Were over 200 cars there today, and all of them gorgeous...I won dealers choice (was at a car dealership.)
Honestly when we got there and saw what we were up against (legit super bird, tons of gorgeous GTOs, a fantastic chevy coupe that placed top 80 out of like 6000 in good guys columbus and others) i really didn't have high hopes. Talked to lots of people that loved the truck. It's not that i need to win to like the truck, it's just knowing that others share your taste in what you like in a vehicle, it re-affirms that what you do is worth it to more than just you. |
Re: '66 Longbed 327 w/AC project
Congrats on the wins Your truck turned out Great. That's a truck to be proud of and you can drive and enjoy.
