Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

you guys ROCK! :metal:

as for the oil pan, i have to call BRP this morning and MAKE SURE there kit makes it possible to run the stock a/c compressor in the stock location w/o notching the frame for the lines and order the kit. then i can set the motor in and see how far down the oil pan hangs. they say it only hangs down an inch butwe'll see. the BRP mount kit is expensive but i figure after i buy the conversion plates($50) motor mounts($30) and a top mount a/c unit with compressor($300) tranny mount($20) i'm right up there($450 BRP kit) give or take a hundred and i wont have to worry about the tranny crossmember or the bend in the frame with the longer tranny. thoughts??

as for the fan clutch...i'll see about getting a better strap wrench and maybe take the entire pump over to my buddy at the GM dealership and have someone break it loose.

Billy, i'm off tuesday man. i almost called ya this weekend(had the last 4 days off) but being a holiday weekend i didnt want to bother ya out of the blue;) i'll give you a call this morning.

Gerald, give me your address and i'll just ship'em off to ya!! :haha: wont be for awhile that i need them... BTW, GOOD LUCK AT WORK TODAY!!

as for the fire wall! you just HAD to bring it up HUH!? No buddy, i'm dreading the whole body work/ welding deal. i still need to get a welder and fix the floor pan too. maybe i can just ship that out too huh Gerald! :haha:

MONEY SHOT!!!!

You know how big of an itch you are going to have to want to start that thing!?!??!! This is sweet dude, congratulations! :metal: I know how anxious you have been to do this.

I like the way you are going on the color. You are right, I was hoping to see more of the red. It is visible, but not what I figured it would be. I guess I forgot that this is not your average small block, where practically EVERYTHING is visible.

You know who you can go to if you have any questions. Should be pretty easy for you to do. :D

:metal: right on Bob! thank you! when the time comes to start the cooling steam lines and tapping into the block i'll be calling!;)

btw, this block came with what looks to be oil cooler lines? not sure yet what to do about that. most 5.3 swaps the block is tapped into by the oil filter but this one has lines coming out? i still have more questions then answers as usual!! 1 step at a time though...

busy day!! flew by way too fast though.... enough talk, on to pics;)
intakes on with the new returnless fuel rail. left the injectors in the new rail but turned them 180*. they looked way better than the orig. also cleaned the heck out of the intake.

got all the lines hooked back up to the intake and cleaned the pcv.
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/IMG_5088.jpg

took the water pump to a little shop down the street and got that awful fan clutch removed. cleaned, primed and painted water pump... beautiful!!
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/IMG_5091.jpg

took the goats exhaust manifolds outta the attic to compare and measure. come to find out they will hit the frame stands. just a rough guess with the measuring tape. i'll try them again when everythings in place in the chassis.
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/IMG_5089.jpg

took off the heat shields on the stock manifolds and painted them up with bbq flat black. supposed to be good til 1200*! yea right... also installed the coil paks and test fit a set of a/c delco wires.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/IMG_5103.jpg

still to do is borrow Billy's picker and get the oil pan clean and painted, get a pulley puller for the power steering pump so i can clean and paint the bracket black, get a new belt tensioner from Larry at SPP, an intake egr block off plate and the top half is done! tried to get ahold of BRP for their mounts but havent heard from them. soon as i get the mounts i can set this baby in its new home and start working over the tranny.

WOOT WOOT!!! :five:
That is coming along great. My address was on the envelope I sent you but call me if you need it. You are more than welcome to send those out for me to smooth. I can answer any weekday after 5pm mountain time. Or most of the weekend. But not during the weekdays because I have a new job that is going very well, thank you for asking!

GAME ON!!! (Sorry, hadn't checked in for awhile). Nice score on the 6.0L.

If you have trouble with one of those fans again my trick is doubling-up a piece of tie wire and looping it through a small hole in the fan pully then around the water pump neck. Between this and the friction of the belt still it stays put long enough to loosen the nut.

That looks freakin awesome. Very nice work. Although, I chuckled when I saw the torque converter still bolted to the flex plate. Bet that would be impossible to put back together that way! A guy I work with was putting his trans in at home and didnt have the converter seated all the way, cracked the bellhousing half way to the tailshaft. Bad thing is it is a 4l80 he got from Bowtie Overdrives. Fully built and all. Woops...

I left the hardlines and flared the ends and used a universal tranny cooler from B&M

looking good you will not be dissapointed oh and if you could take extra pics of the brp motor mounts i want to go with those next time.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Just a note, Not sure if you knew or not, but you are gonna have to remove the convertor from the flex plate and install it in the trans before bolting the transmission back up, when you install the converter back in the trans, turn it a few times as you push in so that it lines up with the Pump tangs, if you go to install the trans and can't get the bellhouseing to mate up with the block w/o forcing it, the converter isn't in enough, DO NOT use the bellhouseing bolts to pull the trans to the block. It will ruin the pump.

 thanks John! i asked around and even had a thread to make sure how and if i had to take that darn tq. converter off and reset it. thanks for the heads up though.

works still trying to kill me! thousands of pounds of crabs cracked and cleaned today and through the weekend. good times... i did get a small promotion as 2nd man in charge in the dept. so my schedule will be pretty much set for the most part;) no progress to report but i'll be off wednesday and thursday and hopefully get the motor finished, mounts ordered, some of the fuel system parts ordered, and get the tranny cleaned and painted and bolted back together! probably wishful thinking since the weathers supposed to be really bad but we'll see...
