Haha, I have thought about a comment you made when I originally put my truck in the shop. The paint shop said 6 - 8 weeks and you said 4 - 6 months. Looks like you are much closer than they are on timing! lol

Not much of an update. A pic of my truck that was sent to me. I didn't have time to get by there today but I'll drop in tomorrow.

Well I finally got a chance to go to the paint shop today and I'm very happy with how the truck is turning out! For some reason the gray looks blue in a couple pics. They said they plan on wet sanding and buffing it tomorrow, bed liner Wednesday and belt molding and wheel trim Thursday. I wet sanded my door trim today and shined it up with some Mothers polish. I'm thinking about using a charcoal gray pin stripe to separate the colors, not sure yet though! They said I should have it by the weekend. In paint shop talk that means in a month!

Looks great. I am sure you said but I am being lazy and don't want to re-read 20 pages but what are the color codes for this. Is the top color close to the factory steel gray?

Thanks Korwin! rs74, I'm not sure what the paint code is. I just picked through some paint chips at the shop. I'll ask them next time I'm up there.

You are going to want something brighter to separate the colors. Think orange or red (my choice would be a medium orange). Since both colors are neutral, anything will work. A brighter color will give you more separation.

I've thought about doing something like a softer orange or kiwi green but when think about it I back out....lol

try it with tape and see if you like it. If not, you can peel it back off.

I think a gray type stripe would look good on it. I think it would go with the 'all silver' thing you got going. Looks good already, and hasn't been sanded and buffed!

Thanks Mike! It looks so much better in the sun and it's even covered with dust!

I am thinking charcoal gray because I didn't shave anything and I'm going back with the factory style trim but there is a part of me that wants to step outside my comfort zone! I will play with it today in MS Paint.

So I wanted to polish my cab trim and took some advice from forum member Sodell. I'm very happy with the outcome up to this point! Hoping to get the last piece done tomorrow. Steps I've taken...
120 grit flapper wheel in drill, 320g hand sanded, 600g hand sanded, 800g wet sand, 1500g wet sanded, 2000g wet sanded and then polished out with some Mothers polish.

Man I am with you on wanting to see it finished. I was actually near you earlier this year. I had to go to BullHead City and move my grandpa down to Texas. Flew to Vegas Friday morning, caught a shuttle bus to Laughlin and my grandpa picked me up there. Packed him up Friday and Saturday and started home in the U Haul Saturday night. I drove right through Kingman and caught Hwy 93 down to Phoenix. It only took approx. 30 hours of straight driving to get home, lol:lol:

How long did it take you to do just one of those corner cab moldings? Mine are oxidized pretty bad as is the tailgate molding.

It took almost 2 hours to do one cab corner. It takes some time because of the emblem that you have to go around and the bend. I think I should be able to do the straight piece in approx. 3 - 3.5 hours. It would take approx. 7 or 8 hours to do the complete cab trim molding. That is doing most everything by hand. I am sure it would go alot faster with some air/power tools. I plan on trying to find a tailgate band and doing it as well.

PS. I haven't forgot to get you the paint code for the gray, I'll ask next time I'm up there.

If you are careful, you can get the emblems out and back in by bending the tabs.

Thanks for the info.

Not real worried about the paint codes. Just wondering how far off the factory steel gray it is. I am thinking of doing the gray on my interior when it gets painted. Still up in the air about that one.

Honestly I'm not real sure on the comparison of the colors. I don't really know what the factory gray looks like.
