How about that? Looks like a full 1/2t panel body

I don't know why GMC didn't lend out some of it's engines to Chevy back then.

Some heavier series Chevy's did use the GMC V6 and GMC toroflow diesel, specs from a 1969 brochure.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Right, later on in time they finally did.

But they should have started much earlier in the 50's.

Although you could get a 4-53 Detroit in a Chevy in the later part of the '60-'66 Mediums but yet not in a GMC. That was one example that was backwards, lol.

I agree, GMC's pretty much concentrated on building straight sixes in the 50's, GMC 270's were pretty close in performance to Chevy 261, but the GMC 302 would have been a nice deal in a Chevy.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Yeah, I figured he meant the big inlines

503

factorystock 04-26-2020 10:01 PM

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Like Bob B correctly mentioned, Chevy didn't even offer a truck line large enough in the 50's that could handle the size of a big GMC straight six.

special-K 04-27-2020 08:50 AM

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

I showed the 503 to emphasis that GMC had real truck engines and that was the top dog 6. But they did make great smaller engines that would have served the Chevys well had they used them. More cubes as well as "truck-built" design. Such as the 270

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

As well as the 302-6 as mentioned earlier.

The 420 just has the lowest 1st gear ratio (ever) at 7.05:1

A couple more nice ones I found recently. More colors

This old milk truck turned keg truck has been sitting out front of a restaurant along US40 in the mountains west of Cumberland, MD for years. I was up visiting my mom and my brother was on his way up from down by Cumberland for the afternoon. Mom got a call from him and it turns out he dropped his driveshaft and wish sitting right across from the truck. I went on a road rescue mission and after years of driving by the truck I got a chance to take some pictures. We have a sign & trick painter up that way who at one time dig customs and drag cars all across the country. Think early funny cars, gassers, and front engine rails. It turns out he lettered and pinstriped this thing. Can't hardly see it, but he does great work and still at it. Must be 80 or so yet.

Rare Long Nose Single Axle.

Single stack, probably a 6-71.

Chrome package to boot.

Quite the truck.

Some nice 9500's.

At first glance it looks like the first two pictures are of the same, but they are different trucks.

I don't know if I've posted this before but, here is a farm my dad was working on in the summer of 99 repairing storm damage to a grain bin. In this photo are my fathers 88 Cheyenne C3500 with a Knaphide bed in municipal yellow with a saddle interior, my fathers 66 Series 70 with a GMC 401 big block V6 and a Midwest TelElect digger derrick body on it (nicknamed Oscar like the sesame street character), a 1973 P&H T-300 30 ton crane and, my fathers personal ride back then a 1980 Chevrolet Silverado 20 4x4.

I'm not sure what I have shown already and not yet. If seeing twice, I hope you enjoy twice
