These early Jimmy Diesels are the greatest trucks
|
Re: GM Semis
Watddyno--------Diesels don't get that hot under the hood like old gas jobs that would get vapor lock. But you probably heard of cool-air kits. This is an early version developed maybe 60 years ago .
|
Re: GM Semis
there diesels i dont think they ever had vapourlock , i was more thinking of the engine sucking in the hot oilvapours out of the underhood filter and running wild

Re: GM Semis
I think it's simple old cooler air makes more power. It gets as hot in the East as it does in the West.

Re: GM Semis
i think this is a Brigadier. 30K original miles and a tandem to boot.

Re: GM Semis
Right, it is a Brigadier.
Kind of looks like it could have an Auto Trans. Not the best info. Besides no info on the Trans (a possible deal killer for me), I'm wondering what a 9.0 V-6 Diesel would be ? Sure is in great condition though. |
Re: GM Semis
6V92 would be 552 cubic inches, and International sold their 9 liter V-8 in the 70-80s and it's forerunner was the DV 550.
But Bill, Why are you scared of an Allison ? The tank, if stainless, is worth as much as the truck. You could sell it to a water hauler or a northern farmer to store sap for maple syrup ! |

All my Trucks, cars as well, have to have a Clutch, lol. I've told the story a couple of times through the years that when I was driving back in the '70's, Automatic trucks were starting to surface. The mechanic told me that they may just be getting some in, in the near future. And I told him that "That's the day I'll quit" !! ...and I was serious, lol. I've been shifting gears now for 44 years straight and have no plans on changing. I've actually passed on buying some Pick-ups that I would had otherwise bought because they were Autos. Bill |
Re: GM Semis
automatic gearboxes for trucks realy start to take off in europe too
they range from the real slushboxes to electrinicly shifted gearboxes with electric clutches biggest reason for them to do so are the stricter emmision rules , if they keep the engine in the optimum range all the time the gasses are cleaner too and trucks here even the ones driving international do a lot more stop and go compared to the coast to coast trucks in the states |

Re: GM Semis
The long awaited pictures of the V12 in an MH 9500 113" BBC are on the ATHS forum since yesterday. It's a V12T besides. Perhaps someone here can grab and repost the pictures here.

That's some truck!

Re: GM Semis
Dan,
I haven't been over to the ATHS site in so long, I had trouble finding it, lol. I well remember the debate that some say they were Factory. I've actually talked about it on here a time or two through the years. What is the up-to-date bottom line? Do you think it is possible that there were some Factory built? |

Wasn't a listed option in '70

Re: GM Semis
Not sure what years, but the 12V-71 was available for sure in the GMC Astro (Cab-Over).
No 6-71 available in a Chevy 90 in 1970 ?? I'll have to double-check some of my books on that one. Bill |
Re: GM Semis
Nice looking early tractor above, by the way.
Looks like it's restored to new. |
Re: GM Semis
I scanned a brochure from the '70 truck show in Anaheim California.
No real idea. I wasn't born yet |
Re: GM Semis
Just checked in one of my Chevy books, dated 1970, and like I figured, the Single Axle, Tandem Axle, Extended Cab and Cab-Overs all have Detroits listed available, some 6-71's some 8-71's as well as the Cummins 230, 250, 270 and 335 in certain models.
...no fault of yours Kool. Bill |
Re: GM Semis
By the way, that is Extended Hood, not "Extended Cab" as I mistakenly wrote above.
(Edit won't work after a certain time, lol) Bill |
Re: GM Semis
About 12V-71's in the Astro 95/Titan 90: I was told they were a special order option '69 to '71, and became an RPO around 1972. Never a factory install in an MH or General, but it looks like it can be done!
|
Re: GM Semis
I've got pretty good yearly coverage on the brochures from GMC and Chevy, and I've never seen any listing for the MH 113" BBC conventional with V12. Typically, in that era, a engine upgrade would be installed in a distributer shop, so that full warranty would be in effect. Plus I have the sales data books for 1966 and 1974. The Astro with V-12 was officially Model # DP 9702 and had limited options for that year, only a 150" wheelbase according to my '74 sales data book . Noticed the weight listed with all liquids, but minimum fuel at about 16,500 lbs, plus or minus.

Pretty impressive Rollback. I see it has a couple of upgrades added to it.

Thought you would like it.

Re: GM Semis
That rollback is nice

Re: GM Semis
Sweet rollback!! Have been thinking about doing the fuel tank like that on "Rusty". since I have a pair of them.

What years did GMC make the conventional, modern looking over the road trucks?

Generals and Bison were class 8s and were built 77-88
|
Re: GM Semis
What I didn't like about the General, is that it "killed" off the GMC 9500 Long Nose. Still had a pretty good run of about 11 years though.
