So I've been able to directly upload images from my pewter to the site and the site has been automatically resizing them for me just like the old days. Is that not working for you?

Boy and I fought a leaky intake on his S10. Different reasons but same deal with the smokin and crap. While I have never had to use any kind of pucky around the intake ports, we ended up using a very light coat of gasket maker. I tried the aviation grade permatex stuff but the best bet I think was the 1194. It's the goo we use to seal our two stroke engine cases. Fuel proof! Yeller's still lookin sharp Chip!

Don't even know what that is. I always did the resize in advance 5 at a time thing. No workie for me. I'm quite certain it's me.

(Crosses fingers) Seems to have made it better. This motor's been weird since we had it done 6-7 years ago. Hell, I dunno. We'll see. I tried the skim coat trick the first time, I don't even think it touched it. We've run this same intake all this time, I think it's been a long term thing.

Thanks, John! Boppa gets guys stoppin' him all the time about it. Interestingly, a lot of 'em are pro body guys, it seems. Which is, I guess, a nice compliment.

I looked over your build again. It looks like we had done the same thing but in different time zones. I enjoyed your build. I hope to shoot some color in the near future. Winter here in Fl. is our rainey season. But it better than the snow. keep it coming and good luck.

Yep, just did the heads. No oil pressure. Apparently the overheating was worse than we thought.

We could yank it and do rings and bearings, but we'll be 8 bills in and still basically in the same spot.

Uncle Matt has the hookup with a friend that runs a salvage with 5.3 takeouts for $1500 complete. And, then we'll need all the tagalong stuff. But, Boppa is getting ready to have surgery on both eyes, and he's basically retired. And, it's colder'n Old Billy Ned here. So, it's just gonna haveta wait 'til we get it together. We'll see.

Chant with me now.....LSX, LSX, LSX! It's so easy to do and can be done cheaper than the price of a quality rebuild on a small block. Just don't get caught up in all the mod's or they can get expensive quick.

Well, LE, I read the whole thread. This is quite a saga. I feel like I've known you and Boppa for years. The good news is, he probably wouldn't be driving Old Yeller right now with the weather and all, and hopefully you'll have him in business for spring.

The LS route sounds nice, but it comes with its own learning curve. I'd keep the cost and the timeline to a minimum. I'd disassemble and inspect the lower end, then clean the block. Check for cracks, and deck and crank bore straightness. Then decide what to do. If you have 882 heads now (or 993s), they're 76 cc, so decking and head resurfacing are not a problem. Gen 1 parts are pretty cheap, and all of your bling would still fit.

We had a bit of a discussion about this last night. It SOUNDS good, but Boppa knows NOTHING about this LS bidness, (and he's PO'd and frustrated enough) and I know just enough to get myself in trouble. We are the kings of the little niggling problems, as has been well documented here. It'd be different if it was my truck and my problem and my time in my garage, but it ain't, and the std. SBC stuff works. If we yank it, it's down for a week and back up with known good systems. I really just want the damn thing to run right so he can enjoy it. Anyone got an "old reliable" oil covered, smoking, no compression 283/Glide lying around?;)

The good thing is, he's not using it now, and it's too damn cold to mess with. We've got another couple months to decide.

Gonna be sweet! They have some good info on the trucks show on the power block tv. You can watch all the episodes powerblocktv.com They did a swap on a 72. Good luck. I'll be tuned in.

I'm glad you went that direction. I had all the same concerns as you before I did mine. Now, I will never waste my time building an old school smallblock again. That's right, I said waste my time, you'll be amazed how easy this is.

Well, Boppa had a bad day. A serial drunk hit him doing 80in a 35. He's ok his dog did not make it. Yeller is totaled. Thanks to everyone for all the support and well wishes.

Glad Boppa is okay, sorry to hear about his dog not making it. Pets and trucks like these are also family members in my book. Will be missed.
