Re: tuba trucks
You could say showroom fresh, but that would not do the truck justice. Nicer by far from anything back in the day, better materials and a lot of hard work by guys and gals. Never dissapointed with your crew and the gems brought up to a standard few can match...

This 51 Chevy was a multi colored, patched up family heirloom that needed quite a bit to freshen it up. We overhauled the mechanicals and unified the color with some patina work. Added new bed, tires and upholstery... |
Re: tuba trucks
The stripe around the cab really sets it off.
Clean and just right, very cool. |

Occasionally a truck comes in that is a basic work or farm truck. Most of the time we upgrade with V8 power and overdrive transmission plus we might add air and disc brakes, power steering and a sound system... the normal improvements. But once in a great while the owner wants it to be just like the family purchased it from the dealership. This 1976 grecian bronze C-10 long bed is exactly that. We did cheat a little by adding power brakes and steering and a 3-point seatbelt, but other than that its bone stock. Overhauled 250 six and 3 speed trans, powder coated complete newly built suspension and reworked the interior. She rides and drives showroom fresh and looks the part. |
Re: tuba trucks
That is sweet Clem.
|
Re: tuba trucks
Simple, yet stunning. No need for that square to have chrome trim, lowered, or fancy wheels when it looks as good as that.
|
Re: tuba trucks
Great work on the square, Clem! That is the only "orange" I could ever consider using for one of my personal trucks. Really digging the seat. Is the steering wheel OE for a '72? Does not look like any of the '76 models I have ever seen.
|
Re: tuba trucks
Better than new. Great looking truck as usual for your team Clem.
|
Re: tuba trucks
Man I like that clemdaddy, looks superb. :)
|
Re: tuba trucks
Ah, the memories. My dad had a gold 1976 two wheel drive straight six, three on the tree, no power nothing. That truck is what I learned on and survived my dad's tutelage... Great job Clem and the team!!!

We got an update from Austin on the '63 GMC E-10. It is moving under it's own power. They still have the instruments and powder coated covers under the hood to finish but it's alive. |
Re: tuba trucks
Your shop is definitely on point as high end professional workmanship.

Seems lately that Tuba Trucks is feeling the blues. We have 4 blue trucks in the shop right now. It was 5 but one left earlier this morning. The blue Cameo just got painted yesterday and is now basking in the sun. |
Re: tuba trucks
Very Pretty work!
|
Re: tuba trucks
Those blues are rather beautiful.
Stellar work as alwys from Tuba Trucks. I was contemplating a color change from my Red (paint already purchased) to blue on that basis. However, my other co tended is that soft green, not sure what it is called but they always look so grandpa to me. |
Re: tuba trucks
Mr Clem, outstanding work.

Hopefully a help-wanted post will be ok with the forum. I can't think of a better way to reach exactly the people we need since everyone on here has an interest in old trucks.
If you are willing to relocate, I can help out with expenses. If you're retired and have always wanted to be part of something fun. If you are tired of working hard and not feeling good about where it's going. If you are passionate about working on cool old cars and trucks. If you're willing to try something new. If you feel like you are a pretty good mechanic with some old-school skills... Please PM me and we can discuss a job opportunity and I will get back to you with details. You can call or email. Sorry no texts. By the way, google Fayetteville, AR, it's a great place to live. Thanks, Clem Johnson clem@tubatrucks.com 479-442-9286 |
Re: tuba trucks
Like some others over the years, I stumbled across this thread...and wow, so good to see great people doing great work. Thank you!

Just about finished with the 63 short bed. Has a RamJet 350 and 4L60 with 355 gears and posi. Still needs to get to the muffler shop for full length pipes with electric cutouts and we're struggling a bit with the door seals but other than that, this truck is ready for it's new home. A big shout out to the Tuba guys for another job well done. Here's a few pics till we get it completed.

Last fall this 65 came to us for body-work and paint. The chassis had already been built and was a complete roller. But the shell of the cab needed a lot of attention... cab corners, rockers and inners, roof skin, door skins, lots of floor patches, radio panel, drip rails... Just about a total rebuild of the cab. Our customer wanted it nice enough that the floor looked stock and will only have a rubber floor mat covering the front half. The underside is sprayed with a bed-liner undercoat.

Once we got to paint it made all that work worth it. The original dark green color flowed out nice after 6 coats of acrylic enamel. The interior color of non-metallic fawn really compliments the dark green exterior and we added a little matting agent for the dash to reduce glare. Now it's on to the front clip.

Re: tuba trucks
The 63 and the green 65 are both spectacular. Is the 65 paint code 505?

I notice your truck is that same green. I like the photoshop work, that will look great. What is your plan on paint? |

We are working on a 48 custom cab that is a red and black two-tone. 300 horse 350 chevy with sniper and a 700R, mustang 2, power rack, 4-link rear and coil overs all around.
I know it's not year specific to the 60-66, which is definitely my favorite, but I post it here anyway. |
Re: tuba trucks
Were you trying to make it extra shiny.....you done good.......all that reflection it's hard to see it.

You are spoiling us Clem !
Three gorgeous truck reports in as many days, well less really. They are all, lovely, and I would have a hard time selecting one only. Depending on all things being equal, I may have to come inspect for myself in August or September. |
Re: tuba trucks
Thanks Rian,
We're looking forward to your visit. It's been a couple of years since the last time you got over here. Kim stashed you back some bottles of Louisiana Gold. |

My wife's new car. A 1956 Plymouth Suburban 2-door wagon. A nice original car that has great lines and in great shape. The only problem is it has a column shifted 3-speed trans which she is not fond of. So, the plan is to find a donor car that has the automatic that can be switched for the manual. With the donor I would get the cross member, pedal hanger, steering column and dash shifter plus anything else required. This is a pretty rare car and though it's off topic for us truck guys, it is a gem... meet Rosie.
|
Re: tuba trucks
What a great find. I'd take it any day. How many miles?
|
Re: tuba trucks
Very cool wagon for sure. I'm looking forward to the updates you have planned.
|
Re: tuba trucks
That is one really nice ride and it sure puts a smile on mama's face. I'd say you did extremely well, as usual.
|
Re: tuba trucks
That is a beauty Clem.
I have no idea, but Steve Snyder at Snyders Junkyard in Pueblo, Colorado could be your guy, he is on Facebook, or call him, he has an amazing inventory. I hope to meet Rosie in person by month end or in September, with Dennis if all comes together. |

Tuba Trucks just finished a 1963 Custom Cab short-bed with all kinds of computers and all the complications, that come with them.. but it's done. Or so we hope. I love carbs and points, it makes sense to me, maybe throttle body and HEI buts that's it. Nothing else really makes sense. I know... Old School, but what the hell. We should set our limits to what we know and do it the best we can. So, here it is. The limits are the customer is cool with his truck and we here at Tuba are cool with it, so, is that a good build? Hopefully so. We are a restoration company, there are plenty or of shops that do LS conversions and bagged drops but that is not us, we restore to factory original, or close to it. So, while this is not what we do... at least I think our guys did a good job of doing what we don't do.

Re: tuba trucks
Having walked around this truck over the weekend while the Arkansas Razorbacks kicked butt vs the Cincinnati Bearcats and Clem was watching the game, I can just say that this is a magnificent build.
Tuba Trucks do build Beautiful. Well done Team. |
