amen to that Nate. Stuck an unvented cap on my truck when I let the original at a gas station. Here are the results. Reglued, change gas cap and no more problems.

Time for a rear mounted tank and the glue will stick and you won't get brain damage from sniffing glue everytime you drive your truck:lol:

Ok, who has the brain damage, think it is me, "get high from sniffing gas" is what I meant to say, joke is on me now.

Not worried about the brain cells--lost most of those back in the 60's..but I cant have anything hurt my truck. Rear mounted gas tank sounds like the way to go.

Got my new guage cluster in so they all are functional finally. Also put in a 70s radio back in the dash and ditched my aftermarket cd player that was mounted to the bottom of the dash.

It (the re-glued headliner) fell off again in the 90+ heat this afternoon.
No fuel leaks/vent leaks detected using my personal sniffer.

Anybody know who makes the best headliner/trim set up?

I already posted a WTB on the Forum.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got the headliner coming.
Thanks, Bro.

Now...for the trim.

Anyone have any, "...stay away from this brand" advice?

Dialed in the timing and drove it down the block, felt good thinking about finishing it and not selling her.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I use only 3-M brand upholstery adhesive on Foo-Foo cans , it's good stuff .

Never comes loose , NEVER .

Some time ago I found a nice vintage stainless steel gas cap and put it on my truck then hit the Freeway ~ a couple miles down the road the gas tank began to buckle & collapse due to vacuum as the dang cap wasn't vented ! good thing I knew what to do the *instant* I heard my freshly re lined & re painted tank make noise .

Back to the old , chipped original painted cap , no worries .

:chevy:

I'm supposed to go get another shock mount and install it to - day but after yet another 20 hour day yesterday , I'm beat and sore , maybe I'll wait for the one Dano found for me .

I hate driving and feeling the R.R. Wheel bobbling as I go .

Not safe either ~ I must drive slower than I usually do .

Maybe I'll suit up and head to the junkyard later .

well in post # 7164 i was a happy camper, well we had a storm last night, and the wind blew 80 mph, and the shingles on the back side of my house are now in the yard, in the street , and all over old dollor...they hit it several places and scratched the top, hood ,drivers side door, and bed by the spair.

we had 1 " of rain small hail, and realy bad winds, two storms blew in about 30 min. apart. here are a few pic's of the paint.....

Real sorry to hear about this Dollor. The storms lately are pretty scary, hang in there. I have minor earthquake damage up at my cabin, so none of us are safe. But from the sound of the storms, I'll sit here and wait for a little shake or two...LOL

Sorry, ole dollar. Maybe you're not supposed to sell her?

I painted this morning.
One panel.

Tractor Supply Matte Black on the pass bed side.
Maybe one more panel tomorrow.

Turning the RAT 20-footer into a RAT 10-footer for $30/gal.

;)

Got my air conditioner to work after replacing the expansion valve, dryer, etc..Hopefully the freon won't leak all out. This was at about medium fan speed.

you know i think you are right about not selling ole dollor...i am really thinking of keeping the truck. if the guy that is supposed to come by today don't take it, i think i will keep it... the noise is fixed, and i can always fix the damage the wind caused last night..

i have used the black tractor supply paint on a trailer a few years back and it turned out real good. good luck on your paint job...truck is looking good...

thats not to bad , but discharge temp should be at least 44 deg. were you parked or driving when you checked the temp.

It was parked in my driveway...No air going through the condenser...I wanted to do it while driving but of course that is not going to work.

Re : To-day's Fun !

I drove it to my favorite junkyard and bought both rear lower shock mounts , plus all four correct shock bolts & Hwe. , then I popped the Derby Cover off the 6 jug rear end to find an April 1967 dated 3/27 ratio (11/41 tooth count) final drive ! sweet .

Uh , not quite , the mesh pattern was spot on but they'd been running it low on oil and it looked like the original oil fill , dribbled out like water and the ring gear teeth faces were all brinneled so it prolly hums .

Dammit .

first time you get a chance check it driving down the road and see what the temp reads. it might cool better with a little air cooling the condenser...

I want a higher ratio so I'm not stuck at 55 MPH when I travel .

Truth be told , I rarely work my truck , I have me , myself and I in it most of the time , maybe my lunchbox , maybe a tool box and some old car / Moto parts .

Replaced the broken shock mount ~

Pix attached . not sure why I can't put text between each picture

Pic. # 1 shows the eye ripped out .

Pic # 2 shows me holding the new/used shock mount next to the bad one , Pic. # 3 shows the job all done , took about 35 minutes all told .

The DPO replaced the rear shocks and discarded the original hardware and fitted Metric bolts that were too thin so the shock was able to move a bit , in time this wallowed out the mount's eye and I ripped it out tearing up those back roads near Sequoia a few weeks ago (Google Ca. Rt. 245 , it's nice)

Then I got the new/used junkyard mounts , I grabbed not only the mounts but the big nuts that hold them on and all the shock bolts ~ this is why I don't patronize regular junkyards , they're sloppy and never save the hardware , all too often DPO's / DPM's are clueless and discard the better quality correct original hardware for shiny new junk .

Pretty much everything they touched on this poor old truck , they either did wrong or damaged , sometimes I think they didn't like working on it and deliberately damaged or screwed up everything they touched  .

So far , the sintered steel exhaust donut hasn't leaked one bit , I'm well pleased as it's blown out quite a few since I bought this rig and the underhood puttering noise irritates me .

It rides nice and tight again , just so make sure I flew it across a couple intersections with rain control trenches and it was fine .

Sorry for the crappy pix , I was using my iPad thingie .

I put a seat cover on. The seat was re-done by the previous owner in bright red, so decided to change the look a little to suit my tastes.
