?? Do you mean the engine and tranny don't quite close up the gap ?? .

If so, 99 % of the time the Torque Converter isn't quite properly settled in on all three of it's splines.....

Make sure the pilot bearing was removed from the back of the crank shaft if it had a standard transmission. Spin and push in the torque converter until you feel three clicks. Bolt the trans to the motor before you bolt the converter to the flex plate. The converter and the flex plate should have 1/2 to 3/4 inch gap between them. You should have to pull the converter out towards the flex plate to eliminate the gap.

" You should have to pull the converter out towards the flex plate to eliminate the gap. "

THIS !~ if you cannot easily spin the Torque Converted by one finger when the engine is mated to the bell housing , the T.C. likely isn't properly settled .

Still in the process of getting my motor cleaned up and put back together. But I got the valve covers painted, they were chrome but had a lot of surface rust. Painted the oil pan and timinng cover. And buddy was nice enough to sand blast my intake. I cleaned it with some degreaser and tooth brush.
Debating on leaving it as is or spraying with VHT Aluminum color for a clean look and ease of cleaning. Any thoughts?
Under the intake it is stamped 1976. Is this the year it was cast?

Anyone have any luck painting an intake with VHT rattle cans?

Engine Painting

Yes ;

Decent quality Foo-Foo can paint works fine on engines and intake manifolds *IF* you take the time to prep it correctly .

This means scuffing off all the old paint rust and grease oil , takes time but is well worth the effort .

Did front brakes, springs, shocks, brake lines, MC, booster, flip kit, c notch, and mouse removal.
Purchasing new rear leaf springs because the ones on here are extremely tired and the flip kit dropped the truck 8 or 9 inches instead of 5. haha
Good thing we didn't do the 2" drop shackles or the hitch wouldve been on the ground.

Was thinking about installing a one piece glass I have for a cleaner look. But love the slide glass to remove the heat from inside. Decided to black out the silver finish to see if that looks better. I may be keeping this one in there for now.

Corrected my hood pin to latch alignment issue by shimming the lower latch out a bit. Left the gap filler panels off for now - thinking about grill inserts before I reinstall

I went ahead and pulled the engine and transmission. Got them seperated. Going to get the engine bay all cleaned up and ready for install. Surprisingly the radiator was full and the coolant was bright green. Hopefully it passes the pressure test. Going to use some kind of rust inhibitor black paint for the inner fenders and core support. And try to shine up the fire wall. I think it will look good with the newly sealed and painted motor.

Not sure why some pics turn themselves sideways. but y'all get the point.

Thanks. It was the first engine I have ever pulled. I have been making a lot of progress lately. Really getting excited about fixing my dad's truck. My goal is to have it driving by April for the Lonestar Roundup to cruise down a local street here in town called congress where everyone cruises what they got.

Changed ends in the garage. Going to take a break from bodywork and sheetmetal and do some suspension work.

Got it up in the air at a good working height, ready to scrape who knows how many years of gunk and grime off and replace, refresh and repaint everything.

I'm nervous just looking at that pic. I'm doing the same thing you are right now. I have altitude sickness so I keep it a little closer to the ground. Previously down in the picture before your post. My truck on rims while pulling the engine.

I put the caps/rings back on the wheels. Did a quicky spray can respray on the top so it looked decent again (fixed rust from back window when it was pulled/replaced). Added the CST badges and after I took them off 10 years ago, I put the C10 fender badges back on, although I don't like the factory spot, I moved them a bit :D
