Didn't do any thing to the truck per say but I did pick up an Edelbrock intake and a Holley carb from my brother n law. Then put an electric choke on it. What a pain that was with Holleys photo copied instructions that were so dark I could barley read them

I was out in the pouring rain trying to track down a windshield leak I had had fixed a month ago. Around here if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. While I was at it and had the cowl off I reattached my antenna. Same guys that "fixed" my windshield broke off the connection. Saw that I really need to replace my rear window seal, may invest in a slider while I am at it. Originally, I had set out to clean up my front brakes and repack my wheel bearings. That's what I get for thinking...

I almost forgot that I took a lawnmower shutoff cable, cut it in half and tied it to measure with a carrick bend and now I can slide my seat back and forth for the first time in 17 years.

Installed inner and outer grills, light bezels, bumper, and front lens.
Snaggletooth no more.

Next is new rubber floor, arm rests, dash pad, peddle pads, crank doughnuts, dome light, and seat cover. The visors are perfect.

Replaced some rotted gas lines and started putting on my new chrome bumper and started rubbing out the old paint. What a difference with a bit of elbow grease can make on the old faded paint.

Took mother in law for a little ride in HER truck tonight. She asked my wife what I had planned for the nite, the cruise inn or what, and she wanted to go riding for a little while tonite.

Couldnt tell her no.She has been the banker on the truck.

Her and the father in law used to ride around on Sat. afternoons in the truck and I guess she had him on her mine tonite.Father in law passed away suddenly back in Feb.2000.He was planning on retiring in Oct. of 2000.He was going to do a complete frame off but we didnt make it.

Sorry for being long winded.

I have been looking all over the Houston and surrounding areas for a new bed. The one that I have as can bee seen in previous pictures was a little crumpled and the floor looked like swiss cheese.

We took a little vacation to Stratford, OK last week and on the OK City craigslist up there, found this:

http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/h...705_110451.jpg

http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/h...705_144217.jpg

Guy up there had bought it for his project and then wrecked the truck before getting to use it.

Best part...... $100

Problem..... getting it back to Texas. I guess that is a good problem.

Got the body panels hung and aligned. All but the hood. I need a buddy for that one..
Just experienced what all the fuss is about on new after mark parts! New front fenders and the pass side stuck out at the bottom 3/8" by the rocker. "Can't shim that". Even put the old fender back just check, and fit like a glove. Oh well that's all done now.
Couple flaws yet to touch up, hopefully headed to paint in August... :):):)

Seriously nice.

Can someone possibly post a link to where in the Forum I might find a thread re: switching over to disks in the rear for a '71 5-lug? Maybe a "how to" on the disk e-brake set up I've seen?

Thanks.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Do you have a disc setup already or are you wanting to know what it takes just to go rear disc with an e brake. The next question is do you want an actuated type caliper (integrated ebrake) or a drum ebrake with disc brake (like a lot of the newer vehicles). I've done both and could answer some questions.

Btw... That looks a lot like my rear setup. :). Mine has the McGaughy 13" rear actuated setup on it.

I don't have the disk set up. When I rebuilt the drums, everything looked pretty good in there, so I just changed out the shoes. I can't seem to get a good adjust on the e-brake.
And, I'm running a pretty drilled disk up front. So, I thought (against the commonly held feeling about "not needing" disks back there on our trucks), that I'd do a disk swap and some sort
of an e-brake set-up actuated by the stock cable.... all at the same time.

While I can pull the rear end out, if necessary, and I can pull all the shock and other suspension parts, drive shaft, etc., I've never been inside the axel housing. So, I'd be really interested
in what you all think would be a good set up, the cost based on the parts and what I may have to sub out.

Thanks again for any help, tips, or direction on this part of the project. I figured I'd start pulling the parts together while RAT's in paint jail.

:waah:

Not that it matters, but here's the front.

Busted off 2 out of 6 studs while dropping the exhaust. Then had to grind off one exhuast manifold bolt while pulling off those. Found another rotted expansion plug too. Good times.

Replaced temp gauge sending unit and tore into my wiring to figure out why it still wasn't working. 3 hours and a ton of new wiring and split duct and still no working temp gauge. But the wiring sure looks a lot nicer now!

While I'm pondering a rear disk set up and waiting while she's in paint jail, I stole another member's paint scheme and plopped it on my truck
with P-Shop.

The "new color" on mine will be a little darker, and more to the gray side of silver, I think...More the color of the spokes on the wheels.

But, I needed something to do without pressing "Buy It Now" for a $600 disk set-up that would have to sit in boxes for at least two months
while I wait for RAT to come home.

did my floor braces this weekend and ready to put the cab on the frame to do the rest of the body work, also looking at front end and rear end components such as disc brakes all around and 5 bolt conversion and power steering boxes then maybe in the garage it goes. check out my thread for details and picture on my project!

Had to use a 36" monkey wrench to get the center cap off the wheel. Halfway through, as little red pieces kept flaking off as it was slowly coming out, I realized that some son of a motherless goat had loc-tited every single thread for the entire 1/2" or so of threads. Looked like a big chipmunk had been gnawing on it when I was done.

Also realized that a 1/4"-drive, 7/16" socket will, if asked very nicely by my sledgehammer, fit the keyed lugnut well enough to get it off the wheel.
