Re: What did you do to your truck today?

So far today, on the '65 Daily Driver project.-I've got the front end lowered about 2 1/2" with a different set of springs. Only took about 1/2 hour, since didn't have to knock loose any ball joints or anything. Just unbolted the shocks, removed upper control arm nuts, lowered spindle down as far as brake hose would let me, removed the springs, installed new springs and bolted it back up. Easiest I've ever lowered the front of one of these..
After lunch, going to relocate the fuel tank, run an electrical check with the new steering column hooked up to check turn signals, horn and hazard lights.

May get around to actually putting the hood on and making it look like a truck again!, LOL.

That's the way I did it! I think it is due to the 90 degree boots, they won't slide back over the terminal.

My speed shop guy say crimp the end on, then slide the boot over. Will give that a try. I have lots of beer on hand just in case!

Isn't that the way you already tried it? get some wires w/the boots on them instead, in any case lots of beer will solve the problem Eah...Vernski:b69:

Very nice. Did you make your own lines or were they Pre-made? If Pre-made, where did you get them?

Did a little mock-up to try and decide what color to paint the intake manifold. Spent hours cleaning and wire brushing, then painting... Only to realize that I torqued down the heads without using non-hardening sealer! Going to fix that on Saturday and paint some more pieces.

The air cleaner will match the final blue color on the engine. Those are temp v/c the ones going on it are Mickey Thompsons and will have the flutes and the M/T in the same color blue.

Didn't do anything to my truck but I did get my compressor hooked up so I can do stuff for my truck. I had the wires hooked up wrong in the plug I put together but got it figured out. It's in my laundry room so I only had to build an 8 foot long cord for it. Being single has it's advantages. :metal:

lowslow64 - I think I'm in love with your truck...

joedoh - can't stop looking at your truck - s w e e t with attitude...

rideblueCO - very nice bit of work on those lines - please come do mine.

Snowbound - did you try some rubbing alcohol to get the "rubber" parts to slip around better for you? It should flash dry fairly fast without residue.

Busy Beaver today. On the left headlight the top adjustment screw was broken. Actually the plastic piece the screw screws into was broken. I had ordered 4 new ones from LMC they came today. So I got the tools back out and replaced them. It was actually easier than I thought it would be.

I should've ordered new springs for the headlights I didn't think to so next time I put together an order I'll try to remember and order new springs.

Now I need to find a shop that can adjust them properly. I'll do the old shade tree trick tonight using the garage door.

Years ago I was putting a 220volt air compressor in my garage, just behind where I needed the electrical plug was a wall that ran perpendicular and there was a 220 plug for a dryer. Since we had a gas dryer it was not used. So I drilled a hole into the garage wall and then through the perpendicular studs to the box where power was inside the utility room. fished the wires, set the new box in the garage, put a blank cover on the outlet box in the utility room. Just as I was getting ready to turn the power back on, my wife flushed the upstairs toilet........water gushed out from under the wall in the utility room,,,,,,,,I had drilled through the PVC drain pipe for the upstairs bathroom. You should have seen it, when I cut out the hole to fix the pipe the wiring went right through the PVc pipe via the 2 holes I had drilled in it, and of course it leaked. Never did live that one down. Your reference to a 8' extension cord made me think of this. Kieth

I got my rear end blasted and coated with rust treater, replaced one seal so far and screwed up a spring holder on a backing plate. Good thing I have my old rear end to get parts off of. I wish I would have figured out what the gear ratio is before I took it apart I'm dying to know. Oh well I can wait till tomorrow. I need to take the brake parts off my other rear end, clean up all the springs and stuff, change the other seal, paint it with por15 and I think thats it. I'm still waiting for my trailing arms and wiring harness then I can get it all together.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well, I went and looked at the ultimate add on for my truck... A 5 bay garage with a paint booth and a sandblasting booth!

If the guy agrees on the price I may be stopping work on the truck and the falcon and moving them to the shop after I do some cleanup work, repair the huge compressor and run lines, add more lighting and paint the place. I think the other smart thing to do would be to go ahead and buy the 65 1 ton truck I looked at last week, and turn it into a car hauler.

I plan on renting out booth time and bay time to help cover the payments, which by the way, would be so cheap I could actually pay them by picking up sand blasting jobs.

No pics of the place yet. Keep your fingers crossed!

Steven

Top right side of axle housing will have a series of letters / numbers, that will denote your axle gear ratio and if it is, or was posi....!
or you can count the pinion tooth count and the ring gear count and divide the pinion into the ring count...

Spent some time at a local muffler shop getting a new cat installed on my civic and talked with the owner of this 56 Bel Air. He has done a lot of them. After he left the shop owner was telling me that the owner of the 56 was complaining about the new exhaust costing $280. The shop owner was running 3" dual galvanized pipe (one whole piece each to the mufflers) to the Summit turbo mufflers (provided by 56 owner), then to chrome tips. You ask me, that was one incredible deal!

Car was a complete frame off and has an IROC engine in it. The front clip was off. The owner trailered it there and I saw that he only had two lugs per tire installed and paint on some tires. Those Cragar stars are his junk rims!

I have the pin and c clips out right now or I would count the teeth. When I get it buttoned up I'll figure it out. I also want to take the cover off the old rear end and find out what gears the PO put in there. I'm going to guess 4:50 or so plus he welded the spider gears so it's pretty much useless for me.

I finally got my parts from Performance Online so now I can start getting it together. My trailing arms are still at the coaters so thats going to slow me down. Plus I have school 3 days next week and test for my CDL Saturday after working 40 hours this week. I'm hoping to squeeze a few hours in on the truck tomorrow and Tuesday.

I got my 1966 parts truck 250ci started (1st time since I purchased it 4/4/13) and . . . I checked the compression! It's all good, so it will be going onto my 65 frame sometime within the next 2 weeks!
