Hello all, I'm new to the forum. Here are a few photos of my recently completed 7yr. restoration of my 1962 GMC with '60-'61 style hood. This Canadian built truck started life as a Chevy C-10, but I prefer the GMC grille & tailgate. GMC grille bolted right in place with no modifications, easy changeover. I do love the double hump Chevy dash however which flows very well with the 60-61 GMC style hood. This truck has it's original 283 so I modified the GMC V6 badges and made up my own custom 283 hood badges. Tried to keep it mostly stock looking with a few subtle modifications.

:welcoem: That's a neat looking ole truck, & it looks like you did a great job restoring it! Neat idea with the badges as well.

I'm usually over on the 67-72 threads.. but I had to say that's a good looking truck, and it's sparked a lot of memories.

I remember B/A quite well.
There was one on the corner of Dundas and Coxwell, where I grew up.
B/A disappeared in the '70s and that particular one became a FINA.

I was quite the menace in the day with my '66 Stingray..... bicycle.
And my friends and I would dare each other to run over the air hose line that would ring the service bell in the station.

The ultimate for us was riding up to the pump and quickly tripping the reset lever, setting the dials go back to zero before they could catch us.

We'd do it to these poor mechanics until their patience was done, and they'd chase us away..
Quite tame by todays standards no doubt.. but we pictured ourselves as quite the 7 year old criminals.

Again, great truck, I really like the long step, and the B/A paint job is great.
Thanks for the memories.

J.

Welcome to the forum. Beautiful truck! I must admit those emblems made me do a double take and read the entire text to see if they were authentic! Nice job.

Thanks for sharing your B/A memories! My Dad started with B/A in the mid '50s and stayed on with Gulf for a good 35 yrs in total. He was an auditor for some time and I used to check out the the cleanliness of the stations while he checked the books! I can so relate to the riding our bikes over the bell hose as a kid too. Lots of fun back in the day. When it came time to paint the truck I guess I just wanted to honour my Dad & a once great Canadian Oil Co. So I worked up the two tone white over green paint scheme & made up the Murphy's B/A Service logo for the doors. My Dad gave me the nick name Murphy as a kid when I used to get into trouble so I thought it was a perfect name for the truck. This is my idea of what a '60s B/A service station shop truck might have looked like. The truck is a blast to drive, only got a short time to drive it this past fall. It's in winter hibernation now so I hope I can get my Dad to take it for a spin in the spring.

Thanks very much for the welcome & comment. I am finding those who have seen the truck in person (those who know the US trucks well) are asking where did I find those hood badges! I honestly have never seen anyone else do that, I'm rather proud of them. I have always loved the US truck V6 badges and since I wanted to keep my original 283 I decided to try and modify the V6 badges. Rather easy actually, I just took a die grinder to grind down the 6, took a small amount of filler to smooth out the oval section then found some 283 emblems off a '57 Chevy car which seem to fit the oval area just right! Painted them up and fitted them to the hood in the same spot the V6 badges would have gone. I also used '55-'57 GMC truck cowl extension emblems for my truck since trying to find original Canadian "GMC 910" cowl emblems in good condition is almost impossible. I like the way the emblems match the tailgate logo anyway so I think they fit in well. One other modification I am quite proud of is using '58-'59 GM truck parking lamps & bezels in place of my original clear GMC parking lamp lenses. Until recently the '60-'61 GMC hood lenses were not being reproduced and trying to find originals that are not cracked is not easy around here anyway. So I thought I'd try the '58-'59 truck parking lamps. Again rather easy modification, did not even have to cut the hood mesh work to make them fit. Just had to make up some brackets to hold the parking lamps in place. I also prefer the amber colour lenses rather than the clear so that was a great fit as well. Bed sides are also skinned with 1/8" steel diamond plate to give the truck that commercial look I was going for, fits in well with the wrap around rear diamond plate bumper too.
Thanks.

Thanks! I'm quite proud of the 283 hood badges, makes people wonder if they were originally available.

Hey Thanks chevy-man5!
Not sure who reproduces them in the US but there is a place in Ontario Canada that is having the original clear 60-61 GMC hood lenses reproduced,
They run around $39.95 each Canadian + shipping. Not sure if they are made to order of if they are a stock item? If you want to send me a PM I can send you the website address & the contact info if you want to order a pair? Not sure I am allowed to post that kind of info in the forum as I am new on here. I know they do ship worldwide.
Thanks.
