Oh and even though I won't be picking it up until June or July I thought I would show you guys this hood I just bought from a friend a couple hours away. A 60 gmc hood for the 62! I have always loved the look of these beautiful ugly hoods and now I finally have one. I first really started liking them when I saw namloc's 60 gmc "the snortin bull".
Here's a pic of it, the guy bought the complete 60 burb for $500 cdn. But when he started digging into it he found the entire floor and roof were mostly rust along with most of the other panels. So unfortunately his only option was to part it out. |

Fender is looking great. The more I think about it, the more I think I may have to borrow your tailgate cable solution...

Started to tear in to the rear cab mounts/cab corners and no surprise lots of rust, here we go again. First I cut the cab corner off to gain access to the cab support. I started to cut out all the crap.

The metal guard that goes under the cab corner is done.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
And the door gap was horrible before. The door stuck out 1/4" past the cab corner and did not close well due to the cab being hit years ago and badly dented. I was able to make some relief cuts in the rear door pillar structure and bend it and weld back in place. Then I did some modifications to the door latch and now the door closes with the push of a finger and has nice gaps. Here's a video http://youtu.be/m1CdteSUyPk

Finally finished the bodywork on the fender. I just sprayed it with some old paint I had laying around to prevent surface rust. I also adjusted the torsion bars to the height I wanted.

TJ 's right about the fender mod. Very subtle custom work Nik.

Cut more out of the cab corner/support area and attempted to fit the new cab support but the stupid thing is made completely wrong, looks like they'll be getting a strongly worded email about their worthless junk they call quality parts. Last time I'll ever and I mean ever buy repop panels. See how the area that attaches to the inner rocker is the wrong angle. |

So I made a relief cut and bent it then filled the open area with new metal. It fits pretty good now
