Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
The generator was no more producing current below 3000rpm. I removed it and cleaned the commutator, some segments were full of small balls of ????
Replaced the brushes, one was burned and hard as stone. Running the engine at 3000rpm, the generator was lighting the engine compartment as daylight! Now a good charging from 750rpm and no more lights! |

Well I didn't do it, and it was not today, but it is my truck. My truck has been in Savannah, Ga. at my friends hot rod shop for the last few months getting some nice upgrades. I've encouraged my friend, my Son, and my brother, who all live in Savannah, to drive it any time they wanted to get some check out miles on it. My son decided to take to one of the local shows for fun and he said he couldn't believe how well people liked it. My truck got "Crowd Pleaser Award" and "Most Popular Car in The Show". I was in the hospital here in Atlanta when this happened and it definitely was a lift to my spirits. It was not a small show, BTW, and there were lots of very nice cars there.

I took mine to the Good Guys car show. parked next to a PERFECT 57 cameo. his was for sale for $79,000.
Whether or not he will get $79K or not , time will tell. It was perfect, but to me, wasn't worth it. |

murphys law that this would happen right after i paint the truck :(
contractor who was replacing part of my sidewalk did it. he was parked near my truck and when one of his guys opened the back door of his dump truck the bottom of his door did this. unbelievable. and they didnt even tell me it happened. they admitted it after i asked them the next day and they will pay to repaint it. with the one piece tilt hood, now the whole hood and both fenders have to be redone |

I hope you can get a perfect match on the color. |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
That sucks!
Be honest and tell it right away. That's what insurence companies are for... Hope you get the paint to match the rest! |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
im gonna figure it out tomorrow. not sure about using my car insurance or his business liability insurance. the paint shop custom made the color for me a few months ago by matching the glove box. maybe if im really lucky, the body guy who painted the truck still has some of the paint left. it was one gallon of paint.
matching the color is my big concern.. if the fenders dont match the doors perfectly, its not gonna be good enough |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Here in the Neherlands, the one that makes the damage pays for the damage.
So I think the business liability insurance must pay.... Hope the body guy has some paint left! |

take the truck and the company rep to a reputable body shop with a good painter. check the jobs that are in the lot for paint quality. if they are up to your standards have them do the job and make sure the company rep is on board with paying. ensure you have the companies insurance policy etc if he plans on paying cash instead of making a claim. it would be up to the bodyshop after that point as far as payment is concerned, so if cash they could get a down payment of reasonable size or pay up front. make sure to check the truck in the sun when it is done and don't accept it unless it is good. be up front with the body shop guys so they know you want the same quality as it has now and no fading or mismatch will be accepted-charge accordingly. good luck. too bad it had to happen in the first place but it was an accident. that's the way it goes.

in cleaning the engine I found the tiny bit of original paint on the 47 GMC engine. It was behind the exhaust manifold It was OLIVE GREEN. I have now confirmed it was not grey.

Picked up my cab and doors today after they were chemically stripped. I wanted to make sure all the rust/old paint/grime and crud were removed. The cab has the typical rust areas but overall I think it's pretty solid. I couldn't get a good picture of the doors but they are in excellent shape from what I can tell right now. These pictures were taken when I delivered the pieces to the body shop. Primer will go on first thing tomorrow.

Done with my rattle can overhaul of a strong running 84' 4 bolt 350 and recently rebuilt TH400. I disassembled, cleaned, sandblasted as needed, primed, painted, and reassembled all front accessory drive. Added some valve covers that came off my grandpas stock car in the 70's and some Camaro headers I got dirt cheap. Installed in my 53 and did a valve adjustment that should get rid of the tappet ticking up near the #1cyl. Will do some wiring and hopefully fire it up by the weekend:canada:

Pulled the Kansas truck out of the carport, tracked down wiring problem, bought a battery, changed the oil, threw some antifreeze in her, cleaned gas tank (along with a lot of nastiness under seat) and hooked back up, threw $5 of gas in her and brought her back to life from who knows when. Actually ran but carb loading up and leaking like a sieve. I'll deal with that and a couple other minors and she'll be ready to flip so I can get to the real project.
