Just a small update since we've been doing a bunch of welding. We did make a 27" plywood wheel to figure out back spacing and clearance. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Wooden wheel.....Yabba-Dabba Do!

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister

We finished off some more of the welding this week. First the passenger side fender top then the drivers side. Then we started positioning the sheetmetal so we can start tacking the top and bottom of the fender together |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Was out your way on Thursday late afternoon seen an orange 60's pickup truck in that area but not sure if you know where that is..It was. Close to Kent Bridge

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
i'm sorry to say this, but i don't think you're gonna like the truck when you're finished. might as well start converting it to diesel and i'll take it off your hands. jk. looking good!

Pulled the suburban out of storage this week. It needed a new battery and a fuel pump relay. We also test fit the hood and found that we have to tweak the fender alignment a little bit. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister

We spent the last couple of days welding the fender top to the bottom. So far we have about 2/3 of the driver side done. To break up the monotony we decided to start making the pieces to attach the piece we cut off the front of the hood, to the grille. We got the two center sections tacked in and started working on small pieces that will come next.

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Looks great Dale. So the hood will open behind the red panel?
|
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Looking good Dale, are you still going to use the twin C2 style lights

We finished welding the top and bottom of the fenders together. Then we removed the hood that we had tacked in place. Next step was to make a panel to attach the front hood section to the rad saddle |

We made the small panels that will be beside the lights. Next we cut out a section of the top of the rad saddle where the lights will go.

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Are you moving the lights up to the hood

We finished the modifications to the top corners of the rad saddle. We made a new top for the corners and welded them on. Also we got a little bit of welding done on the front panels. Still lots to do. |

To reenforce the front edge of the fender where the headlights will go we bent this piece. Then we tacked it in place.

This week we did some more welding on the front panels. Also we made some panels for around the headlight buckets. One piece is welded to the fender. The other pieces are welded to the grille surround. |

We made some more progress on the headlight buckets. We made a plate for the back. Then we modified the piece the lights mount to. Then we cut two holes in the back plate. Finally we set the pieces in place

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
I continue to just love this build.
Front end shaping up nicely too. |

We have been making the headlight bucket for the other side so there's nothing new to photograph. I did buy a new daily driver a couple of weeks ago. It's a 2002 chevy 1/2 ton stepside with 108,000 kilometres. It has no rust so it must not have seen much winter driving. We'll start modifying it to get me and my wheelchair in and make some hand controls. I'll post updates on for anyone who might be interested. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Nice truck Dale and certainly better than my daily driver ( I'd be too embarrassed to post a picture of my daily):waah:

Interested in the mods. You sure don't see many extended cab step sides around.
|
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
I would be nice to see the hand controls Dale . Will you be loading the wheelchair in the bed or behind you in the cab .

The first part we need to make is a large ( 6" square 5.5 foot long ) telescope. This will support my lift and both front and back doors. To make the telescope slide easily we decided to use skateboard wheels as rollers so we made some brackets and axles. Then we cut some holes in one end of each tube and welded the brackets in place. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
With your fab skills this will be interesting!
|
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Interesting

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
