Nope. I'm from Sonoma (18 years), but I'm only moving here in town. After the kids are grown I'd consider moving back to nor-cal. ...but my yongest is only 4.

I'd be alright pumping my own gas. You can't imagine what it does to the lines to have to wait for the attendants...

How long are you going to be in ABQ? Maybe we can meet for lunch before you leave. LMK.

This is sorta kinda the plan for my Blazer.

The actual "plan" is '67-68 side trim with white on top and bottom and blue in the middle. One of these days I'll get someone to photoshop it for me.

Now don't go stealing my plan for the 67-68 side trim:lol: Keep up the good work Frizzle

I'll post some pics of the shop this weekend.

No I got the PTE-H8013-1

They have 1 7/8" Primaries and 3/8" flanges. The H8012 has 1 3/4" primaries and says it has 1/4" flanges (though I think that's a mis-print).

Pics of the shop as promised. It's a modest little shop (20x36) nestled among some enormous trees. It does have a full second floor for tons of storage. It's over 7' tall at the peak up there so no crouching over trying to move stuff around.

It needs a shop door put in and currently has only 'man doors.' I haven't had a chance to set anything up yet (five days/week in NM doesn't help), but here it is:

... more including the inside, retracting ladder/stairs, second floor storage, and the door/pad plan. I'm going to make the right side side a 36' deep double bay and the left side shop/work space. That huge work bench in the center will be pushed to the far end by the wood-burning stove (to the right of where the cherry picker is in the pics):

Sweet shop! All you need is a big roll up door and walla! Instant shop. One thing though. I don't think you have enough room to park you c5 project truck. Why don't you drop it off at my house and i keep it "safe" for you:lol:

Nice shop!

I don't think it will take long to decide on building a real set of stairs into that attic space. I did the "ladder thing" for a while, but it really makes it hard to use the attic for parts that you want easy access to.

I found that a set of stairs built into a corner with a single winder is reasonably space-efficient, and lets you reach the top step at the highest part of the peak. You also don't bang your head into the rafters all the way down!

My other vote would be for lots of KILZ paint on all that wood (white) and as many overhead shop lights as you can afford. There's nothing like a well-lit and bright workshop to inspire you....

Have you thought about a wider door? I've just seen so many guys with skinned up machines from backing out of narrow doors. I went 12' wide with mine. I know that's wide but I like it.

Anywho, either way that's going to make an awesome shop for ya!

Standard garage door is 9' wide x 7' tall. But if you go with the standard double wide I think it's 16'. It takes some wall space, but in the summer it's nice to have the wide opening for a breeze. Get the best insulated door you can, steel inside and out. Easier to heat in the winter. Congrats!

Hah! It would probably get more attention there than it has in the last year... She's in cozy dry storage until the shop door goes on ;)

Ya we'll see about the stairs. The existing "ladder" almost qualifies as stairs in my book given how well built/sturdy they are and the fact that they have a decent angle (not vertical) and wide/level steps. I go up/down it hands-free no problem. It may need to be relocated though.

As for the paint, I am going to fully insulate and sheet rock it. I've already started collecting light fixtures :D I agree about having a bright/clean shop :metal:

Thanks man. I can't wait to get it dialed in! I might be able to go 9' wide. I'd just prefer not to move that window. There's also a beam straight down the middle of the shop which is why I'm not going with a double width door.

Thanks! Speaking of summer, last weekend when we got into the 70's I was surprised how cool the shop stayed. Those 100' trees shade it all day and the attic helps too. With four 1st floor and two 2nd floor windows plus the doors I think I'll get plenty of airflow :) It'll certain beat what I've been working in for the last year!

I'm home on weekends. Give me a call anytime if you're out on the west side. Otherwise you probably want to stop by after I get it all set up and the trucks moved in. More to look at that way ;) I'll probably buy the door this weekend and install it the following. It'll be one more week before the trucks move in, best case.

The previous owner had the WHOLE shop full of junk! What a waste. I can't let this extra storage change my definition of what "I might use one day" That's a slippery slope...

I've thought the exact same thing many a times, but there's no way I could afford it, even in it's present state :(

No plans to sell ...but those words have been known to hold little water...

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

...so I had a couple things in mind

First the 68 clip:

OG clip
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1211649863

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1211649863

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1211649863

and here's a good display of the extra space with the mod'ed fenders:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1211649863

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1211649863

The front end came down a little more with the old inners out:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1211649863

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1211649863

This is how much room I have aired-out, 1.5" cups, 2.5" spindles and ~28" tires With the new inners installed I figure I'll have about an inch to play with:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1211650078

I'm going to buy an extra set of inners to extend them. Mine have some lower rust anyway. And with all this extra space I may have no choice but to chop the crossmember

The next thing itchin to go on was the headers. They went on with no frame clearancing required.

First, here's why long tubes and bagged trucks don't mix...

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1211650462

Man that's ugly, but this is better :)

Driver's side went on without even pulling the plugs. Passenger side was a little tighter but still had enough room not to grind IMO:
