Re: GM Semis
My Dad loved them. I thought the cab/hood area killed them for me. Nothing flowed..

Re: GM Semis
That is a lot of truck for the money.
I can't believe CA is starting to pick on older trucks on the road, if I am understanding it correctly. First I've ever heard of it. Bill |
Re: GM Semis
If you haven't noticed , Bill...................There's an awfull lot of Petes and KWs listed in California because of smog rules.

Re: GM Semis
Great shot of James.
I just saw the one where he and his Dad were both chasing down a Semi driving Bobtail. They were driving a couple of IH's. It also had a great shot of what looked like a GMC 7500 Tractor parked at the freight yard. We're going to miss him. May he Rest in Peace. Bill |
Re: GM Semis
I wonder if his truck survived through the years?

Re: GM Semis
Yeah, that was neat.. One question about the one ton on the top left. Anybody ever seen a wheel like the one on the front? Almost looks like a super single type setup.
|
Re: GM Semis
Yep,R.I.P. Mr. James Gardner. You many many smile. And you could drive hrd while eating dirt, too! I sure would like to have that Stepside now! Never liked that store-bought stuff back then.
I was going to comment on the camera truck, too. The whole thing is baddass! Yep,those are widened Budds that were chrome plated. Can't be running out of site behind the camera on anything less than custom-made chrome wheels you know. That's the truck thing i love...pride in your work horse. |
Re: GM Semis
This thread is absolutely amazing!!! I love semi's.

I stopped posting pictures because I lost track of what me and others showed and it's too big to check. I went through my pictures and cided the ones "I don't think" I have showed and pretty sure no one else has. So,if any are repeats I apologize in advance.
'50s car (vehicle) haulers,while we're on them: |
Re: GM Semis
Tim,
I've never seen any of those, but I'm sure none of us would mind a repeat anyway!! That 's rare to see Mopars being pulled by a GM product in the bottom picture. The only time that usually would happen is if the car manufacturer didn't make a truck. The top picture is a classic. Looks good enough to frame. Bill |
Re: GM Semis
The few of us on the semi page wouldn't mind any repost's
Probably wouldn't remember anyhow... |

If I had a place with more room I'd have been gathering up these old Jimmys over the years
|
Re: GM Semis
I like that 3rd pic, Center horn, pulling the reefer. Looks like a distant inbred cousin of the "duel" Peterbilt truck.
|
Re: GM Semis
That would have been a pretty cool "Duel" truck. I can just hear that sweet Detroit all through the movie.
Not to take away from the original movie, which was well done. ...maybe a Duel II ? |

Re: GM Semis
Impressive load of Corvettes !!
Some pretty cool trucks as well. Bill |
Re: GM Semis
Just recently GM is railing the corvette.
|
Re: GM Semis
So Vettes are loaded exclusively on rail at factory now? Dang, didn't know that. How about at the other end of the line? Driven? Hauled?
|
Re: GM Semis
Railed to a hub then trucked too the dealers.
And they're wrapping them up like audi/vw Used to be trucked from bowling green. |
Re: GM Semis
Special-K------Pic 740 of the COE Chev with 3 military Dodges is great for the era ! I had a Dodge WW2 ambulance back in the '70s, was gonna make it into a truck puller with 6V53. Friends advised me it would need complete running gear upgrade, so I sold and flat towed it to Mansfield, Oh. area. Over the years, I had components for 4 different types of pullers, but only experienced it once with my 9500 GMC.
|
Re: GM Semis
Glad you liked that one. I thought the same thing, too. I always wanted one of those Dodges in any form. I pulled a few times with a '69 W300 back in '77 when I first found out about pulling with trucks and things got so refined. I love to watch the pulls. Lots of black smoke at work (having fun)
|
Re: GM Semis
I love the old military trucks too, here is my '51 M37 doing my first truck pull (I rolled it over on the trails the day before).
|
Re: GM Semis
^^^Definitely not the 230 flathead six powering that beast!!!
