Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I wish I had a couple of helpers like that. I love how the little one moved the step stool out of your way.
I guess having little helpers around can have a downside though; If that was my house, I would have tripped on the stool, busted up my camera and shin, all followed by a 3 minute burst of expletives that would make a sailor blush. While the bad language does not look good, it always makes me feel a little better. I hope that you are able to figure the throttle control out. I know the Colorado folks are looking forward to seeing Bob at the get together next week. Good luck. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
So close!!! I hope you get it figured out, and it turns out to be something rather simple. To bad your so far away, 'cause I have a really nice scanner :).

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I wish you were too, Ed! I pretty much have narrowed it down to the TAC module.
Well, FRED IS DONE!!!! Well, other than fixing the throttle and installing the OBD II connector, he is done! My son and I took him for a drive down the driveway this afternoon. Yeah, no throttle, but we idled all the way!! :D Otherwise, everything is done. Bed is on, both bumpers, grill, hood, interior is all together. I also got the headlight relay mod done to where they are powered directly from the battery, and also all four lights come on in high. Also had a visitor today. Asphaltburner (Todd) came over, the first board member to see the "new" Fred. I'm wiped out, so I'll just leave y'all with a few pics. One of my little helpers. She got to button up the splash guards and filler necks. http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...c/P1010172.jpg Two bright eyes: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...P1010173-1.jpg Four BRIGHT eyes!! http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...P1010174-3.jpg All happy again. I'm afraid I'm liking the Chevy grill too much to put a GMC grill in, but there are too many GMC items to change, so it'll stay a GMC. For now...... http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...P1010175-2.jpg I LOVE this shot!! http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...P1010178-1.jpg |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Looks Good!
Everything you did was top notch! When you catch your breath,... I'd be interested in purcha$ing a step by step install guide from you. Make plenty of copies,... I'm not the only one. Congrats, again. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Fred looks awesome with that front end! nice job man. i had to watch that video again too.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Congradulations! It looks and sounds great. I like the updated front end too.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
:cong: Man it looks, and sounds amazing. I love the chevy grill, and truth be told I bet many people won't catch that it has a bowtie on the grill, and GMC everywhere else. to you and your helpers man. :metal::metal::metal:

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Thanks John!!
I just called a yard in Loveland, and they have a throttle module! So I am heading there right after work to get it. HOPEFULLY that is the problem! |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Fingers crossed man! :metal:
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
1 Attachment(s)
I like this! Regular GMC grill with a 4mm billet insert.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
X2 on the fingers crossed!
^^^^ thats the same grille i put on my '85 blaze... i loved it!! looks cleaner and meaner than the chevy grille. i think you have found the winner!! |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
That looks good, but to me it's just hard to beat the Chevrolet version. Just my .02
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I gotta agree with ya John, but I don't really want to change all the GMC badging over to Chebby right now. $$$$! I am still thinking I will do it when it is time to paint him though. I'll probably just run a driver quality GMC grill for now.
On another note, my wonderful wife is on her way to Loveland and pick up the module for me. :D And I have just enough left to run to Autozone on the way home and get a fairly decent code reader. |

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Wow, I'm glad I stumbled on this build thread! I've had a 2007 4.8l sitting in my garage now for about a year that I want to put in my K5. Now that things are cooling down in my shop, I think the time has come. Not to mention the fact that the Goodwrench 350 is drinking a quart of oil every fillup. ;)
One of my challenges will be flywheel/clutch combo to work with a SM465. Great work and good info! Anxiously awaiting the write-up with part #'s etc!!! :metal: |

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Grrrrr, TAC module didn't fix it. It's also giving me 2 codes for the sensor on the pedal. If I get really lucky, the refund from the fuel hose I sent back will be in my account in the morning and I can get one ordered from Rock Auto.
:banghead: |

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Kind of. It will still be red-ish, but I'm thinking it will be darker. Maybe much darker. Maybe darker to the point that it almost matches the carmine red interior. :D
Well, the news is so-so this morning. The refund did indeed show up n my checking account this morning, so I have the APP sensor on order from Rock Auto already via 2nd day express. However, when I ran in to the shop this morning to grab my glasses off the tool box, there was a small puddle of antifreeze under the area of the right rear cylinder head. I think the S&P adapter is leaking. Didn't have time to check, but I'll bet that's it. So, I'll wait for the APP sensor to get here on Thursday and give that a try. I was careful to remove it from the pedal before I started cutting and welding on it so I wouldn't damage it, but I guess it was either damaged before or...... eh, who knows. Oh, I was also getting codes for the rear O2 sensor heater circuits, so I might have to send my PCM back to make sure they removed the rear O2 programming. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Hope that's all the snags. Keep us updated.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
bummer to hear the adaptor is leaking and the sensor trouble Bob. you'll get it!! and good luck!!
btw, darker red sounds sweet... i'm planning on a beautiful color called red jewel found on the tbss's. you should check it out. there's so many different shades of red out there... the new metallic red on the titans is amazing too. |

BTW, this is the scanner I got. It's nothing like my old Snap-on MT2500, but it'll work for my needs. Plus I can just leave it behind the seat. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51KJNHK0m7L.jpg |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Mine is in the drawer, but I think I have the exact same model scanner/code reader. It works on all the vehicles I have except the 70 ( I wonder why ;) ). It has been very useful, even to tell the Kia dealer things about the wife's car before it goes into service.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
what did that scanner cost ya?
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
$179 and change

It sounds more and more like tapping the head out to 3/8-NPT is the best way to go. The tap drill for 1/4-NPT is very close to the size of the 12 mm threads so it could even be tapped for the smaller senders too if needed. My Auto Meter temp gauge uses an 1/8-NPT sender. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
No o-ring, just a flat brass or bronze washer.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
man... i'm dieing here!!! cant that sensor get here any faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if i feel like this i can only imagine what your going through buddy. 1 more day.... |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
LOL, I closed the hood, rolled up the windows, locked the doors and took the keys in the house. I'll have to put in some extra effort to go do something to it!! Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow........
Now I'm on the hunt for an 88-98 rear end. I did find one locally at a yard for $275. |

that sounds like a lot i guess depending whats in it. miles, gears, posi!?... are the pretty sought after rear ends? my minds spinning now since i went the cheapo route w/ mine and just threw a set of spider gears in it... i know its width is more than our stock one. hmmmmm.... Amy already wants to kill you since i told her i'm hunting for a 6.0 that will cost just a little more than the 5.3.LOL |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Average price on car-part.com is upwards of $400-$500 for one of those rears.
