Went to pick up a grill I got from eBay.

The seller was a great guy called Johnny who owns this beauty.........

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...pst2egl04q.jpg

We got chatting over a cup of tea (very English and civilised ) and he took me out for a spin in it. I've sent him a link to this site so hopefully he'll make an appearance and tell you more about his truck, which he's done a ton of work on.

He also plays double bass in a Rock n Roll band, and I'm going to see them play in a local pub in a couple of weeks.

Anyway - I got a great grill from him and he kindly threw in a couple of light bezels. They have been hand painted (which has probably stopped them going rusty!) so will be blasted and powdercoated to give my truck's front end a new look.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

WHEELS DAY..........!!!

Easter Friday every year.

This show was so well organised in my view, the guys really delivered today, and at £5.00 entry fee which goes to charity, a bargain day out.

This year the weather promised a perfect English show day.

When I woke at 05.45 I made a mug of tea, then texted mate Martin to see if he was going with us or taking Amanda if he could drag her out of bed.

Seemed she was up and ready to go before he could even get going.

The weather forecast was perfect for spring in the UK.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmcf63qa4.jpg

We left at 07.00 and got to Rushmore Arena quite early, let in straight away, Martina and Amanda were there minutes after us.

So we went off and took different directions around the arena.

I headed for the small auto jumble area first as it is always first come first served with used spares.

On the way, Nicola clocked these....... Used industrial contract rubber mats.

Bought two for the garage in front of the work benches, one 16 foot by 2.5 foot and one 10 foot by 3 foot.

At £5.00 each it was not to be missed.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskowsdnk9.jpg

Also bought today for a lot less than expected was an adjustable Automatic Chevy Astro van steering column, which included the ignition with three keys and all the plugs for its wiring at a sensible price.

Heavy bloody thing to cart over to the car after Martin had come all the way across the field to check out if he thought it could be grafted into my truck. Along with the new wiring loom it should be good if we can make it fit and work.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psjdp07nhe.jpg

Mouldy Airbag steering will have to go, then hopefully my original Moon style wheel can go on directly, or may need an adaptor.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssvuo4n6t.jpg

Will need some brackets to fit it, and being an adjustable means it could be a bit nicer to use.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psl0y6gh0l.jpg

So for me, a great day, spending time with Mrs Boss looking at loads of awesome cars, priceless.

We will be back again next year.

Sunday and Monday is the Chatham Dockyard Festival of Steam and Transport which promises to be a great day out.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

Went over to Martin's early this morning as Nicola was off to visit her daughter in Buckinghamshire for a couple of days.

He needed to move a load of stuff in his garage and shed, including getting his V8 and gearbox out the way, and then getting the straight six from his truck and it's gearbox out to the front of his carport for Über Cool, Andy to collect next weekend for his truck build.

I took my new to me, steering wheel and column with to test fit/offer it up to his upside down cab to see if it will fit.

So after the engines and sheds were sorted, we tried it out.

My current Moon style wheels rim and boss are both 9" from the dash edges.

The new one is 11" away, so I will need to do a bit of thinking around the best solution for form and function when I get to fitting it.

While I was there, Martin ripped the airbag and it's ring and wiring out as well.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvmjmasdw.jpg

When I got home I cleaned it all up, much improved.

So now the steering wheel and it's airbag bits can get sold as I do not want a modern wheel on my truck, still need to figure out what splines the column has and see what adaptor I may have to fit to get a new steering wheel fitted.

I personally like the older style stuff and love my Moon style that is deep dished and will be removed.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqwhoptrv.jpg

One of the things we realised this morning was that the small plastic cover behind the light and indicator stalk is missing.

Aaaaaaarrrgghhh !!!!

This means I now need to find one from somewhere, and one would expect most columns to come with them fitted, so not many about to buy or scavenge.

Anyway, if anyone knows where, or has one...... Please let me know.

Got 2 more 16.5 spare mud tires for the 65 for 20 bucks from another member. Incase I blow out my current spare on a trail or something. AND (I know it's not a truck) but i got a 4 bolt main 327 roller motor that runs like a raped ape from my coworker for the price of helping him install his new motor in his 70s 4x4 land cruiser. He's going LS and didn't want the 327 Anymore. :)

Well after getting back from a car show today I decided to get a little truck time in .
I managed to get both of the right side cab supports in

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps71ncfti3.jpg

Once I had done the front one I tackled the rear one . A little harder to fit due to having to trim and fit it up to the front to rear brace and having to drill the holes to bolt it to the inner rocker

Took it for a nice 20+ mile cruise. Thing ran flawlessly...minus a squeaky wiper and a leaky windshield and no front turn signals(who cares right?). 2500 rpm is optimum highway cruising for that thing. Love it!!! :metal:

Not a lot to the truck, but while stripping a donor bike......

One of the nice things we discovered about the tail end of the little bike is that it will also be donating its number plate bracket and light to the truck......

You see, every Chevy needs a little Honda in its life.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssapbfonk.jpg

Thanks must as always go to Martin for coming over and creating havoc in my life, but also keeping me company and taking the lead on the stripping of the bike, he has clearly done this a few times before, and it may point at a very misspent youth......... Only he will know.

I got a call earlier today to say my wheels were ready for delivery back home.

So when I got in, there was a rather awesome pile of gifts waiting for me.

I think that going from this......

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspusfrvll.jpg

I am in awe at the finish.

Along with my exhausts antisocial thuggery, the eye searingly red rims and white hot new chrome, this project promises to look pretty decent as long as I do the body work justice.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psoo442yei.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psx1yrzb34.jpg

Next job will be to source four decent 235/75-15 tyres.

I think I may have found some..... From Germany, a set of four, delivered for £306.00

If anyone has a better option, let me know.

Well it wasn't today. It was Monday. I yanked out the old front crossmember and installed my pancaked, 86 front crossmember with disc brakes. Don't have spindles yet. They are in the mail.

just what i needed, odd thing thou without a spacer or spring, the inner hub that rides on the axle shaft will bottom out too far and cause the "teeth" of the locking hub part to just skip over the mating "teeth"!!! i plan to cut down the spacer that was oem in the non locking hub to close that gap, should be fine cuz it was already riding on the outer bearing anyway... any other suggestions?

A nice new pair of Flowtech Purple Hornies (glasspack mufflers) arrived today. We headed straight for the muffler shop and had them installed within 45 minutes! He retained all my hangers, and even my turn downs. He just surgically removed the old mufflers and inserted the new ones in the same exact locations. I hung on to the old mufflers as they last indefinitely. I'll probably have them installed in my daughters truck.

The dash cam videos turned out lousy, so we'll be shooting some new stuff with an IPhone hopefully tomorrow: In this photo the passenger side glasspack is installed, while the Flowtech Terminator (chambered muffler) remains to be done:

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/912/XvUWt2.jpg

Man these things sound sweet. At idle, the muffler rumble is noticeable. At full throttle they are about 80% as loud as when the cutouts are open!

And I guess that makes you grin like a monkey on speed??

Another "valuable" mod done. If you have to explain, they would not get it anyway.

It really is great that you can and do continually tweak your truck for your own pleasure.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

We were at the muffler shop, and Ruthann stated "that's what makes this all worthwhile". She was referring to the continuous all day grin on my face! We mentioned to several people the truck itself was her birthday gift to me 23 years ago, and the mufflers are her gift for the latest birthday I had a couple days ago!

It's nice to be loved and supported!

And here's a rather mediocre video I threw together until I can create something better:
