Thanks Chris & Ryan!
So mirrors? We’ve got the original west coast mirrors that came with this cab that would work. They’re in great shape and we could repaint or chrome them? I might have something else in mind though. |

Hey Jim, I will keep that in mind if they don’t end up on Blue? Can’t seem to get the stainless below eye line sets I’ve put on that truck to stop vibrating at freeway speed. :banghead:
Decided a while ago that I didn’t really want painted or chromed if possible on this truck. That lead to an opened, discontinued(?) set of Velvac #713711 GMT-400 88-98 stainless mirrors off of ebay (listed by u-haul in early 2014) to see if they could be adapted somehow. It was obvious only the mirror head and hoop assembly would be usable for us. What made this deal doable is that they also came with an opened set of Velvac #700064 heavy duty adjustable stainless steel arms. One small catch though, this set was missing an arm and all the compression nuts and sleeves. Made a few phone calls and tracked down the missing parts needed, we have everything now to complete the set. Here’s some pics trying to utilize as many of the original holes as possible and figuring out which ones to fill and drill. There will be a lower arm like the originals just not pictured. |

Our quik round of fill and drill and yes, the frogs were pretty darn happy about it! ;)

Re: 72 K30 Build
Looks good ,never seen more happy frogs .

Thanks flashed.
Final mirror mockup is done and they should have all the functionality of the originals. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Pretty damn neat Brett! It has been months since I have been on here. Took me forever I catch up lol.

Thanks Mike, good to hear from you! Hope you guys are having a great summer.
While the cab is still on the frame we needed to resolve our park brake and decided to take First c10 (Scott) advise from last year. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=382 Removed the old cables that came with the K35 donor to double check my measurements and get ready for new stuff. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Been a long time since we heard from that build!

All new cable from the factory pedal back to the drums w/o the use of an intermediate cable. The 2 into 1 bracketry is pretty slick and will be hidden inside the frame rail. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Hey Brett looking good. That is pretty close to what I did. I just used the stock front cable. Of course I have not tried it other that pulling on it by hand but it seems the work great on the rear Caddy discs.
|
Re: 72 K30 Build
Wow, that's a whole lot cleaner look than factory cables!
|
Re: 72 K30 Build
Damn, that does look nice. Is that the "EZ bracket style" or Side pull?
Be interested to know what that setup cost? |

Just needs the factory style square firewall grommet and adjust up the brakes some more, but it does what it’s supposed to do. I’ll finish mounting the long primary cable after the cab is back off the frame. We will see if the rear cables need anything more once the weight of a bed is added. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Awesome, thanks for posting.

No problem webfoot.
Cab is coming back off and should be painted next time it goes back on. Now that the ebrake is sorted and it looks like the drums/hubs should on there for a while we finally sealed and filled the rear differential. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
I had those tires on my 71 K20, and really liked them.
|
Re: 72 K30 Build
As usually, it looks great. I am excited about that cable, thanks for posting. I've been scratching my head about how to accommodate all the oddness in my green truck. Looks like that may be the ticket.

Looks like you had a fun weekend! Did you go through a bunch of the little maroon scotch discs digging that stuff out, or do you have another method? That cab looks to be in incredible shape!

Re: 72 K30 Build
Very nice! You are so lucky to be able to take it in and get it back done the same day! Plus, you can probably leave it like that for a few days before it starts flash rusting. Unlike here. Haha

Re: 72 K30 Build
This is awesome Brett!
I hope you don't get in trouble for posting nude pics though!:lol: |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Looks nice and clean! Any oil canning in the hood?

The weather is supposed to be good today so the plan is to get the cab to a buddy of mine. No visible signs of any flash rust as of yet, we've kept handling the sheet metal to a minimum and gloves only. |

I carefully sandblasted the hood and trunklid of my GTO, and as low as I could keep the heat it still had oil canning. The blast media actually changes the profile of the sheetmetal in those long flat parts and makes it have a larger surface area than the other side. I took care of it with a stainless steel shrinking disc. I hope you escape with no troubles. Where I live it is pretty dry, and I'd think Utah is the same. I have had sandblasted parts left in bare metal for a few years without flash rusting. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
I'll never forget the first time I drove my Corvette with the T-tops off..... That sand was coming out from the interior some where. Stupid stuff. (The car has no carpet and bare minimum interior)

Re: 72 K30 Build
Yeah, Mrs. 7dee2 called one of our cars Sandy for that very reason.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Looking good Brett, I don't have time to do any of that and i hate to paint!!! so I am going to get a local shop to do the paint and body after my metal work is done.
Keep the great work!!! |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Eh... Just slap some clear coat on it and be done with it... LOL!
