Sorry about the rant on the 63. It was a very frustrating build with lot's of do overs. I really believe we could have done two trucks in the time this one took. Didn't mean to talk down anyones work with LS conversions or air rides. I know they are very cool and I appreciate the knowledge it takes to pull it off. I guess we just don't have it... fortunately, there's room for all of us. We will just keep doing what we do. OK, I just ranted about the rant... geeezzz |

It's that time of year again.
This is our 12th annual truck/car show and Toy Drive. Each year it gets bigger and more kids have a good Christmas that wouldn't otherwise. Most of you live too far away to come to the party but if you wish to donate you can send money to our paypal... rockhouse205@att.net We will use the donations to purchase toys for very deserving children. The age group that we support are K through 6th grade. Thank you in advance... it's all about the kids. |
Re: tuba trucks
Clem
Craig and I cannot make it this year but I am putting some cash over into the PayPal account to use toward something with wheels to bring some smiles. This is so easy into rockhouse205@att.net and straight vis PayPal I do pray that more people see this and respond with a Dollar or a Dime A Penny or a Pound. Miss you guys. |
Re: tuba trucks
Thanks Rian and Craig,
Every donation helps. We have a kitty that we will collect donations in and go out and buy bicycles for the kids. If some other members wish to help, even a donation of $5 is appreciated and will find a way to the kids. We make sure the toys get to the deserving single parent families or those out of work who would not be able to afford Christmas presents for their kids. My wife Kim has a paypal account > rockhouse205@att.net < drop a few dollars in it... you will probably feel pretty good about helping. Thank You, to all my cyber brothers. |

Hopefully a help-wanted post will be ok with the forum. I can't think of a better way to reach exactly the people we need since everyone on here has an interest in old trucks.
If you are willing to relocate, I can help out with expenses. If you're retired and have always wanted to be part of something fun. If you are tired of working hard and not feeling good about where it's going. If you are passionate about working on cool old cars and trucks. If you're willing to try something new. If you feel like you are a pretty good mechanic with some old-school skills... Please PM me and we can discuss a job opportunity and I will get back to you with details. You can call or email. Sorry no texts. By the way, google Fayetteville, AR, it's a great place to live. Thanks, Clem Johnson clem@tubatrucks.com 479-442-9286 |
Re: tuba trucks
A pretty great offer,
now from Germany it would be a long way. I wish you luck in your search for an employee who is passionate about what you do. |

This 65 short-bed custom cab has left the building. It has a Blueprint 350 crate motor and a Tremec 5-speed connected to a 3:73 posi 12 bolt. A 4-5 static drop from springs and spindles plus a drop block. Vintage Air linked with factory AC vents and an original gauge cluster make this hotrod truck a pleasure to drive.
Congrats JB and happy motoring for many years from TubaTrucks. |
Re: tuba trucks
A perfect combination for a fun truck to drive for many many years.

Re: tuba trucks
Good looking setup for sure. I would love to see a 5spd on the column conversion for some of these trucks with a nice bench seat. I'm sure it would make a lot of people do a double take.

Re: tuba trucks
Wow, you do some excellent work! I love your shop too.

Almost done on this 66 long-bed. Needs carpet and a little test driving, but that should be it. The engine is a Blueprint 383 with a healthy cam, 700R and posi 3:73 gears. Original light red paint with a grey metallic interior. This one is for a friend in Louisiana and soon he will be driving his dream. Happy Motoring Leon.

After the green 65 and the red 66 were finished the next one up is the 58 Cameo. The crew here has done a great job bringing the Cameo restoration to a level that may be one of our best builds. This month the inner metal bed was painted contrasting dark blue along with the top and cab window surrounds. Then the bed and bed boards were installed. Next came the fiberglass bed sides and trim. At that point we knew this one was going to be special. Everything that was added after that just took this truck to another 'Oh Wow' moment. Heres some pics. Still a-ways to go but motivation is not a problem. Stay cool... heat exhaustion is real so take care and thanks again. |
Re: tuba trucks
I will be over in early September to inspect your work.
Looking great as always Clem. |
Re: tuba trucks

Another one has left the shop...
Leon and Regina have taken their 66 long-bed back to New Orleans. They are now part of the Tuba Trucks family and we will be connected for as long as they own and enjoy their truck. The guys here did a great job on this one. Happy motoring Leon and let her drive once in a while. |

Beautiful work Clem.

Now that the Louisiana truck has gone home, we have space to work on a few others. The GMC carryall is in paint, The red and black 48 is back from hibernation and the 63 patina is occupying it's own shop. More pics later on those but first the 58 Cameo is ready to roll out. |

The 1958 Chevrolet Cameo has left the shop. This rare two-tone color combo is powered by a second-gen Corvette 327 and a 700R4 overdrive trans. The guys here at Tuba Trucks did a fantastic job bringing this Cameo back to it's previous glory. Plus, we made some great friends in the process. It's really nice when one rolls out and everybody is happy.

Re: tuba trucks
I bet that truck gets it's picture taken a lot on the way home. Aloso some waves and thumbs up.
Do you ever see any of the GMC trucks from the mid to late 50's with Pontiac engines & trans? Those were rare too. Thanks for a shop update, always enjoyable. |
Re: tuba trucks
That Cameo is incredible. All these old trucks had such style to them. Great job!

Re: tuba trucks
Beautiful work as usual. The owners look very happy, as they should. What's next?

The 66 Jimmy carryall is back in the shop. Metallic light green and cream on the outside and a warmer fawn and cream interior. We just completed the oak flooring in the back and all four of the sliding side windows. Don't know if any of you guys have attempted restoring those side windows but they sure are a challenge. Our usual glass company declined the job. |

Magnificent……….

Re: tuba trucks
So Beautiful.

Re: tuba trucks
How could anyone not love that beauty? Just think those trucks where built to be used up and replaced. It is a true wonder any of them are still around.
Thanks to you and your guys, Tuba Trucks will "Keep Em Rollin'" |

The 66 GMC carryall and a 65 shortwide restoration are the focus of the crew lately. I will get some pictures together in a few days but today we are getting a boom truck to lift and place our new air compressor. A vertical 3- phase, 120 gallon, twin V pump with a 10 horse motor and it's a monster. Also it's our Toy Drive season so life is very busy right now... more later. We always appreciate the members and folks that drive the best truck forum on the planet. |

It's TOY DRIVE time again. In previous years Tuba has gathered toy donations and presented them to local elementary schools. The teachers would store the toys in a place where they could bring in the more impoverished or single parent families and let them pick out all the toys needed to make Christmas wonderful for their kids. Doing it this way those families become Santa Claus with no credit going to the school or Tuba. That is why we like doing it.
If you wish to help out and make a child happy on Christmas morning you can send toys or mail a check, we will shop for you. Please make it out to: Clem Johnson, 1798 E. Huntsville Rd. Fayetteville, AR 72701. And Thanks a bunch. This Years T-shirt art seen below. Be sure to include your return address. |

The 13th Annual Toy Drive was a huge success. One of the elementary schools sent some pics of a bunch of Happy Kids. That is what it's all about.
A big thanks to those who contributed and helped us make this event happen each year. Folks on the forum are the best... |

Today the crew was on the 66 Carryall. I had changed the dash to a two tone paint job including the steering wheel. Then Philip, Tuba's lead mechanic installed the engine turned gauge cluster. We filled it with a bunch of old Stewart Warner gauges. The Vintage Air AC vents are also in an engine turned panel mounted under dash. In one pic you can see that the brake is more spaced away from the gas pedal. We used the straighter clutch pedal arm to replaced the original brake arm. Then added an Impala pedal and 'Power Brake' pad.
The interior is coming together and I can't wait to install those seats. More pics soon. |

Three years ago we built a 52 flatbed and sold it to a guy who wanted it as a Christmas present for his wife. She was pretty surprised to get an old truck for Christmas but also a little disappointed.
She wanted an old truck to tool around in all right, just not a flatbed. So my guy brought it back. He wanted us to make a standard pickup with fenders and running boards and a tailgate and normal bed out of the flatbed. Man, I loved that flatbed (pic 1, 2 & 3) but the customer is always, mostly right. And so it is... Not a big deal, it happened. He is happy, she is happy, and she got what she wanted for Christmas 2023, three years later but all is well... So, we are happy too. |
Re: tuba trucks
Really nice as usual.

Re: tuba trucks
As always Clem, some of the most, if not most covetable trucks come from Tuba Trucks every year.
You and your team are amazing in contributing to the maintenance of history and beauty. Thank you all. And your Toy Drive, every year you make such a huge difference to so many kids who would have nothing if not for the grace of all involved. |
Re: tuba trucks
So beautiful, and yet difficult, to see the kids choosing a present. Wonderful what Tuba and friends has provided. And difficult to consider the conditions those families are facing.
I'll bet the non-flat-bed truck is much more what the lady had in mind. There are depictions all over the place of little pickups if you go into a big box "hobby store". That flat bed was very cool, but I'm guessing she's thrilled with the "make-over". Such clean work with character. Especially in the engine bay that most will not see. Thanks for posting. |
