I am so happy today! I got my gas tank out and it came out so easily I am STILL just pumped! (Thanks to good advice found here).

I also removed a falling apart door stop/bumper so I need to order a set of those.

Found more rust  in the bottom of the cab under the gas tank spout hole. Oh ya, and I have a rust hole in my muffler too! Add that to the list....

Replaced the pcv valve grommet in the valve cover...best $2.75 spent on Black Betty. Exhaust leak is next

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I ordered a bunch of parts: mostly rubber bumpers but did order the new sending unit.

Found out a new radiator from Advance Auto would be some $400.00! YIKES. I guess I'll buy from a vendor on here when the time comes.

Found a new fuel pump at Advance Auto but can't get a hold of the store....both phone lines seem to be out. So....might just go on over there today.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

The dang thing (pcv valve) would just slip out, typically when I was doing 60 mph down the hwy, Mister-B. The original grommet was all dry rotted and half of it ended up in the valve cover when I tried to replace it (I fished it out). The engine would sputter when it wasn't securely mounted, problem solved.

Nothing yet, besides ordering some parts. Hopefully going to pick up a set of 22s for it this evening.

Re : Engine Grommets

FWIW ;

ALL those pesky , leaky engine grommets are available in the " HELP ! " aisle of your FLAPS .

Not only will your engine run better with them in place and snug but , it'll leak less oil everywhere too as the PCV's mild vacuum helps to slow weeps & seeps .

I always take all the old rotten or blubbery rubber grommets to match them up .
They have the correct long exhaust studs and alloy nuts too .

Clean & re paint the covers when the grommets are out to make it look prettier .

Today I also (after posting that above) bought some rubber hose for the fuel lines and ordered a new fuel pump from Advance Auto. I guess I might as well replace as much as I can on the fuel system while I'm working on it.

That was a heck of a day...did you work 20 hours on it?

For mine, I found a radiator shop that still fixes radiators and dropped off my busted radiator.

found a leak in brake line and spent two hours trying to get the dang thing off. painted the grill, bumper and wheels black to cover up the poor worn out finish. had to wait for the penetrating oil to allow the line to come off and painted the bowtie on the hood to match. came out nice against the white paint

I havent complained but I'm getting impatient and ill. But we'll survive.

I've lived without internet before.

I have started the "tear down" on the 70' for paint. Here is a picture of where I am....was a complete truck this morning. Hope to have hood, fenders, doors, and cowl to the painter in the next couple of weeks. Putting in a new Radiator support next week..Happy, Happy,...Happy!! ;)

Walked out to it @ 04:30 and lit it off , drove it to the Coffee House where I'm reading this .

I *may* have found a good '69 cab out of state , we'll see .

I'm quite sure there's plenty of decent cabs here in California but I can't seem to find any :waah: .

God , I love this old Base Model Truck ! :chevy: .

Yesterday, cleaned under the cowl and in the vent area, pulled the dash and installed a new bezel and pulled the dead am/fm cassett player, installed new water pump and thermostat.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I got a little closer today.

Tightened up the oil drain bolt as I had a very slight leak. I removed all of the rubber hose connections on the fuel line and all but two connections on the charcaol vent line. I loosened the metal fuel line between the fuel pump and the carb. I also picked up my new fuel pump.

Scrapped out the seam sealer under the cowl on both sides just below the window, cleaned it up as good as possible, treated it with a rust converter, then re sealed them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

No "work" today but I feel I made good progress. I asked a garage about replacing the cab mount bushings and it seems to be something I can indeed do myself assuming I can get the bolts out.

Another garage will clean out the gas tank for $50.00 but the man had his doubts as to whether or not I'll end up having to get a new tank. If I do, I just do. He can also clean the radiator but according to my description, he's pretty sure the radiator is beyond repair.

If my sending unit removal tool comes tomorrow I'll get that out and run the tank over for cleaning.
