Lets see..Installed and removed 9 headers...still trying to find a set that fits.
Shortys - 69648 - Fits 67-72 C20-C30 but not C10, kicks out to the side too much and hit frame, collector is in "C" channel, not ideal Tri-Y's - no part number - Fit beautiful on the driver's side, pass side only hit; 1. frame 2. Brake Line 3. Starter 4. Cross Member 5. Lower A-Arm 6. Trans Cooler Lines and the outlet points toward the flex plate cover Mid Length - 68600 - fits Camaros and Chevelle - both front tubes hit upper engine stand offs, pass side a bit worse Full Length - 69890 - Fits 67-87 C10- Pass side fits but hangs about 4" under frame, could not even get driver's side installed with almost everything removed The copper colored ones are what I started with and the set that is going back in. Hedman has a new Mid Length - 69016 - that no one stocks yet but they tell me they used an actual truck for fitment. The pass side looks good but the driver's side looks like it might drop a bit too soon. We'll see, if I can find a set. |

Had a hneated discussion with someone from the California DMV. She was crazy enough to send me her FAX no and I peppered her with FAX'es until she called back...
Now I have her phone number.....I got an ACTUAL PROMISE with someone with a REAL NAME that the tags will be here in seven days....We'll see. In the meantime, I've got time on my hands until the trailer comes to get me for the exhauset appointment tomorrow afternoon. So, I learned a new detailing "trick"...At least, new to me. I had banged the brand-new tinted rear window and left a small hole in the tint. There are a couple of other dings in the tint in various windows. I took this product "Nightshade" I had on hand for the tail and front turn signal lenses. Hit the spots with a very very slight amount of this on my brush. A couple of these pics show the interim procedure. But best results for me were attained by letting the stuff COMPLETELY dry and then slide over the area with a sharp safety blade. It's not perfect. But better. Good enough to live with for this driver. |

Wow thats insane! I thought shorty Chevelle headers fit? I cant believe that with all the c10's out there, nobody has anything that bolts on and tucks out of the way. I have long tube headers on mine and they hang way below the frame. I need to replace them before I bag the truck. I am looking forward to any other info you post about this. Hopefully the headman headers fit and dont hang down. I was going to order chevelle shortys but I Better hold off for now... Lonnie |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Replaced my spark plugs, cap, rotor and wires, checked vacuum and timing.. truck is still missing under load. runs great, normally around town but as soon as you put it to the floor, it starts missing and hesitating. Could it be the points? How do you know when your points need to be replace? fuel filter is also new.. This old stuff is all new to me. Frustrating. I cant wait for my LMC order to show up with all my interior bits. Then I will be happy again!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
My son and I finally got back on the '67 swb stepper we are building for me to use in the last week. It had been setting in my garage since last fall when we moved the cab from the lwb frame to the swb frame and transferred all the '71 5 lug running gear to the frame.
We are building this as nice driver with a few mods here and there to make it what I like, which may not appeal to others. Since I plan to drive it and not sell it, I figured what the heck might as make it the way I like. In the last week we ground down all the repair welds in the cab, pressure washed the frame and cab, primered the floor, installed a power brake booster and yesterday he shot gloss black paint on the frame, fire-wall and floor of the cab. We are letting the paint dry for a few days and then we are going to prep the inside of the cab for priming and painting. My son is the motivator on this project since he has rebuilt quite a few of these old truck, I am providing the finances and doing as much as I can to help. Some day with what I have learned from my son I hope to do a project myself, only time will tell how that works out since I am getting to be an old guy. |

Went through a box of stuff that came with the truck and found this Royce cb/am/fm radio. I had to do it. It works! While it's not like my 29LTD, it does get out a bit. Kinda a cool old radio. Best part, no dash cutting needed.

On the way to "Mountain Muffler", Bass Lake, CA.
Only "broke" three things on the way. The "Brothers" one-size fits all (67-72 stainless) gas cap does not. Gas blew all over the side of the truck. The master cyl I painted this morning leaked brake fluid all over the new paint. Grabbed a hand full of parking brake...Too much. A clamp under the dash let loose. Smacked me pretty good and broke off the brake handle "cover" that bolts to the bottom of the dash. The de-bugging phase. This part's all been on the trailer. :drama: |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Even on the trailer...that's one good lookin truck.

275/45/20 On 10" wide 338's. Because of the backspacing (not to re-start anything ), I'm running 1" spacers...maybe 1.25" to clear the bed (width-wise). I can't really remember which width spacers. To mud.man.rj....Thanks very much. I appreciate the thumbs-up. Three years solo and a little help with the heavy lifting from a couple of good pals. Glad to be at the (sometimes frustrating) "de-bugging" stage. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Early this morning we hooked it up to a gooseneck trailer and went to get hay. We put 22 rolls of hay on that trailer and the 72 pulled it like a champ. I love that truck I want 5 more just like it lol.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Installed all new "lighted markers and new Brothers 68 GMC front turn signal lenses... ( Beware that these DO NOT come with new gaskets like their catalog says)...luckily my gaskets were in very good condition...
http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMAG0282-1.jpg Today....new power steering hose...blew a hole thru the old one while truck was sitting, parked....for no apparent reason!! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Found out my rear main leak is a rear main and an oil pan leak, my rear shock mounts are shot, my upper coil mount was missing, my trans has no reverse lights ran to it, my new exhaust was ran where my bump stops used to be and apparently I've been driving around for four months with no pilot bearing. On the upside it's Saturday :)

Typical Summer in La La Land ;
It's been over 100° F so instead of driving my air conditioned Mercedes , I've been driving my '69 C/10 . it starts right up and goes just fine in the blistering heat , but of course ! it's an 42 year old unrestored CHEVROLET :chevy: . |
