I might have a paint job coming up where I will need a proper paint gun...

I didn't realize you had a 6 banger rig ~ good on ya ! .

Look for the HVLP paint guns with the paint cup on top ~ they're simply amazing .

Yes. I get the Harbor freight paint guns for next to nothing. They're actually pretty good. I use one about three or four times and throw it away. Then I go get a couple more.

Bought an elec cooling fan and adjustable thermostat to control the heat in traffic. Hopefully get it installed this weekend.

Changed my fuel tank, going to a cruise weekend car show about 350 miles from here so need a gas gauge.

Remember , *VERY* important to :

A : install a relay to carry the fan's current

B : wire it live so the fan will come on during the heat soak when the engine has been shut off .

Properly installed , the Electric fan out cools the mechanical fan hands down , is quieter and saves a couple (about three) horsepower and allows you to delete the mechanical fan completely .

The only thing is even with a relay still need to update the charging system, a lot of the old trucks were generator or the wimpy 37/60 amp alts. I upgraded to a 100 amp 12si style.

Actually ;

A standard GM Delcotron SI alternator from any old dead Chevy will do just fine .

Your 100 Ampere alternator only puts out what is necessary and 100 amperes is never necessary so 90 % of the time , it's putting out 15 ~ 20 amperes tops .

IIRC the 1989 V6 Camaro has a 65 +/- ampere alternator , I always use & suggest this because it's available EVERYWHERE off the shelf , is dirt cheap and uber reliable . plenty of power to run the AC . killer stereo , power windows , halogen headlights on and on and....

As long as the battery remains properly charged you're good to go .

I do understand the want to have over capacity but many here just want turn key old trucks they can drive/work/play with / in .

Came home from the paint jail today. One month and three days early...July 26-August 23.

I have a bunch of detail work to do. Clean up the bed. Put the wood floor back in clean up a little polishing compound around the windows and in the seams.
Put the new and newly painted to match solid (no turn signal holes) front bumper on, and a few other little things.

I'll post pics tomorrow. Too tired and excited to take 'em this evening.

My painter experience had, up to now, been the same as most of yours. Before I met Lee The Painter. Body work was replacing a pass. rocker (that I supplied), welding up a
bunch of holes, including some strange ones up behind my head on the cab, pulling out bondo from here and there, re-doing doors that I'd paid a schmuck $300 to do, took it all
down to metal, skimmed it and shot it with eight coats of primer that mostly got sanded off. Color and clear in high quality paint.

$4,500 plus $320 in extras that came up as surprises to him as he found them.

I gave him four silver 1" x 3" plaques I had engraved, "PAINT BY LEE MOISANT", but kept one for my own truck. Gave him a $100 "thank you" bonus. And a lower end,
but very good, Yamaha acoustic guitar with the promise of at least ten 1/2 hour guitar lessons....if he wants 'em.

So, even though it wasn't a $15,000 paint and body job which would qualify for SEMA show time (even though the truck..with a $15,000 paint job wouldn't even be
allowed in the parking lot), it's better than the paint on my fairly new daily-driving Japanese Altima Hybrid.

Now, off to a car show tomorrow to get some pinstripe ideas.

Just wanted to tell the tale of paint. Guess they don't ALL turn out bad, huh? Could'a fooled me before today.

I got seriously pi$$ed off about the oil fouling spark plugs in my 250 I6 , popped the hood and decided to set the ignition timing where I think it belongs instead of the book's emission compliant 0° BTDC .

It was right at 100° F and I had no shade so after burning my fingers a fair bit I stopped when it was @ 6° BTDC , I'd wanted 4° but what the heck , right ? .

Now , it idles much smoother and has much more power , starts easier when hot and even runs cooler (retarded ignition lowers NOX emissions , that's why they like it so much)

I'm a Journeyman Mechanic but I also like to try and follow the ding-dang book even though I know better having had GM/ Delco training back in the day .

Anyways , it runs tops again so I guess my search for a 292 engine continues ~ I have no troubles finding them but the sellers (ALL of them , are flakes and nuts ~ they post an advert to sell but when I call up and say " I have CASH and a truck , they begin tap dancing , hemming and hawing , what all else ~ I've been in The Auto Trade most of my life and I never , EVER give The Customer the run around ~ either you're in business to sell or not ~ MAKE UP YOUR MIND dangit .

Oops , ranting again , aren't I ? :waah: .

Anyways , I need a complete 292 and I will come fetch it ~ I even found one in MEXICO for dirt cheap and he flaked out .

I feel ya bro....I once test drove this guy's 1976 Pontiac Bonneville and made an appointment with him to buy it twice and both times he flaked. He later hunted me down and called me (at my job back then) but I was so fed up with him by that time that I told him to get lost. Some people.....looking back I probably should have gone for it but oh well.

All I got done today was I picked up the NAPA version of the carb rebuild kit and float and this time, inspecting the box before leaving the store (see I am learning!) it seems unopened and the float is brass not plastic, :metal: I am therefore happier for having to return the kit from Advanced Auto.

I hope to drop both carb and kit off to a garage for the rebuild Monday, unless I change my mind and (after quickly manning up) deciding to do it myself.

Moved my shifter back 6" so it would clear the new A/C vents I am going to install.
Ran the speaker wires so when the carpet is in I don't have to fish them under the carpet.
Finished installing the seat belts.
Opened the box with the carpet to ensure it is for a high hump (2nd attempt, lat one was not).
Taking it to the upholsterer early next week to get it installed.
The fan in the picture is to keep the 103 degree air moving.

Worked it!!! This a wall my Grandpa had built in the 1930's that was going to be dozed and filled over. I have been hauling 1 to 2 truckloads every Sat. One more load next week and I will have it finished. Noticed I have a axel seal leaking,will have to get that fixed this week.

In the last week spent over $2000 in parts for it.. time to rebuild the hubs, brakes, ball joints, u joints, steering ect.. and a lot of other stuff too.

My truck had a new looking alternator and regulator when I got it. However, I was "boiling the battery" and puking water/acid. Instead of dropping $26 on a regulator and hoping to fix it, I decided to just upgrade the alternator. I think it was quicker swapping out the alternator than changing the regulator, too.

Between yesterday and today, I put about 350 miles on the truck. Running good so far, and putting out a nice, steady 14.5-14.6 volts.

I upgraded my other 67 to a HEI, but not sure if I'm going to on this. Hoping the points last until I can do my LS swap in the spring.

I took my little boy fishing today behind one of the shut down cottom mills around here, and snapped a pic with the old mill in the backdrop. Also picked a new radio with a FM converter.

Put the wood back in...Cleaning up after getting out of the paint shop.

My Low-tech home improvement wood bed will have to do for now.
Down the road? Who knows?

Tough to beat the cost...And in-and-out in about an hour. I numbered all the pieces so it fit right back together...snap, snap, snap...screw, screw, screw (about ten screws in the aluminum strips).
Forty bucks the first run and $0 every other time she's in and out.....:lol::lol::lol:

I installed my new-to-me tube grill. Had to fab some mounting brackets, but it wasn't too bad.

Today I installed the big brake kit on the '67. Used the modular drop kit from CPP. Everything fits really well and I got the extra clearance that I needed:

Plumbed in my Hurst roll controlled and Wildwood proportioning valve.. Hopefully I'll be able to bleed the brakes after work today..

NO NO NO ! .

YOU will do a batter rebuild / overhaul job because you care ~ When I bought this rig it had a freshly rebuilt carby on it , sticker and all , it ran O.K. , not great ~ when I got it home and took the carby apart I found the metering rod was BENT from the DPM having not bothered to pay attention when he put the top of the carby back on ~ in these fine Aluminum Mono Jet Rochester carbys , the main jet has a metering rod that hangs down so you must be very careful when re assembling else it'll not line up in the hole and never be right .

FWIW , NAPA Carby kits & parts are made by TOMCO , this is good stuff ~ you can buy floats for rather old Chevys as well as kits .

Even if you get 1/2 way through the carby overhaul and get scared , just gently wrap it all up and then let the Garage Man try - I really think you'll do a better job , judging by the ham - fisted crap I have to straighten out most of the time .

Pulled the tires off unbolted the calipers and left the truck on jack stands so i could start my Ball joint, hub bearing and brake replacement, then left for work in my other truck and stopped at the post office to check for mail, only to have my ign switch jam up solid, walked home 3 miles and got the spare key and a ride to my truck, spare key didn't help so after getting my truck towed to the dealer which was an ordeal in itself i came home and put everything on my 72 back together so i would have a truck to drive again, in other words my day sucked and was pretty expensive too.

Installed some functional mirrors as opposed to my oreilly's cheap useless mirrors. Its a slightly tweaked set off of my friend's 79 C10. Not the usual spot but they're where I like em. Hit em with some dark gray spray before I put em on.

It looks like I finally found a 292 ~

So now I have to clean out the cab then check the front brakes , replace the grease seals and generally clean it up and make ready for a two day road trip .

I don't suppose anyone here knows what the correct 292 color was in 1969 ? .

I know it was GMC RED in the early to mid 1960's but by the end of production it was CHEVROLET 6 BLUE so I'm not sure what color to use in my base green '69 C/10 ....
