Hope to make it close to this with water soluble dye . First is a dark walnut application then sanded with 220 paper then a cherry red is applied and sanded again then a yellow with no sanding then top coated .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
All kinds of ways to make curly maple pop. Quarter-sawn white oak, the same. I have pieces of both that I've bought over the years just for the figure. I need to start using that stuff up before I die and my family uses it for firewood. I bought some 8/4 walnut to make a cover for our doorbell chime, and ended up buying the entire plank because there was some really wild grain at one end. I plan to make a stock for my Ruger K10/22T carbine, as soon as I figure out the comb height. I bought a thumbhole stock because my arthritic hands fit that better, so I have that part of the design figured out. Too many other projects in front of that one. Retired and bored? Don't make me laugh, I put off enough projects when I was working to last me another 20 years.
Back on topic, I went to a coffee and cars meet this morning, with a basketball for the xmas toy drive. Some crazy nice vehicles there, for sure. Met a guy with a '68 El Camino SS396 that he bought new. If we only knew then, when we bought these treasures... |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
If I had only bought a warehouse coming out of high school I'd still have every vehicle I ever bought. They were special when I bought them and special when I sold them.
Back 30+ years ago I did the kitchen in this house. I had maple and oak to make the countertop and I ended up going with oak |

Test board came out pretty much exactly what I was going for. It’s only got one coat of Waterlox on it so it’s still a little flat .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
That's going to be a beautiful countertop. A funny thing is I made a top from recycled old growth white oak for a customer. It came out beautiful. But I can never get a good picture of it because it's always cluttered with kitchen stuff being a kitchen countertop

Mom called said she broke her shower door . Seems she has been using a bench in the shower . No big deal but she was using the door rail on the glass door to get up . Well the door was only off the track .I installed a proper grab rail this way she can use it standing or getting up from the bench

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I put a couple of bars in the shower for my Mom. She so appreciated them. Living by herself, it was important for me to do and felt bad I hadn't thought of it before.

That counter came out nicely. It will be a pleasure at Christmas time.

Waterlox is good stuff. I'm repairing and re-finishing plaster walls that I stripped the paneling and wallpaper from. I should be putting primer on today. Pictures do this work no justice. You just end up with nice smooth and flat walls that look better than drywall.
How about that paint job under the paneling on the doors? Yesterday she told me she needs it done for her brother's birthday party on the 14th. I hope to prime today and start trim carpentry. I have to rebuild those steps in the corner and get a finish on that, too |

Wasn't today but last week. Not really able to use computer since then, now just a bit until it becomes too sore. Plenty of people have gone through way worse things than this, but for me this was my first time in the hospital except maybe getting a couple stitches when I was a kid.
Been fighting neck, shoulder, and arm issues for a long time. Finally after months of Dr this, Dr that, I was able to get started on feeling better. I had issues with 4-7 out of whack in my neck. Some major pressing on my spinal cord. Dr did some drilling and grinding. Now I have a bunch of screws in there along with a new kind of cage. Tons of people in the operating room. Even the rep that sells the cage was there, so he could see it in action I guess. Five hours later ... done. I have to wear this huge neck brace for 6 weeks. Can only take it off when showering and eating. (eating is no solids yet), even have to wear it to bed, which is super uncomfortable since Ive never been able to sleep on my back. No driving either. Next its PT, and from the feel of things so far I may have to have more work on my shoulder. What really sucks is this is all on my right side, and I'm right handed. Pic of my neck brace and my neck slash |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Oh man, here's to healing quickly and correctly, and being able to sleep :)
