Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I looked at my still loaded truck in SWMBO's garage and wished Joey hadn't worked too hard and broken two of the screws in his spine so he wasn't convalescing from yet another back sugery and I could go borrow the towable cherrypicker and get the 292 out of my truck so I can begin working on it and working my trcuk again... :waah:
I have a 150 # Moto that needs to go to the CHP for VIN inspection to - day and I can't find anyone to truck it there for me ,I might have to rent a U-Haul pickup else I'll have to push it 5 miles each way in this dang heat..... Yes , I am whining again , I'll stop now . |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Mine just went to 316. Woo hoo.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I'm on 316 now too, You can still see the new posts..
I looked around for my OBD port. Who ever put the TBI 350 in my truck needs to never ever touch a wrench again. I can't get the truck to start anymore, I had it running a week ago though it wouldn't go far before it died. I put a new battery, new fuel pump, filter in and now it wont start at all. I dropped the old fuel pump in and it still wont start. I rebuilt the TBI and the pressure regulator, replaced the spring in there as well. I haven't got the parts to check my fuel pressure yet but I can see fuel coming out of the injectors, I've also got spark, and it will run off of starting fluid. Anyone here good with TBI? This is the first one I have wrenched on. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Forgot to mention that I've got new(a few years old but never ran) plugs, wires, dist. cap and I used my DMM to check my ignition coil and it tested good.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Removed my spare tire and its carrier to give me easy access for my drop shackles install.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Oh good! I'm glad I am not the only one that was stuck on page 315!
A friend came over who was an army heavy vehicle mechanic for 15 years. We got the old cab-to-frame bushings out AND he resorted to using my dremel tool after exhausting himself with my chisels. He dove right in there and all I had to do was hold the flashlight. He's a heck of a guy. I'll post pics later....my front bushings fell into dust! The back ones are OK but WE CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW THE NEW ONES GO IN. I'm posting pics tomorrow asking for advice. Finished my flip down ashtray mod for the FM converter. I didn't want to cut up the factory ashtray, so cut up another one and painted it silver/textured black to match the glovebox door and gauge cluster.

Re : _Slight_ Progress !
Yes , I hauled it over 450 miles.... as it's fully dresed I was worried it'd fall over & bend the dizzy or summat stupid like that .
It's sitting in a big 15" truck tire then I added four straps . To - day my Son came by and we went to Joey's home shop (it's very nice to be a zillionaire and be able to play away every day) , borrowed his portable cherry picker , went home and unloaded the 292 , I'll return the cherry picker to - morrow and on Friday I'll prolly go yank a '61 Met 1500 engine out of a parts car & haul that home . you're right : no rest , no rest atall but then I like it that way , I dislike being idle , busy hands stay out of mischief (mostly) . I really like that two tone white cab paint ! I'm off and on again with doing that to my C/10 when I find a decent cab (hint) as it really cuts down the cab temperature in the Desert . |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Last night: Changed the oil, topped off the tranny fluid, replaced the air filter, pcv valve, and breather. Cleaned the valve covers (inside and out), installed new valve cover gaskets and grommets, wiped down the engine, and cleaned the air cleaner.
Tonite: Give the 350 a full tune up. Wash the truck and clean out the inside. Tomorrow morning: Get two new tires and an alignment, load up the ice chest and the toolbox, then I'm gonna head down to Escondido, CA for the Cruisin' Grand: C-10 Club Night. |

yes the white cab is cooler in the summer, after it cools off a little later this year I am going to try and fix all the damager from the bad storm we had a few months ago, top, hood, left side of ole dollor got a lot of scratches, and I will need to do some sanding and repaint . like you said ...no rest for this guy.... |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
It's been a busy few weeks with my love affair with mine. I had a section of fuel line break on me and it prompted me to look at other areas of the truck. It was purchased in the west side (dry side) of Idaho, so I think that or the use of ethanol over the years. I replaced the line and then all of the heater and radiator hoses to new. In doing so I added the retro "tower" style clamps and separated the heater hoses with a nice billet piece. Also - fixed the power steering pump squeal by adding two new belts to the dual pulley. Changed the alternator belt for good measure. The rears of the valve covers are leaking bad, so hopefully the new gaskets I just bought will solve that. The internal regulator on the old alternator is acting up, so a new chrome Powermaster arrives tomorrow, along with a new chrome mount and turnbuckle style tensioner. The old girl is looking good!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I drove it in the 96° ~ 100° F heat , only the cherry picker in the bed .
I thought about maybe finding an AC Cab and adding AC to it..... It runs nice and I like it as is but I oughta be able to cobble up some seriously cold & dry AC in there , it's not a big space . |

Gotta go stock? If not, I know you'd have fun hooking this up to your sixer. But I bet you could fab it for a lot less $$$$. That's your art. I went with this one. Ahhhh...Only one gen earlier. http://tinyurl.com/lksx2hw |
Re : Adding AC
Yeah ;
It's actually pretty simple once you figure out the brackets and Japanese Sanden compressor . Then a BIG condenser , buncha hoses and crap . The hard part for me is figuring out the dash and evaporator ~ there used to be many different aftermarket kits with under dash or floor mount evaporator and fan/vents , gotta figure out to use one of those or a factory AC cab with the built in dash vents..... I'm too old & fat for no AC too but , well , I dunno . My brother who often travels with me , said emphatically " NO MORE TRIPS WITHOUT AC !! " ~ even though the dead simple AC in both his old Mercedes and the Hearse seized up the Delco R4 AC compressor while he was driving them , I have new compressors , flushing kits and so on but still ,my driveway is full of my junk , not his unless it's tune up or oil leak time . go figure . |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Nate : the under dash a/c works real good. its just hangs down a little, you can also get a slim line that goes across the dash more . any a/c is better than none, but built in is the best for more room in the cab.

Sold my dually a couple weeks ago since I wasn't using it for its purpose and bought a '71 Chevy which was an older body on paint job. Rust free and solid drivetrain which is all I wanted. Came with chrome rims and just swapped them out today for some steelies to give it a more retro muscle look. :metal:

Installed a pair of 73-80 styled front tow hooks on the rear underneath the bed for rear tow hooks. Have a step bumper on my 4x4 and after crawling under and doing some measuring got REALLY lucky and the hole pattern on the tow hooks matched up to the hole pattern on the rear bumper supoorts. Here's a couple pics. Pardon the darkness of them, if other pics are wanted let me know and will try again. Don't really hang down very low at all and just enough to reach under to install a tow strap if needed. Pointed the opening of the hook toward front of truck.

Spent all afternoon dealing with overspray. I probably have a couple of weeks of dealing with my anal-retentive side of the cosmetics. Funny thing is, she'll always be a RAT. And a driver.
But, I guess it gives me something to do. Painter Lee liked to overspray clear on my brand new suspension parts. I don't know what will take it off, if anything. What's on the firewall is coming clean with a combo of different polishing compounds. But., I'm not laying under the truck to massage the brand new ECE anti-sway bar with rubbing compound. Driver. Maybe I'll try some acetone in light doses. I won't hit that powder coating with lacquer thinner, though. Oh, well. :waah: |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Unsurprisingly , I drove it far away , East to pick up a load of vintage engine parts , stopping by a little place I noticed a long bed '72 Chevy C/20 sitting on nearly flat tires , it has gaping holes in the top of the cab and dents all 'round the bed , a 350 V-8 and Muncie SM465 tranny , no nuttin' else .
$500 , two owner , decades old tags but he says he has a title or paperwork (they're NOT they same thing) , I go back there in a week or three and will take my monkey suit so I can climb around it in the leaves , grease , dust & spiders , see if it's worth anything . On the way home I found an '82 G/10 Van with 250 I6 and some things I want to grab to - morrow morning . Hot , yes indeedy but any day working with my Brother and in a Chevrolet Light Duty Truck is to be cherished . How was Escondido ? . |
