The decisions you are going to face are how deep, how long, and how much do I need to do versus how much can I do versus how much do I want to do ??

Fun times.... I think Coulter can chime in on this one: of sitting and just staring at your truck and day dreaming of the things you could do with it :smoke:

Hey Michael, how true.

Bought a new 130psi pressure cleaner for all our paving, driveway etc and of course the truck when needed.
Tried it out last night, works a treat. Also stripped all the cement overflow/smear from the original driveway where I widened it to accomodate the truck. Cleaned the garage door, paving in front of garage after backing truck into garage. Amazing power, I love good tools.

I just came into London by train and underground tube to work for the day at Royal London Hospital and later at Charing Cross Hospital with a colleague for a Microbiology meeting. Had planned on reading a clinical trial....... Hmmmmmm?? No Siree..... Read a magazine and sat planning my trucks repaint and various other jobs.
The things we can do to our trucks really are only limited by time, imagination and funds.
I will PM you in a moment regarding the PS pump.

Was on Ebay looking for a steel boat fuel tank when I saw a blue one like this over in Missouri that remonded me I had bought one last year for about $7.50
I had tried to give it to a buddy for his car, but he eas not interested at the time (thankfully) so now I have it for our truck.
I am still going to investigate a nice old boat tank, possibly modded with a better neck safely welded or brazed on. Then pinstriped etc.

Right, the decission has already been made to bring our plan of action forward by three years.
Due to unforseen circumstance and unfortunate rear ending of the truck 10 minutes after buying it (you could not make it up this good) by my wife..... In 30 years of driving she has never even hit a shopping trolley. So of course we were both gutted when we saw that the rear bumper had dented the rear light panel bent itself and pushed the rear fender out over the wheel, cracking the paint over the chassis stay. Tough luck ehhh?? We have decided that rather than me do the repaint myself in three years, I will find someone who can repair rust, multiple dents, dings and scratches sooner than planned and of course at our own expense.
It means denting our unemployment backup savings, but it is a priority, RIGHT?

I am planning on stripping and refitting the major bits like chrome, lights, grille, bumpers etc to try contain costs.
Plan is a cab on respray with rear body off. This is and will stay a driver and "working truck"


My question today is this.....

Just how hard is it to remove all the chrome side trim etc without destroying it?

Our trucks side trim is actually quite damaged but there is no way I can afford to replace the whole set with new.

The bits I am concerned about are by the door lock on the body etc.

Happy for all advice, links, videos, photos and laughter at the situation that got us here.

Congrats on the new truck! Overall it looks nice. I agree about previous owners, using explosives to cut holes it seems.

I have a stepside so can't really advise on the trim removal. Too bad about the accident but there is a silver lining, you are going to get some work done quickly. Looking forward to where your build goes.

Nuts on the front fenders, pull out on the doors, have to squeeze little clips from the back side on the smaller piece on the bed...but not to bad. Wee little hands help.

Not just someone, my wife !!!

Anyway, that has just incentivised me to get the truck sorted sooner.

In the mean time I have been playing with some other ideas.

With the New Grizz Redneck Express truck, I want to increase my fuel capacity (well, at least create a decent backup for long trips)

I want to take a 20 litre steel boat petrol tank and change the neck on it, and make a jerry can for the truck.

I am not sure I want to plumb it into the system, rather have it loose so that it does not take up space in the rear when not needed.

However, at times like taking the truck and Grizz-Pod Trailer to meetings, it would be nice to have some backup fuel stashed in something other than a plastic Jerry can.

I plan on changing the filler neck safely to get a better pouring spout.

Any leads, tips and advice, or petrol tanks appreciated.

Got these in the post today from Barney, along with a January 2010 copy of a Hot Rod magazine with a pic of the truck at the 1066 get together being used as a stage for the drummer on the Memphis Flyers Rockabilly band, anyone tell me what they are for ? ;)

Those rubber things in your hand are the door stop bumpers.
Just above and below the door latch, in the side of the cab, next to the door seal, there should be one.
Two on each door jamb, on both sides of the truck.

If they are not there already, then there will be holes for them to pop into.

You will want an LMC catalog.
Not only is it a decent source for parts, but the catalog serves as a guide to where stuff goes. Particularly rubber bumpers, seals and pads.

How bad? You can buy some of the individual pieces. I'm going through the buy vs. repair decision. I know it can be repaired, it's a question of how much work needs to go into it.

Markb did a great "show and tell" on how to repair dented chrome trim in his thread. All you need are a few tools and some polishing gear if I remember correctly...

Sunday evening 23.00 here in the United Kingdom.

Great weather all weekend, got some stuff done to the truck as well.

Firstly, went out shopping in it yesterday with Nicola who still refuses to drive it, but I live in hope.

She seemed to enjoy herself all day, sitting up like a Meerkat on speed.

Back home I had a few bits of cosmetic work planned, also a few pics to take to show the relocated fuel tank.

Fuel filler sensibly placed inside, but on the side of the bed, with cap halfway up the side.

No idea what this tank came from, but it fits just right.
Also note the rear lowering blocks.

Next job was to clean up and repaint the rear bumper.

I also removed the American trailer plug unit, to be replaced with a European one.

The next job I started at about 11.30 today, after bootfair etc.

Nicola had suggested that I go and T-Cut (mildly abbrassive polish to remove oxidized paint) the truck after washing it yesterday.

Started with paint on the flat surfaces that looked like this......

It seems most are black.

My truck has so muuch over spray, it needed to be sorted sooner than later.

So out came all my old painting sheets....masking tape and soon the front end looked like this, after a lot of cleaning surfaces etc.

When I look at all the inspirational builds on here, the least I can do is to try to keep up.
I cannot afford a high dollar truck, so just need to make the most of what I have.
I know how rough the cosmetics are on the truck, so everything I do however small makes it better for us.

Thank you. 07.00 on a stunning Monday morning. Suspect it will be a hot one again.
As mentioned above, I know everything I get done is an improvement.
The only clip I have currently is on page one when I brought the truck in the first time.

I am sure I can get Nicola to do a short clip of the engine.
The biggest problem is loading them up on Youtube.
