Re: Project: LS1ick68
Progress!! I was getting some floor work done on our house, so I took a vacation day yesterday. I don't really like bugging people or getting in their way when they're working, so I worked in the garage.
I pushed the truck out so I had more room. I cleaned and prepped the block deck surface. Then, I cleaned, prepped, and masked the block and heads for paint, primered and painted them. With etching primer............. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2004.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2006.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2007.jpg .............and, with fresh paint. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2011.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2013.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2017.jpg I also got in some more new parts. ECE 2" drop springs http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2020.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2019.jpg New aluminum radiator. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2016.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2015.jpg Figured I better test fit the radiator. It fits!! http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2008.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2009.jpg |
Re: Project: LS1ick68
I really like that radiator... Where did you get that? You gonna be ok running the coolant hose all the way to the other side?
|
Re: Project: LS1ick68
I got the radiator from Dave's Truck Parts in Claremont, NC. It cost me $260+$18 for shipping.
|
Re: Project: LS1ick68
Is it a direct fit for our trucks? I just wish the top hose would be on the pass. side
|
Re: Project: LS1ick68
I am glad I finally found this.... Good job so far. Its good to see that this motor will actually be put to good use instead of collecting dust in my garage.

Re: Project: LS1ick68
Got my intake in and painted. I also cut off that goofy looking mounting tab on the front runner tube.
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2024.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2025.jpg Do you guys like the Gray/aluminum two-tone, or all aluminum color? http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2022.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2027.jpg My camshaft also came in. It's slightly used, but It's a custom COMP grind. 232/240 dur. @.050 .580/.580 lift 110+2 http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2029.jpg My POL tubular engine towers also finally arrived. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2030.jpg I've recieved a few other parts not pictured. -Carter electric fuel pump -used truck accessory drive system(it's being cleaned) -oil pressure and water temp sender adapter fittings and an oil level sensor plug from Speedway I'm hoping to decide on new valve covers today and order them, and go pick up all the gaskets I need today. |
Re: Project: LS1ick68

Re: Project: LS1ick68
Nice cam specs- should lumpy and high-winding. What's the part number on that oil level plug?
Looking good! |
Re: Project: LS1ick68
cam is close to mine with just a little less lift. Should make good power for you!

Re: Project: LS1ick68
The big brown truck showed up again today!!
I was going to try to do something with the stock valve covers, but I just wasn't "feeling it" with them. So, I decided to bite the bullet and get these. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...LS1/LS1098.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...LS1/LS1099.jpg I'm certainly Feeling it, now! :metal: http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...LS1/LS1101.jpg Also got some plug wires and boots. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...LS1/LS1100.jpg Got to deliver fuel somehow! http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...LS1/LS1103.jpg Test fit! This is a 570 Street Avenger that I had on my old 350. I have a feeling it may be a bit wheezy on this LS1, but I'm going to stick with it, at least until the initial tuning and first drives are done, then I may upgrade. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...LS1/LS1104.jpg I also went and picked up all the gaskets I'll be needing. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...LS1/LS1102.jpg Got my water pump, dampener and PS pulley(not shown) painted. I'm in the process of cleaning the truck alt./PS pump bracket. I may see if I can do some custom bracket fab, though to get a cleaner look. I'll make that final decision soon. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...LS1/LS1107.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...LS1/LS1108.jpg BTW, I'm having a 700R4 transmission built with a 2800 stall converter. I'll probably be switching out the 3.07 gears to 4.10 gears. |
Re: Project: LS1ick68
It's coming along nice.

Re: Project: LS1ick68
I'm fixing to drop in the engine for a test fit today.

Re: Project: LS1ick68
motor looks sweet......you're going to need more carb tho!
|
Re: Project: LS1ick68
Im interested in your old cam if you are getting rid of it, its looking great and your making good progress. If I would have seen those mounts and how fast you got them I would have went with them, its been a week already and cpp just shipped mine today.....
BTW your truck is definitely clean |
Re: Project: LS1ick68
Sorry double post

Re: Project: LS1ick68
Got her set in, even if for only and hour or so. I was checking for all clearances. The truck oil pan hangs about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2" below the crossmember. I'm going to do some checking around, but I may switch to an F-body pan.
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2052.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2053.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2054.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2057.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2058.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2055.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...1/100_2056.jpg |
Re: Project: LS1ick68
that looks awesome man!....I dont like the news about your pan tho...
|
Re: Project: LS1ick68
mine does about the same...haven't decided how to correct it but it isn't low enough to cause a problem with the area speed bumps...so far.
|
Re: Project: LS1ick68
looks like a nice build going here man
|
Re: Project: LS1ick68
my pan was too low also so I did the swap to the camaro pan. Helped a ton on clearance. Looking good.
|
Re: Project: LS1ick68
Yeah, I think I'm going to swap to an F-body pan. Speed bumps don't worry me, it's the uneven surfaces if I have to pull off the pavement or drive up on a curb.
|
Re: Project: LS1ick68
Are you going run those manifolds?.. Please tell me no!! Not bashing you but this is to nice of a build to me to run those, not to mention you won't get the full potential out of your cam with them.
