Cool trucks.Randy, here`s the brother to your friend`s rig:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...7/IMG_1287.jpg Those woodies I got off the computer. The car woody wagon is a Mercury.I did see that one at the Santa Cruz Woodys show in`03.That one and the Ford sedan are Marmon-Harrington conversions. As much as I love GMs,I can`t believe that when that Mercury was restored they put a chevy 350 in it.He said he did it to make it more roadworthy.Roadworthy?Where does he drive it that the original flathead V8 wouldn`t and I doubt it hardly gets driven.I`m just saying a car of that caliber should have the correct motor.I saw it listed for sale later that summer for $250,000.Now,do you see what I mean about the chevy motor? For 1/4million I`d want it correct. I bought my first set of those Armstrongs from Cepek in`78 when they started making them.I waited 6 month for them to come out.I think I bought 5 sets all together by the time they stopped making them.I really liked them.I lifted that truck w/o a lift kit and cut the fenders to fit them.I took the front leaves out, arched one main leaf to desired arc(anvil & sledge hammer),matched the other side, matched the rest of the leaves...instant lift, caveman style. On the back I cut and welded pieces of leaf together to make blocks. There was nothing made for that truck. |

This is a rare XM 757 made for the military by Ford. It can be shifted to 8wd. The dark unit on the front is a water cannon! It's a craigslist item I found. Not mine. Wish it was!

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

That 8wd would make a great wildfire rig. Modern classic Fords: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...920800x600.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ronze_Left.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...Brown20040.jpg |

My first truck was a 1977 Dodge power wagon M882. 5/4 ton 4x4. I have a vintage photo of her in the govt. trim. I know it has a 1980's front clip. That old ex military powerwagon was tough as nails and could climb anything with its dana 60 front and dana 70 rear. Now I have a 1956 Willys wagon. She is a 28,XXX original mile stocker except for a chevy 327 now 350 transplant. I wnat to say the gearing is around 5:88's and this thing can climb straight up a hill
Sorry no new photos but this is where I found here sleeping in a barn for the past 30 years. I need to get new pictures one of these days(2 years old) .............. http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...HWillys008.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...spickup015.jpg Here was my parts 1962 willys pick up that got scrapped... http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ck-upfront.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...llyspickup.jpg Oh and my newest project..... 77 K10 http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...update1002.jpg |

Very cool thread guys! That tundra machine sounds like a cool story. Up until I heard that it ended up on the bottom of the ocean floor. :(

Hey 68,69K20, thanks for the plug!!!! My brother and I own the brown and white 73 Bronco at the bottom of your post. That photo was from the second of three magazines it was in. That was in the Dec 2000 Collectible Automobile. It was also in the spring 97 Open Road and later in the May/June Motor trend Classic. It currently has only 48,000 original miles. It recieved only a cosmetic restoration.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
My brother-in-law (& friend) bought a sweet brown w/white `77 Bronco Explorer (didn`t they have that package?) back in the mid-80s.It was unusual to see one that wasn`t rusted and even more unusual the rear wheel openings were still uncut. It still had stock hubcaps and whitewalls.I was proud that he left the wells stock, ordered 16" stocker wheels and ran tall skinnies. He should have kept that thing.
