Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
So I'm not totally sure where this leaves me... At least I know the head is bad.
The total condition of the block is yet to be determined... |
Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
Well if you could somehow make it down to San Jose, I have a couple of good running 250 I-6s that you can have.

Picked up a "rebuildable core" motor from a local salvage yard.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
The "new" engine upon inspection:
Bored 30 over (not real happy with the condition of the cylinders, may need to be rebored) Crank turned under (can't remember how much, it might be .010) (not in great shape) Not really sure where I'm going with all this at this time... |
Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
While you're figuring it out, do that rig a favor and vacuum all those pine needles out of it and give it a wash. That stuff is acidic and by the time you've got the motor figured out the rest of the truck might be gone, haha. If we weren't in the middle of covid, I'd see about snagging Mikentosh's motors for you. I have family down there and have to drive by you to get there. But I usually don't take a truck. Who knows when that plan becomes viable though. In the meantime, it would be cool to see your truck sparkle a little while you make your motor plan. Good luck!

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
Update: Yesterday I dropped my engine block off at a local machine shop to get rebored.
Going to have to do .060 over. I just have to get my pistons before He can start boring. Just a few things I have to figure out before I order my pistons. |

Got my block back from the shop today!:)
Bored .060 over. Also had them fit the rods to the new pistons and had the crank polished. |
Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
Well sometime ago I accidently goofed up my crankshaft. Was total stupidity on my part.
Called machine shop to get it fixed and he said they won't be able to do crankshafts for sometime. (This was over a month ago now) I got to find another machine shop or call the other one again and see if he can do it now. Just kinda got bummed out for a while but gonna try to get back on it here soon. |
Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
:chevy:Hang in there, my 350 spent 5 months at the machine shop.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
Well getting back on this again!
Finally! I have all six pistons in, just have to get my cam and oil pump in and I'll be able to button the bottom end up! Also I picked up another head from the machine shop for $150. It has new valves & guides in it I just have to clean it up a bit, just dust and some suface rust. It had been laying around for a while. The head that came with the block needs major overhaul and the guy at the shop quoted something like over $200 to have it done. I've already got more money involved in this thing then I planed so I will just save the head that needs work for something else in case I need it. Anyway moving along! I will try to post some pics soon. |
Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
Wow guess it's been a year already since I last posted!?
Trying to get back on this thing! Hopefully I will have some updates in a few days. Still need to put the timing cover and oil pan on! 2022 has been a rough year for me, I lost both my Grandmother and Grandfather in February, so dealing with that loss plus fighting depression off and on as well as other personal things. Life sure has it's ups and downs. So anyway... :chevy: |

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
Hi everyone, Oil pan is on (still need to take a pic) Got sorta hung up on problems with my head (the engines head) (although I'm sure mine is questionable sometimes )
The head is currently at the machine shop getting re-surfaced. Other than the head there is not to much left I have to do before stuffing the engine back in the truck, just a few small things. One thing I'm not sure about is painting as the weather is kinda cold for that now. I wish I would have got that done back in summer but I guess I'll figure something out. Hope everyone is having a happy Thanksgiving!:chevy: |
Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe
