Capacity = 1 shed. Probably 0.75 sheds in reality but made it the 3 miles home from the lumber yard.

Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
You might change your mind about replacing the flat bed now.
Now the work begins. I bought a 12'x20' shed a few years ago and all I had to do was write them a check and show them where to set it down when it arrived. Everyone reminded me that I could have built one for less but this was so much easier. |
Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
Wow. That truck is a work horse! :metal: it's cool that you ended up keeping it.

Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
Hell ya man, I love to see these old trucks working!

Thanks guys! Yeah, she works well. The flat bed is in pretty tough shape or I might keep it. Hopefully the springs return to shape once the load is off. No truck projects for a weekend or two. Time to pound nails. I'm sure by the end I'll be wishing for that prefab model!

Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
Moved any snow so far this season? We just got over a foot.
|
Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
I wish we would get some snow! Only a few inches, but I stuck the gopro on when I plowed the inlaws' driveway. Boring, but listening to the 292 never gets old for me.

Took the plow truck in for a well deserved oil change and defrost. I need a garage... the filter looked like it was from the 90's and oil was black as far. I didn't change it when I drove it home last year because it showed next service almost 3k out by sticker on the dash and oil was fairly clean.

I must have really been in a hurry when I bought it because I didn't even notice the treasures in the glove box. Owners manual, service interval bulletin, engineering drawings for the flatbed and GM cab and chassis specifications for incomplete delivery. Score!

Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
This truck is TOO damn cool. I have never seen a 292 k30 so i have to build one. i even want the same color and everything! Love the truck and the plow video!

Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
Thanks! I really like driving it. It does what it's designed to do very well. Never going to go down the highway at 80 or pull a horse trailer, but it pushes snow great.

Time to push a little snow... truck ran great but the plow developed a few problems. Doesn't want to angle left and flops around like a limp noodle side to side when pushing. Meyer still does a good job of putting old service manuals on their web site so I can trouble shoot it and hopefully make the repair. They are really pretty simple.

Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
That looks like too much fun! A buddy of mine has a plow on an old square sitting in his grove, I would love to put a plow on my winter beater, but driveway is small and I don't need a bunch of new friends every time it snows. I love the way the cab lights look, cool truck.

Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
She looks good plowing snow.
Have you changed the oil in the plow yet? A little water in it can be a big pain. It tends to get in through the full vent on top or by the seal on the ram. An easy way to determine if you got water is to park it inside and allow it to warm up. Try using it and if it works well until it gets cold, it's likely water in the oil. It wouldn't hurt to remove the solinoid/ valve assembly's and make sure they're clean. Also there's a couple of filters that you'll want to pull and clean on the base of the pump. |
Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
Thanks for the pointers. I dropped the oil and replaced the filters yesterday. Also pulled the fittings off the power angle cylinders emptied and filled them. Left angle is what was sticking so I tried to pull the A solenoid. Need a deeper 1 1/4" socket so didn't get that done. Put it all back together and she worked like a champ! Pulled out of the shop and it still worked. Drove 10 minutes home at -31F and no left angle. I think the A solenoid is sticking or weak so I'm going to get the right tool and take it apart. Maybe I just shouldn't plow at -30...

another great story. subbed.

Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
Reminds me of a plow truck I built back in 2010.

Re: 1984 K30 Project Plow Truck
I remember your build! Still have Cletus and pushing lots of snow? We are supposed to get a foot tomorrow and I can't wait. I'm sitting at the shop getting the cold front put on my crew right now but should be fixing a couple nagging problems with this truck instead...
