Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
The seats are fairly easy to find within a 150 mile radius. The problem is that they were offered in 3 colors in cloth and 2 in leather so finding the same combo is a waiting game. Just waiting for another set like those to show up for sale.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
its looking great!
what color are you powdercoating the handles and trim? and what are you using to re attach your upper trim rail? |
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
When finished the burb is going to be white so all the handles, trim and mirrors are going to be black. Not going to replace lower trim, going to line-x the rockers. I am going to check out a fastener store in town for the clips. They show some in their catalog. The other option might be the clips for truck tailgate upper trim, it appears narrow and the clips are available from different vendors. Btw, I'm also having the upper door panels trim pieces powder coated black. My goal is to not have any chrome on the burb. The grille will be the tough part but having the headlight buckets coated in black also. Hope to have all parts back next Friday and will post pics.

matte wheels are sweet

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Thanx guys....I want to drop the motor in and start driving but really should clean, paint and detail the engine compartment while the motor is out. If I don't do it now it might never get done. I really like the wheels and best thing is is that they were inexpensive for a 17" 8 lug wheel.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
So the metal/rust project is done and now moved the burb to a different area to start the tear down for cleaning, paint and engine install.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Where did you buy your patch panels for the rear quarters and the area in front of the rear wheel well? Curious about quality and price. Thanks in advance.
|
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Didn't use pre made patch panels for any of it. Panels were made as needed out of metal stock.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Is the relief in the fire wall for valve cover clearance?
Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Yes...the original plan was for a 454 w/roller rockers and tall valve covers. You couldn't remove the short covers on the 454 that I took out of the burb. The box was made and grafted in to clearance the valve covers and more room for the HEI dist. The motor plans have changed to a 396/402 with short covers but the extra room will be nice.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Looks great!!
How many gallons of paint did that take?? |
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
It took almost 3 gallons and that was just color not ncluding primer. It has 3 coats of base coat.
