Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
No trans cooler, I plan to run one similar to this:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DER-13262/?rtype=10 or since I work for a coil company, I can make one similar to this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLX-3818-6/ I have not gotten anything done lately, I took my boys to my folks farm for the last weekend of deer season. While I was there, I picked up some of my old parts that I never got rid of like the seat and original steering wheel. The seat frame is rusted but salvageable and only needs new foam and 2 springs replaced. |
Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Well got a few (very few) things done this past weekend and last night. I got the rusted areas cleaned and treated and applied Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator on them. Painted my master cylinder and mounted it for now on the firewall. I am waiting on a fitting to continue with the front brakes. I would have pictures...but my camera would not turn on even with new batteries. Not sure what is wrong.
I also got some cleaning and painting on the motor done. Started on some of the brake lines for the front, got one side done, but I broke my good flaring tool. I hope I can fix it, can't afford another right now. My goal is to work on the brake lines and finish that this week. I need to get the trans done and then I can put the motor and trans in the frame to get more progress done. Again, sorry no pics, but I will get some when my camera is working again. |

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
[QUOTE=aggie91;3727180]I got my parts in yesterday. The radiator is similar to the ones on Summit and Jegs that others on here have used, but was only $139.99, I also got new valve covers and a timing cover and tab with bolts. The cover on the old motor is cracked and leaking and a plain steel one was the same cost as a chrome one. All of these parts in the photo are from Speedway Motors.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...0/100_1238.jpg Where did the Radiator come from. And is it a stock replacement? |
Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
cant wait to see more on this build keep the pics coming man

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Paul - The radiator came from Speedway Motors. It is part number 917-347-26. It is 26" wide overall and the core is 19" tall. I measured between the inner fenders on the front end and the opening in the core support and this one fit best. I will have to make my own mounts, but that is not an issue. I will also use an external trans cooler.
I did not get anything done last night. I am dead in the water with my flaring tool. I messed up the screw and head, I will call Stride Tool today to see if I can get replacement parts. I did get my camera to work again? Maybe some pictures tonight! |
Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Thanks for the Info Carl. I'm not going to be running the stock inner fenders anyways.

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Here are some pics of stuff I have done while my camera was down:
Motor after cleaning: http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...0/100_1240.jpg After a Fresh Coat of Paint: http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...0/100_1242.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...0/100_1241.jpg Here is the 1 brake line I completed the other night before breaking my flaring tool: http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...0/100_1246.jpg Last night I bent up these. They run from the master cylinder down to the frame rail. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...0/100_1243.jpg Here they are install on the master cylinder: http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...0/100_1244.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...0/100_1245.jpg I need to finish the end where they connect at the frame, but with out a flare tool, I am kind of stuck now...I guess I will move onto other things that I can do to the truck. |
Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Beautiful work!! Looks like you have a lot of experience with hard lines. It's hard for me to make one line that lays just right much less having two that are suppose to mirror each other.

:metal: Great paint and tube fab work! :metal:

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Brake lines are nice. I wish I could bend like that.

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Thanks for the compliments, I am still learning and made a few mistakes before I made those. I hop that I do not mess up the other end when I cut and flare it...
No progress lastnight, I decided to paint the intake since I cannot get it to look good by cleaning it. Started to spray it and the can quit spraying after about 2 passes with a brand new can...I will get another today and try again... |
Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
A few years ago I had my Team G intake bead blasted and it turned out real good. After eight years it still looks good just dusty.

Brake lines look awsome dude.

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Thanks Guys.
My plan is to have the brake lines all ran this week and the system ready to bleed. I need a few line clamps and the boot to the back of the master cylinder. I decided to paint the intake because I did not want to take the motor apart since it was running OK when it was pulled out. |
Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Looks like some good progress :metal: I am going to attempt to bend my own lines as well. Any pointers?

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Nice job on the 'matching' lines.

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
made some progress last night. I got all the hard lines for the brakes finished up. I got my new front calipers and those should get painted tonight.
I ordered up my line clamps this morning, should be here in a few days. Once I get those that should finish up my brakes. I do have one issue that is keeping me from finishing the brakes, I need the rubber boot that goes on the back of the MC around the pushrod. I can get it with a rebuild kit, but I do not need the rest of the parts. The kit is about $25 at Autozone. Does anyone know where I can get just the boot. I am going to email Jeff at CPP since he has been on here and offered up his help... |
Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Good Job on the brake lines

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010
Just got off the Phone with Jeff at CPP. He is a real cool guy. He hooked me up with the dust boot I needed!!:metal: I also ordred the axle perches for the rear end. I think that I am going to change my set up some and I do not like the ones that I made the last time. These will look much better.
ALAN: Sent you a PM. I painted my front calipers last night and the rear rotors. I to get the rear calipers apart today so that I can clean them and paint, before putting in the rebuild kits. |
