Thanks, K5 for the info.

Thanks to you too Cheif,
No we are not runng yet. going through everything under the hood. It's really hard to find parts for the 305 V6 engine. so it's taken alittle longer, but don't want to rush it either.

Got the radiator back last night. The shop said it was the original radiator (Harrison). I thought it was toast, but he hooked me up. :bann:

And we are finally done with hay...:clap: more time for the truck now.

I had a little time while I wait on my radiator hoses to come in, I decided to try my luck at some body work. This truck must have had 10 sets of mirrors in its life time. I started the process of trying to do something about it. I think I did okay...HOLES everywhere.

Wow that is a lot of holes for mirrors.

When I picked my 65 up it had the huge mirror on the drivers side and the little side mirror. I think back in those days people where either mirror happy or really used their trucks for campers, farm work and play.

Made some progress last night on getting the engine compartment finished. I took "Corts60" suggestion on the breather and worked with it. I think it turned out fine, very clean look. Thanks for the suggestion Cort. here are some pictures.

How about you shoot those exhaust manifolds with some hi-heat cast iron paint ? Although, You probably don't want to mess with the bolts...that could open a can of worms...

Hadn't really decided on what to do with them yet. Paint them or add some headers. Still thinking about it..

Man, I love what you did with engine. It looks awesome. Did you weld all of the morror holes up? It looks like you are doing a great job.

4dranch 09-30-2008 02:54 PM

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Yep welded up the larger holes and then broke out the grinder. then a little bondo.
I'm not much of a body man, but it's my work and it feels good doing it. Plus saving some cash on the little things. I was told a long time ago that the difference between a good welder and a bad welder is a good welder always carries a grinder and some spray paint with him..

The best part of working on old stuff is that if it isnt right weld it back on and start over ---------------your paint scheme is looking very classy!!!!!

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Yeah you kinda inspired me to try something different under the hood too. Of course I'm not ready, but man I'm digging that white. Until I dump oil everywhere. hahaha
